Jen thinks she is familiar with Tarzan... I guarantee that is not the case. She probably thinks the Tarzan books were for kids... really, Jen should have read the first two Tarzan novels (all one story) before watching this to know what Disney changed and why a hundred years later, fans are still waiting for a faithful adaptation. Missed opportunity. I do love Minnie Driver's Jane, but of course the real Jane was a blonde from Baltimore. While I'm at it, you guys should have watched the original "King Kong" (1933).

All the films from the Disney renaissance, including Hunchback, Mulan and The Lion King, were given a G rating (and a U rating in the UK, which is basically the same thing). That is to say, personally speaking, I who was born in '99 and grew up with these movies, cannot deny that I did suffer from the impact of several deaths that occurred at Disney but I never hated them, because there was always resilience and/or learning. At that age I didn't understand much about references or words but I flowed more from the feeling and emotion they generated in me, and I learned a lot from those movies that show you a certain reality of life compared to recent ones. On the other hand, I feel that they are films for all of us who carry our inner child, even adults enjoyed these films and continue to do so, Disney created children's films for all children and those who were children, something that I regret losing little by little… It was magnificent

Funny that you reference beauty and the beast. There is a theory that some of the Disney characters are connected. Apparently Jane is the granddaughter or great granddaughter of belle since they have the similar color outfits, the tea cups, and her attraction to beast like men. Tarzan is actually the brother of Elsa and Anna. Their parents left on the ship that sunk and reportedly died but really they escaped and landed in Africa and had baby Tarzan during the voyage. The ship that sunk is the same ship in the little mermaid.

I liked this movie so much as a kid that for boredom relief my cousins would ask me to recite the ENTIRETY of the movie from memory...and I would happily oblige lol this was me and my moms special movie. To this day I can't hear You'll be in my Heart without getting a little choked up.

They did an animated series based after the end of the film. It was your typical saturday morning cartoon series but it was good. More human characters came to the island and started modernising it somewhat, Clayton's sister was introduced trying to get revenge, dinosaurs, giant anaconda, the leopand people and other stuff. It was fun.

My childhood comoletly. Grew up on the classic disney movies and often listen to the soundtracks well into being an adult. Having three kids now myself i passed on these movies to them and they know them all just as much as i do. Tarzan and Hercules were my two favorites and remain still to this day. Hercules should be next

Kerchak is voiced by Lance Henriksen, who's best known for playing the android Bishop in Aliens and Alien 3 (as well as "Bishop 2", who's an actual human but still looks a lot like Bishop).

As is tradition, if you liked the music in Tarzan, you should consider Brother Bear, which has lots of Phil Collins and similar themes on nature, belonging, family, responsibility, balance, empathy for those unlike you, and loss. Just as heart-wrenching at points, though, if not more so.

Also, a metric tonne of things were changed from Burroughs’ story for the film. For example, Sabor the leopard. Originally Sabor was a lion but lions don’t live in rainforests. Leopards do live in rainforests but have also adapted to living in the savanna and grasslands.

This is, together with The Lion King, one Disney's absolute best, imo. They are not just "children's movies", they are so much more than that, hence the reason so many adults adore them, and often have so much more appreciation for them when watching them as adults, than they did when they were watching them as kids. The only thing separating animated movies from live action movies really, is that in animated movies the film makers can let their imagination run absolutely free, no live actors, sets, or real life physics to struggle with. 5:20 Yes, it's supposed to be a leopard, but it's kinda drawn like a cheetah for some reason. And black panthers do exist in Africa, they are just black leopards. Black panthers also exist in South America, but as jaguars. I guess there are black indian leopards as well. Speaking of black Panthers, go visit Luna the Pantera, the sweetest kitty cat there is, and her Rottweiler step sister Venza.

There is a 2nd Tarzan film but it is not a follow up to the 1st even though it take place in the same universe.
There is also an animated TV series which is a follow up to this movie. The show takes place after the events of the movie and explores Tarzan's and Jane's life in the Jungle, along with Jane's father, Turk and Tantor.

I adore Tarzan, it's one of my favorite animated movies ever. I watched it way too many times when I was probably way too old to do so (13/14), but this was when my parents divorced and it was a source of solace...
Love the music, the story, the animation and, one underrated aspect that wasn't mentioned, it was just how romantic it is. Tarzan and Jane as a couple just makes me happy.
And of course I ecstatic when it was chosen as one of the worlds for the first Kingdom Hearts, even if it ended up being one of the most confusing to navigate.

The Directors of the Frozen movies have hinted that when the king and queen left on the ship, the parents didn't die when the ship sank, but instead made it to an island and Tarzan may be the brother of anna and elsa.
Also, it is possible that they were headed to rapunzel and flinn's wedding when the ship sank, as you can spot rapunzel and flinn entering the gate during the first time in forever music scene.

Tarzan first started out as a novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs which was adapted by many liv action movies, starting as early as the silent film era and later into comic books (it was through knowledge of these comics and films, while I haven't read or seen them myself, I came familiar with Tarzan, including the swedish children's television show Trazan Apansson och Banarne, which slightly parodied Tarzan, though the character along with Lee Falk's The Phantom are mentioned within the show). It wasn't until after the mid-90's that Disney did this animated version of Tarzan, which got released in 1999.
