Datsyuk was my favorite player to watch, ever. EVERY shift he did things no one else in the league could do. I just watched this video for the first time. Thanks for defending Hawerchuck. Growing up in Winnipeg in the 80s, everybody knew how good he was. If it wasn't for Gretzky... Ducky not being in the 100 is a joke. #1 pick overall in 1981. Holds numerous Jets/Coyotes records, youngest player to hit 100 points before Crosby, helped the Jets to a 24 point difference between dead last in the league in 80-81 to second in the Norris in 81-82. I think the problem is that when you look at the 80s, there were just so many players scoring 100+ points that it was just inevitable that a hand full of really good players were going to miss the list. Hawerchuk looks like the better player than Modano at face value, but in the era Modano played in he was consistently one of the best players in the league which makes it hard to leave him off.

They voted the 76-77 Montreal Canadiens, the team that only lost 8 games all year 3rd. I guarantee there reasoning was well any team that has Gretzky on it must be #1 and the same thing with Mario Lemieux and the Penguins being 2nd. The Canadiens would have wiped the floor up against either of those teams. They would have pounded them into the ice. The Broad Street Bullies would have beaten them senseless also literally.
they missed Hawerchuk, Andreychuk, Iginla, Thornton, Murphy and others. Also for people who are saying Keith deserves it I'm not gonna argue but you are wrong.
Agreeing with other people's confusion about your disagreement with Datsyuk being on the list. For me he is a player that elevated the IQ of people that played with him and even people that watched him. Please elaborate on your reasoning; I'm genuinely curious.
A little late to party here... but do you think the top 100 was era based? It's the only reason I can think of that some of these guys were put on the top 100 list and others where left off... but yea, no doubt, Jarome Iginla should absolutely be on any top 100 list!
The big problem with this list is that there are players from like the 40's and before who no one has ever seen play and then you have real hall of famers (some of those 40's players might be) but like Turk broda or Charlie Conacher played so long ago no one really saw them play. And when I mean no one saw them play I mean no one born after 1947 ish saw them play.
Agree, though make that the early 1930's rather than 1947. The only early ones I remember being mentioned were Howie Morenz and Eddie Shore. I think Clint Benedict deserves serious consideration. Another top player was Cy Denneny of the original Ottawa Senators.
But you have to go by eras. You can't not have Georges Vezina (20s) or Rocket Richard (40s) there. Both have trophies named after them. They are defining players of their eras. Nobody knows how they would compete today, but in any case it isn't important.
Television wasn't even evented at that time so i agree, there are to many players from the 20s 30s and 40s named in this list because they have iconic names or reputation only. They should start from the 50s and up when the game really became a thing with arriving of Richard, Howe and Beliaviou
@@humankirk9196 50s and up. 20s, 30s and 40s are too loooong ago. The game started to become famous in the 50s with Richard, Howe, Geoffrion and Belavieu
I feel like in a decade we will respect our current players a lot more, I feel we will always feel players in the past are better than the current, but I do agree Keith doesn't deserve it
I can only count 17 guys who had their rookie season in 90-91 or later. That's just 17 spots for the past 30 years. Toews, Sundin, Selanne, Pronger, Ovechkin, Niedermayer, Lindros, Lidstrom, Kane, Keith, Hasek, Forsberg, Fedorov, Datsyuk, Crosby, Bure, Brodeur. Something to consider for guys who argue everyone from Alfie to Stamkos need a spot.
Makarov and Larionov do not belong on an NHL top 100 list though. (Hockey) Hof, yes. NHL.. no.. Neither one did enough in the NHL to be in the top 100, especially Makarov.
My top 10 10. Guy Lafleur 9. Jean Beliveau 8. Bobby Hull 7. Alex Ovechkin 6. Sidney Crosby 5. Maurice Richard 4. Wayne Gretzky 3. Mario Lemieux 2. Gordie Howe 1. Bobby Orr
To be perfectly fair, this list should have been divided into 3 or better still, 4 different eras. Why? There are at least 2 valid reasons, including; a) How could anyone equally compare the development of players from let's say the first half of the 20th century to the players of the late 20th to 21st century? b) Players from different eras and for the most part could not be compared in areas such as point production since modern era players had the advantage of much more refined abilities including techniques in all areas of the game of hockey. Therefore, in one of many examples, would defensemen such as Orr, Coffee and Borque have scored the same amount of points if they had played in the 20's through to the 40's given their lack of development in that era? Most probably not.
