When the Master first came back it wasn't a moment of 'oh heck it's the master!' for me. i was a teen who knew nothing of the original series and didn't even know the master was a character beforehand. So it was more of a 'oh my god! there's another time lord?!?' still an amazing moment for me at the time. I was pretty good at avoiding spoilers back in the day and when Missy revealed herself as the newest regeneration of the master i lost it! Biggest surprise ever for me, my partner won't let me live it down for how over the top i reacted lol. For me she was the best and most surprising master reappearance.
@@VeracityLH Didn't see it coming, but knew right away who it was as she did that dance around the garden that was so reminiscent of Simm's behaviour style, and the name always seemed to be a dead giveaway to me.
Michelle Gomez's Missy was amazing. John Simm was my favorite Master...until the Mistress came along. Now I want her back, though it's hard to imagine her with anyone but Capaldi. A couple of years before Doctor Who, Gomez did a series called Merry Widows with Miriam Margolyes as her mum. They are HYSTERICAL together. She also did a short series called Psychobitches in which she played historical women seeing a psychiatrist. Love how some of the twists reveal parts from previous episodes that you don’t realize are relevant and then you rewatch and are in awe. One of my favorites and probably #11 or #12 is the Doctor Donna season. When the cat lady( sorry I don’t remember every character/species) at the spa greets her as “Doctor Donna”.
9:37 - 9:42 and the second half of Season 2. Look at the front page of the newspaper that Victor Kennedy was holding in the episode *Love and Monsters* Harold Saxon's name was mentioned and the Doctor was technically responsible for The Master being PM, twice. 1. Overthrowing Harriet Jones in *The Christmas Invasion* 2. Rigging the TARDIS to have the Master locked down on Earth (Utopia). Allowing the Master time to plan his master plan (pardon the pun) while he and Rose were trying to stop both the Cybermen and Daleks.
Glad you didn't have a Missy entry (although she's awesome) - I was 100% sure she was a female regeneration of the Master, as soon as her name was mentioned.
Jesus Christ is Lord. Please read at least three books of the Bible. The first book of each testament and one you chose yourself. As you do practice forgiveness. It is important.
I picked Missy as The Master as she was so like John Simm's master in female form. Loved the reveal with the big kiss and grabbing the Doctor's hand to her chest to feel the heartbeats
Strangely enough it was the moment when River whispered his name in his ear.......The Doctor was never as shaken as he was in that moment and David Tennant conveyed the importance of her in that moment that it still gives me the shivers.
Nice video, Here is my response to each point: 1. The 11th Doctor getting killed and cremated at the start of the new season was traumatic. 2. The War Doctor had me screaming in shock. I LITERALLY FELL OFF THE COUCH AS I SCREAMED MOFFAT!!! 3. The Sphere was hilarious when the Cybermen and Dalek got into an argument. 4. The Amy Pond duplicate was a chilling plot twist. 5. The Face of Boe connection was a "WOOOOOW" moment!! 6. The Souflee girl Dalek reveal was very sad. Oswin was awesome. 7. The Bad Wolf connection to Rose was wild . 8. The Professor Yana reveal was exciting. I totally didn't see that coming 9. Everything about River Song was amazing. Lots of Spoilers. 10. The 4 times knock hit me like a ton of bricks. It was heartbreaking as Wilfred ended up being the reason why 10 died.
Is anyone else gonna mention the reveal that the master was the weird guy with Bill the whole time snd to torture the doctor he had her made into one of the first Mondassian cyber men?? That was heartbreaking.
When Rory was the Centurion and uttered the line, "A message from me and a message from the doctor. Where is my wife?.... Would you like me to repeat the question." This was very cleverly done and I knew from then on that their daughter was River Song.

