I have been using various masking apps for the past decade or so. For simple stuff they were fine. But for complex masking they were a pain in the neck. I am really appreciating the new masking apps utilizing AI, especially Adobe and Topaz. They finally are making the task a lot easier. Mask AI is definitely a welcome tool in my arsenal and only keeps getting better.

Please would you make a video comparing Adobe Photoshop CC select and mask with Topaz mask . On the face of it Adobe is still superior but I wouldn’t mind being wrong on that . Thank you
Nice! But with your 3rd example, it doesn’t look like the bit on the right you manually added blue to actually got fully included (I.e., the top part appears to be masked out).
Anthony, thanks as always for all you do. Question on Topaz Mask Ai ... appears when one goes into Lightroom and Edit In, Mask AI does not appear as an option as the other Topaz products do appear. So Mask Ai must be used only as a stand-alone? If so, is it best to import from LR as a JPG or another format? Should I assume best to use Mask AFTER processing is completed in LR? Seems you have not done a Mask AI post in a while. Thank you and all the best.
Can it make a mask that just results in a "border" between the foreground image and the background, without removing the background? So that for instance, you could de-focus the background or darken or lighten it, instead of replacing it? Basically an automated version of the "Select" tools in Photoshop.

Exactly! There's nothing magical about tagging it with the "AI" moniker. It's just marketing and a way to cut people with the free upgrades for life promise, out of the picture.
I no longer support Topaz products. Here's why. Topaz has CLAIMED that once you purchase a filter, all upgrades for that filter are free for life. BUT THEN they started with their "AI" filters. Now, there is NOTHING in law that defines AI over any other program algorithm. AI is simply a COMPLEX algorithm that mimics learning. It's not like other program algorithms, without the AI tag, have not mimicked learning or didn't have complexity. So... we had, say, Topaz Mask and with each update if one had already owned a previous version of Mask they got the upgrade at no additional charge. Welp... NOW they've added the "AI" on to the Mask name and claim it is a different product and want to charge for it. FUCK THAT! They've improved the algorithm. It is an incremental change that someone in marketing has decided that that change could be CALLED AI and therefore they should screw over everyone who've paid good cash for Mask in the past and now charge for it anew. That's just evil. I won't be giving Topaz any more money! Some other company will benefit.
