One of my greatest life experiences was meeting Bo Diddley in person. It was at a concert in the 1980s. The show had been poorly promoted, and only a few dozen fans came to a theater that held maybe 500 seats. After an opening set by the backing band, Bo came on stage and surveyed the audience, and he looked and sounded pretty upset. However, he did not let that interfere with his performance. "There ain't more than a few of us here," he said, "but tonight we're gonna rock the house like there's 10,000. Because I ain't up here imitating anybody. I AM The Originator." And then he played an absolutely killer show, driving the small crowd into a frenzy. Afterwards, his manager invited the whole audience to come backstage and meet Bo. I shook his hand, we exchanged a few nice words, and he gave me his autograph, which I cherish to this day. He was one of the greatest artists and innovators that the USA has ever produced. No doubt...Bo Diddley put the rock in rock and roll!

We were fortunate to back up Bo Diddley at a club in Columbia South Carolina ‘89. He was a kind man. After a short rehearsal where he came up with a song on the spot, we sat at the bar and he told us stories. The gig was great, he was an amazing performer and a great, powerful singer. He had a backline twin reverb supplied by the venue and he cranked that thing up. I got to trade fours with him. My pic is from that gig.

You can find this riff / beat in so many songs. Willie and the Hand Jive. I Want Candy. Don't Let Him Go (REO Speedwagon). There's a Duran Duran song I can't think of immediately. He took the Blues and turned it into rock and roll. I listen to this perfomance every week to keep me humble. He had talent.
I love Bo Diddly although he came before my time but even after I was born he was still singing
We miss you, but your music lives on! 🕯
I own his signature series guitar manufactured by Gretch.
It’s the only guitar I have, where everyone has to comment on it.
Everyone always exclaims, “wow! It’s a rectangle!”
Still shakes the world
What a legend.
Saw him at the wabasha bride reopening show in 98 or 99 up in st. Paul, along with Thourougood. Great show. Brought this little mouth harp player up on stage that he met backstage. Jammed with the kid for 20 minutes it was great! Met Bo afterwards. One cool cat.
He had a signature style - that's for sure!