A problem with a lot of these reveals is that Stephen was a big fan of the mystery but not the payoff. He doesn't got so far a J.J. to say that there should never be a payoff but Stephen likes to assume that once we know the truth we don't need to worry about it anymore. Hey, the Daleks can turn dead people into masks and turn live people into living Daleks? That's amazing! maybe do something with that. There are a countless number of Claras throughout the timeline? Neat. Are you going to show some of them every again? No? Then why bother saying it at all?! But he did give us The Silence and they're my favorite baddie so that's nice.
The twist that river was in the space suit was one that I had speculated heavy with based on her own reaction after she unloaded her revolver missed and the space suit escaped and she bitterly said "of course not" however it seems as though even she had forgotten when they re-encounter the astronaut back in 1969 so I dropped the theory despite other subtle clues in the first half of the episode even after she's already forgotten. The twist was even more shocking for me having already dismissed the theory and it came true but damn did I love it. What I didn't like was the way that the episode that reveal came in, (or rather the episode preceding it the wedding of the river having to doctor who the story up to eleven with the whole time is broken subplot when all of time is happening at once. Frankly I don't like how that looks on paper it's worse than Aragorn being crowned king only to slap Elront in the face pulling out a boom box radio from the 1980 and playing I can walk on water I can fly as he gets the whole crowd doing the chicken dance and then says Peter Jackson put me up to this as he gets in a bmw and guns it straight off the same cliff that Denethor II flew off of during the battle for Minas Tirith. Needless to say shit like that is too stupid to think up but the way that the wedding of the river was like that ending all the while telling the story of the correct ending. Basically it's a noncohesive story about the eleventh doctor telling a cohesive story to his friend Winston Churchill. And it would have been better for the writers of the episode to tell that cohesive story to the audience instead we got all of space and time happening in one place all at once.

David Tennant regenerating at the end of the second last episode of series 4 was jaw dropping as we all knew tennant was leaving the role at that point….that cliff hanger actually made BBC new when the episode aired! Each one you counted down was a great reminder of those fantastic story lines. I also adored River Song’s character but must admit that Wilfred’s 4 knocks was the most unexpected and shocking scene. I remember just sitting with my hand over my mouth thinking ‘Nooo’! His character was adorable and I loved the relationship he and the Doctor had. When Wilfred saluted the Doctor my tears poured, almost as much as when Rose was pulled into a parallel universe 😢 Another huge shocker was the revelation of the identity of the Face of Boe! Oh how I miss those storylines.
Another plot twist is Clara. Just the whole character. We first get introduced to her as soufflé girl who is actually a Dalek and dies saving the doctor, then she just shows up a few episodes later, alive, human and living in the 1800s. But then at the end of the Christmas special she dies yet again. And then at the end of the episode it shows her once again alive.
I’m showing Doctor Who to my friend for the first time and I’m so excited to see her reactions to the Face of Boe, River Song and especially YANA. I still remember how wild that last one was to watch live. Her reaction to the Bad Wolf was already incredible, it’s so great to get to see the show for the first time through someone else’s eyes!
“The Impossible Astronaut” was the first episode I properly watched live so when 11 was shot and pronounced dead my initial thoughts were “WTF????????!?!?!??!?!” 😳😅😂 Also with it being my first season and Matt Smith being my first doctor, both are my favourites 😁
What I find intresting was this clip didn't even show the cliff hanger on how he got out of it his death when she shot him or she didn't and caused a paradox (spoilers maybe?)
As much as I agree with that topn I"m confused one of the biggest reveal isn't here : The Doctor isn't a Timelord. Which made a lot of sense because Ten refused to change after his full regeneration. Then we learn the existence of the War Doctor which means Eleven is supposed to be his last incarnation. This is why he was about to die in The Time of the Doctor, because he actually was the thirteenth incarnation of the Doctor but his thirteenth Regeneration was triggered by Galifrey, giving birth to Twelve. But the it didn't make sense when Twelve regenerated, until we learn that HUMONGOUS trurh. And I'm even more confused no one mention it in the comments o_O
Think you missed the Amy living in a universe of her own thoughts (all of season 5) was great too. From matts very first episode you get a sense that he's a super genius and instantly notices something is wrong when he asks what's that? How do you know its a duck pond if there aren't any ducks. Then when the universe is reset the pond has ducks.... I mean the ducks aren't the twist but that whole plot line

Honestly I feel the "I don't want to go." line has deeper meaning. Mind you before Matt Smith was the eleventh doctor, we find out the 11th doctor would of been the last life he had before he died for real and I felt that the 10th doctor was scares then because that would of been his last time of dodging death before the new regen cycle was made.

