Oh wow. I was thinking I was going to have to purchase an updated shower door and now, oh WOW...Ill just do this. You saved me lots of money 💰. Thank You so much!!!
I am having a hard time wanting to replace the entire doors for Frameless - cost is just too much. I don't like the chrome frame I have. Might try this and see
I didn't know you could paint metal shower doors! I need to do this immediately. By the way, you have gorgeous hair 👍 Thank you so much for this rescue!
Woooow, thank you so much😊I also thought I had to purchase new doors . I actually was going to hire a handyman service to change the gold to silver. I'm going to the Home Depot tomorrow. Thank you so very much😊I'm looking forward to more of your projects😊😊😊😊😊
I also have this ugly gold door. We are getting ready to have shower glazed. Did you do the inside of door and the track? If so how is it holding up or how often did you have to do touch ups?
I chose to only paint the outside of my shower doors and leave the inside of the doors gold. You certainly could paint the interior of the doors as well just follow the instructions to use the right type of paint. No dumb questions ever. :)
Just wondering: We have exactly the same color gold frame around our shower stall as well. No need to lightly sand with 220 grit or anything for primer to adhere? Hope not! Thanks!
What about the door casing, the part that is obscured by the door and the inside casing? I assume that’s a subsequent paint job, not present in your video.
Yep, once the outside dries you can do the inside the exact same way. Though I have to admit I didn't bother to do the inside casing of our door. It isn't visible to anyone unless they are actually taking a shower anyway. I know that would drive some people crazy but it doesn't bother me.
If you have paint that has lifted, you definitely want to sand it. Once you sand, you can follow the same steps for painting shown here and in the written post. www.lovelyetc.com/painting-shower-door-frame/
Yes, it is just equal parts blue day and white vinegar! You can also add a little water to dilute it because it can be a bit smelly. I use it to clean basically everything in my bathroom and it works great.
Kinda think you could rub some steel wool all over it to help with adhesion. Was also wondering what chemical would change the gold to black. Maybe something like the bluing repair for guns.
I left the inside unpainted since nobody else will see it, but you could definitely paint it the same way. It's been a little over a year since I painted the outside and so far it has held up great with no peeling!
It has been about a year since I first painted this and it has held up really well - no chips so far. I do not expect it to last forever - eventually all paint chips and has flaws but I'm hoping it will still look good for a few more years.
My lungs hurt just watching this. You should really consider wearing a respirator if you're painting, especially in an enclosed area with aerosol paint.
@pandasunny8031 2 minutes ago I spray painted a light fixture over my bathroom sink recently. I put up newspaper about 2 feet wide all around the light fixture to catch the paint spray. After I finished, I noticed that the black spray paint had got on everything in my bathroom. The paint was on my toilet, the floor, the bathtub, etc. I used solvent to wipe up the spray. I will NEVER EVER spray paint anything indoors ever again. Anything I want spray painted, I will take it outdoors and spray it there
I enjoyed the video but I don't think you should be spraying in an enclosed area without facial protection. It is dangerous to breathe the fumes from spray paint cans. 3M makes some nice ones that are fairly convenient to use.
Just wondering why you didn't remove the whole shower door frame and door and do it outside? Seems it would have been just as easy if not easier. My shower has this same 90s gold vomit, but the whole thing is only held in by 4 screws. Take it outside, paint. Save the trouble of masking everything but the glass. No need to worry about paint dust and over-spray.
That is a great suggestion and really might be just as easy. My door is attached with screws but also a lot of caulking around the frame and I just didn't want to mess with removing it all.
You did such a great job covering the surrounding area! But I just feel this method of using toxins in a confined space warrants mentioning - a mask and proper ventilation is so critical to the process.
No, the paint shouldn't chip from water. Over time, the water and repeated touching may make the paint wear out more quickly. But as long as you prep it properly (clean and prime), I'm anticipating this paint job looking good for a few years. I will be sure to post a follow up of how it lasts.

Glad I could help!

I really enjoyed this video! I’ve been looking for a way to overhaul my dated bathroom and this is gonna do the trick. Thank you!
Yay, I'm glad it was helpful!

