    "I've never been nervous before going on stage. Never. Because to me, it's almost like I can live now. I can be who I want to be."
    I love Ray Davies!

    I think that man is brilliant, but Dave is very gifted too. Death of a Clown is a super number.

    Great interview... Love the setting and the casualness of it. Some really interesting comments from Ray... some great things I've never heard him say before!

    Ok, I'm waiting for Ray to come to my house in Queens and sit on my stoop and kiss me on the cheek and sing Days to me. . . . still waiting. . .

    Thank you for posting this. Bummer that the sound was muted whenever they showed archival footage or album covers, but aside from that it was a pleasure watching this.

    This was adorable. I couldn't get past the lady's hairstyle (combined with jacket) making her look straight out of the 60s, though.

    He is up there in my book with the geniuses: Lennon/McCartney, Elton John, Pete Townshend, and RAY DAVIES.

    She said "kind of a legend." I don't think she meant it as diminishing... I think she was saying it in that off-handed way that you say "kinda" or "pretty much." (Sometimes used when you're being casual, or trying to understate the obvious.)
    By analogy, it's like if I said, "Yeah, Albert Einstein was pretty much a genius" when I clearly mean he's a GENIUS, period.

    Dave came up with the riff on You Really Got Me, not Ray. And I guess that Ray got all the publishing too.

    • @galericulus9736
      @galericulus9736 8 років тому +4

      Not correct. Ray came up with the riff, composed as were all his songs on a piano. Yes Dave played it on guitar, and yes he created that fuzzy sound by taking a stanley knife to his amplifier, but it was Ray who created the riff. It might be true that Dave was the father of heavy music though, for creating that sound for Ray's riff for the first time which so many people later copied.

      Nobody would have listened to the song played the way Ray had intended it to sound! Would have been a lame song, not catching any special attraction. So there wouldn't have been any following songs either. So without Dave's guitar playing no Kinks.

    • @galericulus9736
      @galericulus9736 8 років тому +4

      nogrouchy Yes, it's true that Dave created the distinctive guitar sound that lifted this record into spectacular new territory. I believe I have read that it was Dave's group initially. I don't think he was ever given enough credit for his contribution to Kinks' songs and arrangements either. He has complained about that himself.

    • @garthfarkley
      @garthfarkley 5 років тому +1

      Sounds very collaborative but I must say Ray wrote the hook to be played on electric guitar. He certainly had an idea how it should sound and they perfected it together. For me, first, I credit the composer. And Dave for arrangement.

    • @lucyfoster4082
      @lucyfoster4082 Рік тому +1

      No, Ray wrote the “riff” on the piano some time before while playing around with the idea of Gregorian chant. Dave gets credit for the original sound while playing said riff.