The "Amy Pond is a Ganger" twist was extra fun if you were familiar with the semi-canon stuff from some of the books where it was revealed that a former companion whose biology was similar to that of a Ganger was turned into a TARDIS (and used during one version of the Time War/the Second Great War in Heaven for an icky breeding program to create more sentient TARDISes.). Apparently, being any kind of life form with pluripotent cells, like an embryo or a creation of the Remembrance Tanks, leads to hinky shit on a TARDiS.
We're not going to mention David Tennant regenerating after seeing Rose again and the episode ending before he could change? Everyone freaked out because a new Doctor hadn't been revealed in real life - we had to wait seven days before he just blasted the energy into his cut off hand.
Nicely put together explanation 👍 Billie turned out to be an amazing companion especially the destroying the Daleks. Having said that, doctors 9, 10 , 11 and 12 were the best for me, fantastic deep provoking stories and characters, plus the best actors.
I had a firm suspicion who the impossible astronaut was at the beginning of the opening episode and I was convinced she and the little girl at the end of the second episode were Rory and Amy's then unnamed daughter and by the time I first heard the phrase "the only water in the forest is the river" I simply knew River Song and (the then still unnamed) Melody Pond were the same person. Something that was confirmed for me when that phrase was repeated in A Good Man Goes To War. And even though the reveal was no longer really a surprise to me, it was still epic. It remains one of my favorite moments in the series.

God..... It's Wilfred. The whole time, Wilfred and his 4 knocks were waiting for the Doctor." Then the Doctor says the same thing. And when I rewatch it, my gut tenses when Wilf goes into the booth...and it doesn't un-tense until I start crying. Nobody but nobody writes tearjerkers as well as RTD. Can't wait to see what is up his sleeve next.
River is my girl. I wanna be River when I grow up. (I'm 54, but maybe one day...) My only disappointment is that I knew that there was a connection the moment Amy Pond was introduced. Doesn't detract from how much I love River though.
LOVE Missy. No way to see that one coming, even after the reveal that the Corsair had switched genders.
Her Mary Queen of Scots had a brogue so thick she needed an interpreter--pretty funny since the famous queen grew up speaking French!
You can find both shows on UA-cam and they are worth a watch. Cheers.
@@peterward2275 And now we have Sacha Dhawan's insane dance in the last of Jodie's episodes. One episode was called "The Doctor Dances", but the Master dances, too, and is just as sexy as Eccleston.
The Wilf scene still got me wailing like a baby such a great man with such pure intentions. 10th doctor was above all one of my favourites for that reason.

When Jack said he used to be called the face of Bo I was starstruck
These are all great but what about Bill becoming a Cyberman? I cried my eyes put. That broke my heart.

As someone who watches a lot of tv and film, The face of boe will always be the biggest plot twist I never saw coming
yep same here
Love how some of the twists reveal parts from previous episodes that you don’t realize are relevant and then you rewatch and are in awe.
1. Overthrowing Harriet Jones in *The Christmas Invasion*
Nice video, Here is my response to each point:
I totally didn't see that coming
9. Everything about River Song was amazing. Lots of Spoilers.
10. The 4 times knock hit me like a ton of bricks. It was heartbreaking as Wilfred ended up being the reason why 10 died.
3. "This is not war. This is pest control."
Is there a Doctor Who fan who didn't giggle at that? 😀
@@VeracityLH I still laugh at that line
Is anyone else gonna mention the reveal that the master was the weird guy with Bill the whole time snd to torture the doctor he had her made into one of the first Mondassian cyber men?? That was heartbreaking.
@@VeracityLH the next line's better, when the dalek manages to say "four" in a tone dripping with contempt.
When Rory was the Centurion and uttered the line, "A message from me and a message from the doctor. Where is my wife?.... Would you like me to repeat the question." This was very cleverly done and I knew from then on that their daughter was River Song.
I didn't get that until just now. Thanks.
@@JulieAiken You are welcome!
Wait, I don't get how this hints of the River connection.
the delivery of that line was so good too

RIP Bernard Cribbens. Your portrayal of Wilfred Mott was beyond brilliant.
He was also in the 1966 film Dalek Invasion of Earth 2150 AD.
Heartbreaking news. May the earth be soft on him.
Missy being the master has to be one of my favourite plot twists in the NewWho if I’ll be honest never seen it coming 😱 although if she was The Rani the plot twist would’ve been slightly better 👌🏻
They really need to make a episode showing how Clara became a Dalek, as well as one for Jack becoming the Face of Bode, and the fate of the Doctor's daughter.
Clara becoming a dalek can be explained by her jumping in the doctor's timestream.
@@Mysticpaw that's a good possibility.
I'm still waiting for the doctors daughter to appear though I doubt it will ever happen. But with the new revelation I suppose it is a possibility.
@@nickt463 The best part of the doctors daughter is that she is the doctors daughter and mother of the doctors daughters lol

