I'm not gonna lie; When I came across this place in the original version on the PS1, it freaked the hell out of me. For starters it's a secluded location in the middle of nowhere, has downright unnerving music, and to top it off there's this voice speaking to you through text. No joke here; When the text showed up, I straight up jumped from fright!
Actually, if you run out of time without reaching Odin, the game would just ask you if you'd want to retry, and if you did, it would escort you out of the ruins and you can just try again. The other option being game over...

I played this a couple times back in early 2000s, I'm playing it aging now and wanted to what u said but I'm finding out so many little easily missable things that once I do anything I go check online if I missed or did something wrong and I usually end up reloading an older save point, this game has so much more depth than FF7(which I've full beat at least 10 times in my life)

Another little thing if you want more limits use aura magic it makes it stupid easy for the command to pop up plus it makes the chance of lionhearted higher
CARD DOES NOT COUNT TOWARD KILLS! I started counting after Kill #22, but it took an additional 10 kills (total 32 kills if you include the few cards in the beginning) before I got Tonberry King out.
You could have made that battle easier by casting Meltdown magic first and then attack. Every enemy is susceptible to Vit-0 including boss characters like Ultima Weapon and Omega Weapon.
Yes I did, but I waited until my Av level was 30 so I could stock the spell “full life.” Now I know the higher your level the higher the enemy’s but very few enemy’s stock “full life” I drew until my party was full escaped transferred all the “full life” spells to my other party members and did it again this time (after maxing full life again) adding The GF to my collection
i hate going for tonberry because those little rascals are so hard to kill. i just kept using diablos. but when you fight tonberry king, diablos is of no help.
About to get Tonberry, but I'm getting Odin first. I'd rather have Gilgamesh than let my PS4 sit overnight for Angelo Search items cause frankly... you'll be overpowered anyway without them.
What do you gotta do to get the king to appear. I did 19 tonberrys, went out and save, came back in and did 20 but the king is a no show. And now i feel like I did like 30 tonberry.
Pretty late to the party, did you guys realize you can increase Diablos damage by giving him abilities incSummon damage% ? It wont kill the enemy but it will give 9999 damage if enemy hp is a lot. Let just say it goes reducing enemies hp from 1/4 to 1/3 or 1/2.
I got tonberry king after 8 kills, is it possible? Kill most of them in 1 squall limit break, no ultimate. Hard to trigger any ultimate when you put silence on squall i guess?
I am sure i fought the king without bothering about the timer in the original version. Also i used quistis desionator for speed killing enemies. So i kept her in yellow hp. But i am not sure whether tomberies are immune to it. Has been 10+ years since i played it last. Desionator + first strike is my best bet for farming morbols as well
Epyonwings No because tonberry skill "everyone's grudge" is based on each characters "kills" multiplied by 20. For example if Squall has killed 50 enemies(you can see on your battle meter at Tutorial), it will deal 1k dmg to him and maybe lower or higher depending on how many kills the other players on your team have.
Epyonwings The question was for tonberry, so I thought you were asking its usefulness on tonberry fights which I replied. On other category, Level up and down is useful on getting Adamantine from adamantiose to get your disc 2 lionheart or just not level on disc q, also at disc 2, you can get all of character ultimate weapons and magic with it also. I got Meteor, Flare, Holy, Full Life, Triple, Double, etc on disc 2 using Lv Up. Ultima on draw points. Just use card at the end so you dont get exp if you plannin on getting Fangs on disc 1.
Even if u thought his question was about using it on tonberry u should've realized that u need tonberry gf to use lvlup and lvldown so it would be impossible to use it in the battle vs tonberry
In a no lvl playthrough the tonberrys should only have like 15k-20k health. With ultima, lionheart, and 60,40, and 20% str junctions, squall should be capped at 255 str, dealing bout 7k damage per hit. In a no lvl run, everyone's grudge should hit for less then 500 damage. Hit him about 3 times and its dead. With the speed boost cheat, auto haste, and max APB speed, I got tonberry king in about 10 minutes. Tonberry king himself is an absolute joke in no lvl runs.

Xavier Felix you only need 1 Phoenix pinion. But if you want more, you need Alexander Med Level Up. Turns Phoenix down to Mega Phoenix, then turn Mega Phoenix to Phoenix Pinion. Theres also the Phoenix Spirit after but that's only GF ability of Revive.