Thank you so much!
Did you do the inside also ?
Woooow, thank you so much😊I also thought I had to purchase new doors . I actually was going to hire a handyman service to change the gold to silver. I'm going to the Home Depot tomorrow. Thank you so very much😊I'm looking forward to more of your projects😊😊😊😊😊
Glad I could help! Let me know how your project turns out!
It turns out really good 😎
thank you!
What a great idea! New to the channel and loving it
Thanks and welcome!
Updated - how is it holding up? I love the black with the cabinet color.
It has been close to a year and is holding up great so far!
@@LovelyEtc how about today?
What do you clean this with? Very concerned about the durability and the potential for scratching this heavily used area!
I also have this ugly gold door. We are getting ready to have shower glazed. Did you do the inside of door and the track? If so how is it holding up or how often did you have to do touch ups?
YOU CAN USE A HOT HAIR DRYER TO REMOVE THE TAPE 100% THE GLE GET SOFT IT WORKS
Thanks for the tip!
How well did this hold up?? Want to try but curious how it lasted.
It held up really well It is a budget-friendly option. We used the bathroom daily before moving and had no issues.
Thanks for the vid, great result!
Thank you for this. I appreciate it.
You're very welcome!
Great idea. I'm gonna do this
How did you deal with the inside and the hinge?
Hi. I didn't paint the inside of the frame, only the outside.
Did you do the inside? I wanted to do this but didn’t know how water would affect the paint in inside? Idk maybe dumb question
I chose to only paint the outside of my shower doors and leave the inside of the doors gold. You certainly could paint the interior of the doors as well just follow the instructions to use the right type of paint. No dumb questions ever. :)
Amazing!
Thanks!
how has this held up???
Currently doing this project in my master bath 🤞🏻😂 no going back now! Lol
You've got this!
Just wondering: We have exactly the same color gold frame around our shower stall as well. No need to lightly sand with 220 grit or anything for primer to adhere? Hope not! Thanks!
No, I didn't sand first, just cleaned REALLY well and then used primer and paint. The paint has held up well and doesn't scratch off.
@@LovelyEtc Awesome! Thank you! Great video. We are doing this tonight and tomorrow with the cleaner mix you recommended and the paints as well!
Nice job! my suggestion is if you loose a few screws and remove the glass is gonna be much nicer.
@Lovely Etc. How does the door look now? Is it peeling?
It has been over a year and no peeling or chipping so far!
No sanding? I think sanding the metal would have been better for long term but it looks great. Thabks for the video
You can definitely sand if you feel it is necessary. The paint adhered very well, but sanding is an option. Glad you liked the video.
How is the paint holding up now? Could you post some update pictures?
looks great
thanks!

Mines are already painted dark brown, and I want gold paint. and I think I need to sand it down because the paint is lifted . What is the process ?
If you have paint that has lifted, you definitely want to sand it. Once you sand, you can follow the same steps for painting shown here and in the written post. www.lovelyetc.com/painting-shower-door-frame/
Did you paint the inside of the shower as well?
Wondering the same thing
Love this! Can I ask how it’s holding up 3 months later? Any chipping/bubbling ?
So far so good! No chipping, bubbling, or wear yet!
@@LovelyEtc Thank you!
Can you direct me to your recipe for the dawn/vinegar cleaner? Thanks
Hmmm...I'm not sure about that, this was a simple way for me to update our shower door.
How has/did this held/hold up?
It held up very well. We have since sold the home but used that shower bathroom daily. It's an inexpensive fix and paint can be updated as needed.
How is it holding up a year later? I'm waiting to do this to my shower doors!
Cool
Has the paint lasted over time?
Yes, it has been about a year since I painted this and so far it has held up great!
How has the shower door pain job held up?
It has held up really well. No issues! :)
@@LovelyEtc Thanks for the reply
Is it still holding up well yes or no? I know it’s been a few years. Please let me know thanks
Yes! Absolutely. Very happy with how it held up.
what about the inside? ? And how resistant is it to water? Does it real off?
I left the inside unpainted since nobody else will see it, but you could definitely paint it the same way. It's been a little over a year since I painted the outside and so far it has held up great with no peeling!
just wondering how long this lasts-- is paint chipping a concern?
It has been about a year since I first painted this and it has held up really well - no chips so far. I do not expect it to last forever - eventually all paint chips and has flaws but I'm hoping it will still look good for a few more years.
What about the inside did you leave it ?
Yes, I did not paint the inside of the shower, just the outside.
My lungs hurt just watching this. You should really consider wearing a respirator if you're painting, especially in an enclosed area with aerosol paint.
Yes, you are so right! I do better now and don't spray paint without a repirator.

Oh no! That is awful. It's always best to paint outside. In this case we didn't have much of a choice. But we spent extra time covering everything.

Lol straight from 1990 🤣 ...I understand!
You know it!!
You did such a great job covering the surrounding area!
But I just feel this method of using toxins in a confined space warrants mentioning - a mask and proper ventilation is so critical to the process.
Do you not paint the inside of the shower?
what about the other side?
I chose not to do the interior of the door, however, you can follow the same tutorial for the inside.
Soo many videos of spray paint in a closed in space makes me thinking of another way😅
Sometimes spray paint is the fastest option, but definitely want to ensure you take precautions with an open window or fan.
@LovelyEtc i love the ease though!! Ty
What about the inside?
Does the paint chip if water gets on it
No, the paint shouldn't chip from water. Over time, the water and repeated touching may make the paint wear out more quickly. But as long as you prep it properly (clean and prime), I'm anticipating this paint job looking good for a few years. I will be sure to post a follow up of how it lasts.

@@LovelyEtc Thank you!
Yeah I was wondering if that’s the proper paint also, I don’t want to mess with it for more than just a few years! Enamel maybe 🤔
love your vidios but please turn up your speaker as it is very difficult to hear you.
Will do!
Use a mask...
Yes, thanks for the reminder! Definitely got ahead of myself.
