He is absolutely right. The Kinks were different to any other band around at the time. He's not just "bragging". The influence The Kinks have had on modern music, to this day, are unparalleled. Regardless of 4 other lads from another region.
The Beatles had and have a much bigger influence on modern music than The Kinks, whether you like it, or not, no matter how benignly, cleverly and subtly you try to hide your assertion to the contrary
I heard "Celluloid Hero's" for the 1st time 2 days ago when my KJ Tracy sang it for Karaoke. I'm 64 years old. I couldn't listen to it without tears. I watched a video this morning which thumbs through all the pictures of the stars of old Hollywood. That brought back more tears. The song really captures the success and heartbreak of old Hollywood. In addition, it also leaves you with the feeling that whether you know it or not YOU are in the movies no matter who you are. Thank you Ray Davies and thank you Kinks.
Ray's music was always out of step with its time - fierce when the Beatles were friendly, and reflective later on, when John Lennon made "Revolution" and the Rolling Stones recorded "Street Fighting Man." The Kinks provided some contrast there in 1968: ua-cam.com/video/lc7dmu4G8oc/v-deo.html
Sir Ray Davies is a genius!!!! They do not make bands like the Kinks anymore. That music is still so cool!!!

Um, I think it was Dave that came up with the amp sound Ray, you're just taking credit for it now.
He says "we".
@@harrynac6017 Then he said "I'' after.
@@richalderson6069 that's how "it" got the sound
One of the best songs ever written. Masterpiece.
Poor Dave got stiffiled over the years by big brother Ray, it must be some sorta birth order thing.