Rest in peace, Bernard Cribbins. Brilliant actor as Donna's granddad Wilfred.
May his memory be a blessing. 😞❤️
I know him from CBeebies

The War Doctor was the reveal that stopped me in my tracks. I just sat there staring at the screen with my mouth open. I had to rewind and watch it again a few times to fully digest what had just happened.
Excellent first choice. I was wondering what you were going for, and I didn't expect that, but I don't think anyone can disagree !
The twist at the end of utopia is still my favorite. I wish I could relive watching it for the first time
yeah that was fantastic back in 2007, I was in total shock
I'd love to either a Big Finish audio or a novel that explores "What if The Tenth Doctor didn't save Wilf?" Could be an interesting one-off.
I believe IDW comics do a story about that, although we see several other alternate timeline decisions too, @Sam Loves Horror Movies , in the same story.
Four Doctors comic explores that, not entirely focused on it but it does come up
That time Ten was shot by a Dalek and the episode ended with us not knowing what was going to happen. Then the whole meta-crisis doctor
David Tennant regenerating at the end of the second last episode of series 4 was jaw dropping as we all knew tennant was leaving the role at that point….that cliff hanger actually made BBC new when the episode aired! Bill Potts being converted and Rose appearing at the end of the first episode of series 4 should also get a mention!
Jesus Christ is Lord. Please read at least three books of the Bible. The first book of each testament and one you chose yourself. As you do practice forgiveness. It is important.
If it wasn't for the stupid BBC, John simm's return in season 10 would have deserved a spot here. Cos that would have been absolutely mind blowing
Jack being the Face of Boe was a big fan theory before it was revealed.
When Wilfred saluted the Doctor my tears poured, almost as much as when Rose was pulled into a parallel universe 😢
Another huge shocker was the revelation of the identity of the Face of Boe!
Oh how I miss those storylines.
Wilfred knocking is the best twist among all of these. Best one to save for last, though professor Yana being the Master is one of my favorite twists.
Vote Saxon. *Knocks four times* This twist was beyond amazing.
I loved the Name of The Doctor where River's and the Doctor's secret got revealed.
“The Impossible Astronaut” was the first episode I properly watched live so when 11 was shot and pronounced dead my initial thoughts were “WTF????????!?!?!??!?!” 😳😅😂
Also with it being my first season and Matt Smith being my first doctor, both are my favourites 😁
What I find intresting was this clip didn't even show the cliff hanger on how he got out of it his death when she shot him or she didn't and caused a paradox (spoilers maybe?)
Professor River Song is the OG Doctor storyline.
The War Doctor is number 9? Oh, I see what you did there 😉
As much as I agree with that topn I"m confused one of the biggest reveal isn't here : The Doctor isn't a Timelord.
Well technically they are a time lord. What they aren't is gallifreyan.

Wilfred will be so missed. 😢 He was one of my most fave characters.
I know Jack said he was nicknamed the Face of Boe.
I always thought that it was just That. A nickname because he had lived for some time.
Always saw Boe as an Olmec head. And the Olmec were Actually aliens who had been petrified due to the atmosphere on Earth at the time, where they originated, or due to the ailments being passed around due to all the traveling by others. (granted it doesn't explain how Boe knew the Doctor and called him old Friend.)
He didn't ask any basic questions at little kids or say "tomb of the silver monkey" once, though.

Wow here there was many surprises! Cool video!
Capt Jack and the Face of BO wasn't a secret for long, many clues where given out in Dr Who and Torchwood. That secret was out before 2010.
Doctor who needs more River Song.
I've just rewatched the Doctor Who Confidential for Christmas 2009 part 2 (Allons-Y), when David Tennant does four takes of 'I don't want to go' with different degrees of emotion. Brilliant stuff (and I agree with the director's and Tennant's choice of take, for what that's worth).

Agreed!!
Wilf's four knocks made me cry. The Doctor's "I don't want to go" made me cry even harder. I still get teary eyed from thinking about it.
3:45 - I read that as "Amy Pond is a GINGER" at first, and I was like, "Um... That was a surprise?" 🤣🤣
What was everyone’s theories at the time about the 4 knocks before the acc reveal? Thinking back I think I thought it was another doctor who would knock
At the time, I was one of the ones who fell for the Master being the knocker.
Another Doctor? Like a callback to the Valeyard?
"Please try to keep up. Short for Mistress. Well, I couldn't very well keep calling myself The Master now, could I?"
I shot up and screamed at that reveal.
