Man, what a brutal boss fight. So much waiting around, and if you mess up twice you have to start over from the beginning. I would've set a suspend point at phase 2 pretty quickly, so props for that. Next up is a game that Elvis is really looking forward to, which means something bad for SungWon and Steve... and something great for us! 1:11:07 I love this! Thank you Munji, Jasper, and Goma, as well as their wonderful assistants!
It's been a blast seeing you guys play this - glad SungWon has an appreciation for DKC and got the true experience. The crushing defeats, the sweet victories and everything in between. Hope you guys play more Donkey Kong games down the road!
I will never understand why LP'ers do this. Why would they care if we know, we all know they record this stuff months in advance, what does it matter if we know the exact day?
That final bit was the greatest cap on the series possible. With this game being one of my childhood favorites, I'm so glad to see you get to the end! Very understandable feeling on the final boss there - I never beat him as a kid and only did so on the Switch a few years ago. I am very excited to see you guys play 2 eventually! It is challenging but more fun and I love the atmosphere of the game so much.
oh... oh that runtime. Jay was not wrong. "The one thing about boss fights like this is that they're a little long." ohhh and they hadn't even reached halfway yet.
KONGRATULATIONS to Supreme Simian SungWon on your hard-earned and much deserved victory! You've got the power to see a challenge through, the wisdom to tag in Steve when needed, and the courage to put it all out there for our entertainment! Just like Donkey Kong himself, you are truly the whole package. May we all be fortunate enough to one day witness another accomplishment of this magnitude. And while it's been an honor to help guide you and Steve through this monkey business... we all know that it's merely prelude for what comes tomorrow.
Oh gosh, Jay wasn't exaggerating at all about the length! I'm NOT finishing this one on my lunch break, but this and the last episode are definitely three episodes if there's any debate about the wager. That's brutal that they have to repeat that first section. I hate drawn-out final bosses like this. At least give them a checkpoint until they game over.
They should have just let Elvis play, they're both terrible at platformers. Especially Steve. I say that with love. This game is not as hard as it seems here tbh
Well done on getting through this game! And, I had a joke I'd make where "Kongs" are their own species cause they can breathe underwater (cause good god those underwater levels can take a while) but then Tropical Freeze ruined my little in joke by introducing an oxygen meter! Ah, well. C'est la vie and all that.
The problem with boss fights at these lengths is that the grind and improvement is what's satisfying; when you have this many phases, and you have to do all of them every time, you don't GET to grind and improve at the later phases. Every time you fail, you have to restart and grind the earlier phases again.
Regarding Sonic Adventure, they should have done what Metal Gear Rising did: play their music instrumentals during the first phase, then kick in the lyrics for the final phase. Always a good way to amp up a player.
Imagine me, at 8 years old, getting to the end of this game, playing this boss battle 900 times, finally beating it, seeing the credits, setting my GBC down and pumping my fist in the air, looking down and seeing IT WAS ALL A FAKE OUT! I never played this game again, I was sooooo pissed.
\o/ 🎉 They've done it! I remember really struggling on the final fight too, but I think I beat it eventually? It's been a while. Also: eeeeeEEE kitty cat dance cameo!
I remember this last boss fight and never being able to defeat K.Rool with how difficult and tedious it is. Even if it took quite a while, I think you did a good job! Congrats on beating this game, it was a fun ride
Oh man, over an hour? Does this mean it took 4 episodes (based on number of videos) or 5 (based on how long an episode normally is)? I won't get a chance to watch the full thing until later, but I'm looking forward to seeing the winning attempt!
I would love to see DKC2 on this channel!! Sanity permitting of course, lol. I grew up with the GBA ports of these games so watching this playthrough was nostalgia city.
I think it's correct to call DKC2 harder, but I would also say, especially given the casual nature of these lets plays, that DKC2 would be easier for them actually because of Dixie. Dixie is the goat if like me you aren't skilled enough at this game for diddy mechanics.
Steve, Steve! He's our man! If he can't do it... get Elvis.
Yesterday: "This isn't a super sized finale episode? There's just one boss left!"
Today: "....oh"
An hour to beat K Rool is CRAZY

The inconsistent date censoring is my fav running gag from this play through

2:09 ...SungWon, he's sitting _right there._
I hope Sammy Davis Jr. pays a visit now that the boys are completing the game

The song at the end was the best

You know, if I'm going to listen to one theme for a hour, Gangplank Galleon is a pretty great choice.

I do really love the end sequence of looking through all the enemies. Especially to see SungWon's ranking of the enemies
Dr. Funky Dr. Funky
Dr. Funky Dr. Funky
Dr. Funky Dr. Funky
Ohhhhh Dr. Funky
(Dr. Funky Dr. Funky!)
Funky Kong looks like someone at a Nascar rally.
I think rather than jumping right into DKC 2, try the Donkey King Game Boy game next. That was such a great game of platforming and puzzles.
My favorite podcast, FINALE, is back
I remember this last boss fight and never being able to defeat K.Rool with how difficult and tedious it is. Even if it took quite a while, I think you did a good job! Congrats on beating this game, it was a fun ride
DK The Movie

My fav series since ace attorney
Well since this was extra long, I'll take the W on my "5 more episodes" guess
I would love to see DKC2 on this channel!! Sanity permitting of course, lol. I grew up with the GBA ports of these games so watching this playthrough was nostalgia city.
Tekken and fatal fury are awesome 😔
Congrats guys! It was a hoot to watch. The final fight is rouuugh. I would also love to see DKC 2. I've never finished 2 myself

No offense by any means, but imo, don't play DKC2.
The final boss of a lifetime, haha
