I recognize this rhythm from the Ghanaian music I grew up listening to🇬🇭 As it turns out a lot of West, Central and East African music uses this rhythm, typically sped up. It influenced reggae and dancehall as well. It's fascinating how music connects us 🙏🏾

Yes! And it made its way to north America, too. it's like a musical gene that survived enslavement!

@@diepiriye Indeed-I am working on a longer video that goes deeper into the history and science of the rhythm. It is a fascinating story

Small world. I'm deep diving on clave in pop from bed in Australia, stumble across this video and see a clip of my dance instructors from back home in the US!
Even the Spice Girls got in on the action... Hai Si Ja, Hold tight! Clave is like the golden ratio for our ears 😅

The salsa beat you show is way different.

You can see a guy clapping the rhythm in the background. It’s the 2-3 version of the clave, not the 3-2, but the timing is no different.

it's hoodoo (voodoo) music - "'who do' you love" is an allusion