Xavier Felix if you have tonberry and learned Familiar, you can buy Mega-Phoenixes and dont need to make em at Esthar shop. So the only thing you need to do is combine those to get Phoenix pinion using Tool refine. You get Alexander on Edea battle(Draw) Disc 2 I think. For the Med LV Up. So its: Med LV Up - 50 Phoenix down = 1 Mega Phoenix Tool Refine - 3 Mega Phoenix = 1 Phoenix Pinion.
Actually, I've been playing this game and I decided to wait to see what happens after the 20 minutes ends, and we still can access Odin... when the time expires, Odin uses Zentasuken and we get a game over (so technically we need to start after a previous Save Point).

Yeah I always considered Lionheart to be the Final Fantasy 8 version of Omni Slash. I actually used to name Squall Cloudlt because he seemed like attempt to recreate cloud
And Rinoa looks like Tifa and Zell has Tifas fighting style, Irvine is like Vincent, Selphie reminds me of yuffie, Quistis reminds my of Aerith, for all the hate this game got for not being like FF7 it actually was similar, even the music has the same vibe

If u plan to play a lot on disk 4 it is useful because Odin is better than Gilgamesh. U can get both Odin and tonberry early on disk 2 but u will lose Odin at the end of disk 3 ( these are just points in the game) getting tonberry on disk 2 and Odin on disc 4 is probably the better option bc Odin kinda dies in the story at some point if u get him to soon then turns into Gilgamesh
So I'm doing something incredibly dumb. I've started playing ff8 again, and decided to grind the crap out of everything. So far I have a level 100 squall, quetzacuatle, Shiva, if it, siren, and diablos. I have squalls lionheart, selphies strange vision, and zells ergaz. Irvin, Zell, and rinoah are level 70+, plus a few high level magics and I havent even gotten to the first confrontation with the sorceress in galbadia. Am I over doing it?
Possibly? It depends on your play style. Most people will tell you there really isn’t anything wrong with that, only that it’ll make the game a tad more challenging for you since enemies scale with you. I’m currently at the beginning of Disc 3; my first play through and my squall is at 60, Quistis is at 50, Zell is at 45, Irvine is at 25 and Rinoa and Selphie are both under 20. So to answer your question, no you aren’t necessarily “overdoing it” but the games enemies will just pack more of a punch.
Yes, not gonna lie if you're not just in it for the story you've probably ruined that playthrough. Enemies do scale with you, but they generally have a 'hard' upper limit. At those levels and with those weapons you will absolutely steamroller over everything without any challenge until maybe the last 25% of the game.
Not really I had all but Rinoa END disc 1 at lv 100 her at lv 99 and the Lionheart made via stealing 3x Laser Cannons off of LV 30+ Elastiods during the FIRST Lunatic Pandora scene ON disc 1.
Lionheart is way worse than Omni Slash from a simple standpoint of on the slash is just cloud attacking. Lionheart is literally an animation like nights of the round.
@John Smith I've never had to kill anymore or less than 20. I think it makes more sense to program it to come out on the 20th, rather than try to have a rng vaule for toneberry king.
Omg, I just recruited Tonberry. I think my Squall is crept out by the Tonberry or something, he used Lionheart 6 times total throughout the 20 battles against all the Tonberry. This recruitment took me like... 15 mins total. 🥰 Also, this is the first time I use Irvine in my party, and the Everyone's Grudge hits him.... 60 damange. 😅
Ha ha, when Tonberry King showed up for me, Squall did his Lionheart limit break the first time around and killed him instantly. I have 100 Quakes on strength and Squall did mostly 9999 hits. Easy peasy.

In this case, since you have lionheart and ammo-ref, refine chefs knife to AP ammo which I feel is better/faster than renzokuken.

You don't lose Odin if the timer expires. You can just go back in and try again.

Quickest way to kill these is quistis and her degenerator limit...it's an instant kill and takes seconds

Gotcha. Maybe it counts as death status attack. I think Tonberry's are immune to death now that you mention it

I always have death junctioned to my attack one hit kills but getting this gf is tricky I've played this game since 1999 and still never got tonberry
I don't leave balamb until am at least on lv 65 and card farmed for all high magic