Mitchell Hedden he’s talking about Shawn Thornton he was drafted in 1997 he played left wing and won a Stanley cup with the bruins in 2011. He’s more known in hockey as an enforcer due to his tendency to fight when games turned to more physical play than skill.
Ok, maybe Murphy and Rechhi, I agree. but no, not Andrychuk or Nolan. Gilmour is a fav of mine and I always thought he was key in Calgery's Cup. Is Joey Mullen on there? He should be. He won 3 cups and was a 500 goal scorer and entered the league late around age 24 or 5. Oh, and Alfredsson n Clark? No way!! Hawerchuk, yes. Iginla, maybe yes too. depends if there is room. Keith? Depends too. Neely? Definitely should be on it.
Where is Lanny Mcdonald or Guy Lapointe. So I guess scoring 500 and having over 1,000 and playing over 1,000 games and winning a cup doesn't count? BTW that is Lanny Mcdonald. As far as Guy Lapointe goes, I guess being part of the greatest defense in the history of the sport and winning 6 or 7 cups and being a HOFer that doesn't count either. That was Guy Lapointe of the 1970s Montreal Canadiens.
Cam Neely V Pavel Bure....Pavel would fly past Camand score fivehole but would allow Cam to score at will because he didn't know what the other side of the redline looked like. Id day toss up but maaaaay have a Florida bias

I think they should have just did best 100 players instead of doing it by era. Like that's why Keith is in over Murphy.
How about Steve Shutt, Lanny McDonald, Steve Larmer?
Mario Javier No Lanny surprised me too!
Nah
Bob Probert is missing. For having the best right hook in hockey history.
He had the best psycho stare too.
Dale Hawerchuk was a -98 during the regular season, and a -21 during the playoffs.
they missed Hawerchuk, Andreychuk, Iginla, Thornton, Murphy and others. Also for people who are saying Keith deserves it I'm not gonna argue but you are wrong.
Naslund and Alfredsson is players that deserves to be here more than some fucking blackhawks player
How Malkin is not on that list is insane. Unreal. Also, agree that Iginla should be there. Nutty.
Doug Gilmore was first omission came to my mind-and maybe Theo Fluery,Pat Vrbeek,Vincent Damphousse, and a few others.
I feel like in a decade we will respect our current players a lot more, I feel we will always feel players in the past are better than the current, but I do agree Keith doesn't deserve it
And I was very upset to see one of the six current players wasn't Iginla, definetly deserves it over Kane and Toews imo
Bailey Iginla over Toews? Yes. Iginla over Kane? Nope.
Mason Gregory Iginla so far in his career has better stats and has a greater legacy than Kane
@@hucz why is Toews even there??? I mean Kane has always been the best player on that organisation
They have Jonothan Toews and Duncan Keith over Jarome Iginla and Zdeno Chara, ya fucking right
66 and 99 are the two best. The cream of the crop
0:35 "Let me finish." I like that.
Hey Shannon, I'm curious where you would fit Scott Neidermeyer in your list of top defensemen of all time?
Games played isn't the only criteria. It plays a part but being greater even if for a shorter time matters as well.
Joe Thornton? Hes about to pass Gordie Howe and Mario Lemieux in assists to join the top 10 of all time.. how could they leave him out?
Makarov and Larionov do not belong on an NHL top 100 list though. (Hockey) Hof, yes. NHL.. no.. Neither one did enough in the NHL to be in the top 100, especially Makarov.
Clint Benedict should be on the list. Better goalie than Vezina, but he didn't die prematurely and get the trophy named after him.
