You guys have a lot of experience on a number of African Campaign games. Would love to see a comparison of what you like/dislike on each.
Really like this “fresh-from-the-heat-of-battle-at-the-table” perspective from you guys. Also saw that this game made your Favorite’s of 2023 List. Always a lot going on in a Mark Simonitch game, as you point out many times. Yes, please do more of these style videos! thumbs up
Enjoyable, as always! Appreciate you guys doing these after battle reviews! I’ve got this beast, and it’s a blast! I’ll admit I had to reset several times (solo play) when I realized I’d stumbled and messed up on rules. Based on your discussions, I think I need to revisit the truck warp process! A quick note - the map does include road markers. If you’re flying down the road at 4 hexes a step, you’ll note tiny numbers to make that transport simpler! P.S. GMT just P500’d North Africa 40 - an expansion to this one! Delicious!
Great video. Appreciate the insights. Thx guys! Neil
I'm late on this one.
These raw vids are great because getting your thoughts on the fly.
Would enjoy more of these.
Great video! Got my copy on the table, getting familiar with the rules etc and so far I totally agree with your remarks. I am so glad that your previous review was the tipping point for me getting this game. Keep up the good job!
Great video as always, hope you had a nice holiday with your family.
I love your videos and reviews, guys. I love Mark Simonitch's '4X games (of which this is clearly one, despite its differences with others in the series). But I was totally lost playing this one - maybe because it was my first-ever North Africa game and I am unfamiliar with the campagin compared to other WW2 campaigns. Also, it was the first time I've played a game for the first time on Vassal and not set it up on the table first. I was out of it in a few turns in two straight games - and I played both sides! Still, this will be another classic in this fine series.
Lol, yeah, this is a pretty detailed NA game to begin with. Maybe check out something like The African Campaign (we did a video on it), or SCS Afrika II. those will give you a good feel for the flow of the campaign, and then you jump into this one where you have to replicate that with the more complex supply engine.
I really like the Simonitch rule set and I’ve learned my jam is tactical style operational games. France 40 and Holland 44 are both great. I likedAfrica 41 until Tobruk ground the game to a halt. Thx for the vid.
Great Theatre plus it has Australian Divisions !
Operation Theseus is super!
This map is sitting on one side of my table and on other side OSG La Patrie en Danger - Briene map. A bit imitated. By both. Need to start setting up counters.
I am a big North Africa guy but for some reason I found this game a struggle. I didn't try very hard, to be fair. I still have it and will give it another go at some point. It's clearly not a hugely difficult game. It's a me thing.
I'm struggling with the very detailed supply system. It's like 2 games in 1. I'm really not a fan of book keeping to that degree. I guess I was hoping for some abstract in supply like in most games of the Afrika Korps but not here.
Rommel in the Desert when, boys?
This is a cool conversation but a bit scary. The game seems to have some quite complicated/detailed rules. I wonder if it's worth a buy, or if we can try to simplify some crazy rules. Thoughts?
Perfect🤗 🏆🙂🙏🏼
Like in POG, your hoping for your opponent will take the pressure off and play RPs so you can.😉
Hi. Do you recommend this game for solo playing?... How good is it as a solitaire game?.... Any thoughts? Many thanks for your videos! Lots of great ideas and information.
You could do this solitaire without issue (no hidden information etc), just make the best possible moves, and maybe roll a yes/no dice for any crazy gamble you think up.
@@ThePlayersAid Thanks for your note. Yes, a poll on BGG says it can be solo but I wanted to check with you. Just ordered it on Amazon. Do you post associate sales links, so you can get some credit? ;-)
With the supply/logistics layer, would you say it almost plays like an OCS-lite?
Yes. It sits between something like a regular '4X game, and OCS. It's not quite as granular as OCS, but it's much more involved than most games of counting hexes back to a map edge.
Good post, unit diversity? ✍️
No theatre like the North African theatre! I love all the logistical considerations, and how fragile the supply lines are. Such a unique factor!