My top 10
10. Guy Lafleur
9. Jean Beliveau
8. Bobby Hull
7. Alex Ovechkin
6. Sidney Crosby
5. Maurice Richard
4. Wayne Gretzky
3. Mario Lemieux
2. Gordie Howe
1. Bobby Orr
Good list, but I think Jagr has to move in to #6 and drop Lafleur out of the top 10.
Two cups later Malkin is the worst omission
If you ADD someone to the list, YOU MUST TAKE SOMEONE OFF. Remember, it's a list of top 100, not 106.
Paul Kariya
No
No Jerome? No Lapoint? No Recci is a Crime.
Patrice Bergeron should be on that list
Phill Housely?
Malkin definitely should have been in over Kane, but I don't think either should have made it tbh.
HappyPants not over Kane but over Keith
HappyPants Kane is AMERICAN
Holy shit. Pavel Datsyuk is the best forward to ever play hockey and you dare to frown on him? The most complete forward there ever was.
What??? Best forwad, who told you that???
Popular doesn't mean the best
2:00 Teeth 😆
He'll be in the Hall one day but yeah, *Murph* gets no respect 🏆🏆🏆🏆
Larry Murphy, Dale Hawerchuk, Jarome Iginla and goddamn CAM NEELY are the most deserving misses.
Deserving to be on the list, but somehow missed, just to make it clear.
Mark Recchi 1500 pts, Andreychuk 1500 pts Phil Housley 1300 pts
Malkin, Thornton, Iginla, Neely should all be there for sure.
How did Gordie Howe....Wayne Gretsky and Bobby Orr make this list ?
Um why is Keith on and Iginla not?
When putting the list together. As far as current players there has to be some foresight and kind of project where they will end up.
When you say "Thornton" you mean Shawn right?
Joe Thornton he played for the bruins for a few years in the early 2000s than got traded he now plays for the sharks
Lol it’s Sean
Mitchell Hedden he’s talking about Shawn Thornton he was drafted in 1997 he played left wing and won a Stanley cup with the bruins in 2011. He’s more known in hockey as an enforcer due to his tendency to fight when games turned to more physical play than skill.
Mike Gartner just scored goals! Lmao
+Timothy Sullivan One of the most proficient goal scorers in history.
@@TheHockeyGuy Perhaps the game's most consistent sniper 🏒
back when Shannon had some SASS
Omg hawerchuk has to be there!
How is Iginla not being on the list so crazy but you debate Datsyuk’s inclusion?
Where's Alexandre Daigle and Rick DiPietro? Or fuckin' Chris Gratton?
I thought one requirement was the players had to be a Stanley Cup winner??? might be wrong.
It matters where you play. It shouldn’t but it does
Cujo?
Keith, toews>iginla, Malkin, Thornton, St. Louis - Ppl who shouldn’t talk about hockey
Elprocesso you don't think Malkin should be on that list? Are you high?
Nathan McDougall the only part that's correct is the Toews part, the rest is absolute retardation tbh
Elprocesso i sincerely hope you're trolling..
you mentioned some really good players not on the list but how many other than Duncan Kieth would remove?
Georges Vezina
Niewendyk?, Iggy?, Gilmour?, Macdonald? I sense some overall hatred by the league for former Flames ... :'(
kosmicwizard niewendyk is on the list.
+Gerry Zaccaria Mullen is not on there. He was overshadowed when he was at his peak.
Gerry Zaccaria I'm a Mullen fan but he's no top 100, not even close imo.
Andreychuk has over 1400 pts,
You should be in there automatically regardless if you had that much points. Phil Housley aswell
Where you get that book? Id love to get one myself

The Hockey Guy sweet thanks Shannon!
Where's bobby luo
Cam Neely V Pavel Bure....Pavel would fly past Camand score fivehole but would allow Cam to score at will because he didn't know what the other side of the redline looked like. Id day toss up but maaaaay have a Florida bias
+Thomas Dispenziere Cam scored 50 goals in 50 games and hit like a Mack truck. If not for Ulf Samuelsson, his career would have gone on longer.
The Hockey Guy
The credit goes to Adam Oates. Remember he turned Hull into a 70 plus goal scorer.
Pavel Bure?
