Florida State needed to lie and announce that despite the gruesome injury, QB Jordan Travis has had a miraculous recovery and will be playing in the bowl. That would be a bad precedent, and dishonest, but it would have gotten them into the Final 4. And that is a pretty bad statement about the committee that picked the teams.
It wouldn’t have mattered. FSU didn’t get dropped because Travis was injured. FSU got dropped because they needed an SEC team in the playoffs.
no one would believe that bullshit lol
Tape don’t lie, we all saw his ankle.
They still wouldn't put FSU in the top 4. They were talking weeks before that they wanted both georgia and alabama in and leave FSU out. They accomplished their goal but with Texas instead. Two sec teams in the last 4 team game.
Well said I agree
so early games don't matter unless its Texas Vs Alabama?
No, not even that matters because Alabama and Texas both made it
Exactly
Good call. Brockman was pooh-poohing the results of early-season games, except suddenly he was okay with Texas getting the #3 slot because of their early-season W over Bama. They f***ed over FSU just so they could see the game THEY wanted to see. These are people not to be trusted.
Not even. So many "well this is a different Bama, that game was a long time ago" takes started flying Saturday night.
and get ready bama and texas will play for natty. so they ARE the two best teams
Terrible and highly suspicious decision by the scummitee. To add insult to injury, ESPN acted like a crisis management marketing team for the scummitee.
Its a disgrace
Not really. Alabama beat #1 Georgia. If it's about the "best four teams," the committee got it right. If it's instead about "the four teams that will best satisfy UA-cam commenters," maybe then they should have gone with FSU.
College football has the worst post-season of any sport. It's a post-season based on opinions.
This is no longer a playoff. No other sport does this. Coming from a Texas fan, this has abolished all integrity the sport pretended to have. Im fine with it being this way, it is what it is, but we have to actually stop pretending this means as much. It just doesnt. Its become an invitational tournament or a showcase.
Exactly! the winner is the College Football Invitational Champion, or the College Football Beauty Champion.
it has never been a "playoff" it's always been an invitational. College football has always been this way. They used to vote for who won the "championship" at the end of the year. This isn't anything new. FSU didn't look better than Bama or Texas at the end of the year so they got picked over. Life goes on. I'm tired of the tears. No one cries when undefeated G5 teams are passed over. If you look at FSU's SOS it's barely above a G5 anyway.
@@AlphaDwg I know, I'm just saying we can finally stop pretending that it means anything. The veil has been lifted and we are closer to pre-determined outcomes than ever before. The dynasty of Alabama, 2 straight from Georgia...now? Who cares, they won a fun tournament, but it should no longer speak to greatness of a franchise.
@chameleon6576 Im not saying i dont understand this. Im saying this has been the most egregious one yet and has finally disenfranchised many fans and probably players to the importance of this tournament. I should be elated Texas finally made it, but now, i could really care less and just hope the players stay healthy.
@@BGH-lw4msyou still have to win the games in the invitational which is hard to do
ESPN now owns the SEC network. They weren't going to let Bama and Georgia play again in an orange bowl while looking at non-SEC teams competing for the ESPN National Championship.
Make the committee explain why Texas jumped all those spots in the poll? The real conversation is why the committee ranked Texas and Bama at 7 & 8, respectively and ranked Oregon at 5? The rankings were bad and Bruce is right they boxed themselves in
They treated Texas beating ok state like they beat georgia also with there leap from 7 to 3.
They had to in order to get BAMA in. The show got it wrong Texas didn't need BAMA, it is the other way around. You can't justify BAMA w/out Texas. If UGA wins Texas I'd in the 4 spot.
@@blakeroberti5982 oh I feel you Florida st was never getting in this after our QB went down. I just don't get the they had close games bs when Alabama had them at full strength vs Auburn. They were already gonna break one of there precedence they had. Which one were they gonna favor head to head or unbeaten conference champ. They wanted the best possible matchups for ratings.
Alabama and Texas had the two highest strength of schedule over the six top teams while FSU was by far the worse not even .500 at 77-79
@@stevenwilcox3985 Both were 3 and 4 spots back of Florida st the week before. Bama damn lost to Auburn but Florida st is only highlighted for there close games. They wanted matchups for ratings nothing else was a factor.
They sold out the sport for money and everybody knows it. People who have voices should be calling it out. Its shameful and harmful for the good of the sport.
When the subjective "eye test" is more important than who wins the actual games then it isnt a sport anymore its a beauty pagent
You mean like Fla St did to join ACC
it;s become a popularity contest
Right. Michigan only put up 26 pts against Iowa. They made a lot of excuses for Bama when they struggled against USF.
@@jamesmartin4679No FSU defense won the ACC conference title. They held Louisville to only 2 field goals. Sec is bully conference and keeps getting what they want. The games don't matter just that sec is in. The cfp is rigged and not as important anymore to win.
How? How did the committee sell out for money? A committee that’s chaired by an ACC administrator.
Those CFP committee members should be ashamed of themselves and fear traveling to or through Tallahassee for the rest of their lives
BREAKING NEWS on CFP decision:
IMO, Noles are the victim of the battle between Disney and DeSantis' deranged Disney antics. Facts: ESPN is owned by Disney. All is needed is a simple phone call between Disney CEO Bob Iger to James Pitaro, President of ESPN, and the rest is history. Typical corporate boardroom move. Shame on Bob Iger to take it out on FSU coaches, players and fans.
Feldman nailed this on so many levels. Being afraid of a blowout and rigging the selection to prevent a blowout is wrong on so many levels. Fans of sport enjoy the meritorious nature of sports. And nothing is more exciting than the underdog rising up and winning the championship. The possibility of the unexpected happening is what makes sports worthwhile. Appalachian State beating Michigan. NC State over Houston. Villanova beating Georgetown. US Hockey team beating the Soviet Union in the 1980 Olympics.
And the fact is, blowouts happen in what are thought to be competitive contests. Lest we forget, four Super Bowls were decided by more than 35 points.
My point is in attempting to get the best contests you're destroying the fabric of what makes sports not just entertaining, but worthwhile.
They have a 3rd string QB and had a tough time with Louisville. Bama beats Georgia handily. It seems fair that FSU drops one spot. To act like it's unconscionable that FSU was dropped one spot in the rankings is a little ridiculous lol
@@justaguy328 That 3rd string QB wouldn't be playing in the CFP. Rodemaker would be, and he's an ok QB. Frankly, it IS unconscionable that FSU was left out. It flies in the face of everything I love about sports and the very idea of fair play.
This decision was about protecting the SEC brand that ESPN has invested so heavily into. It was decided in the media and backroom deals behind closed doors, not on the football field. It's disgusting. I would bet my LIFE that favors and/or money were exchanged to ensure the SEC was represented.
Except that now everybody thinks Bama will blow out Michigan and if they do then what was the point of leaving FSU out? Last season TCU *WON* a playoff game and look how the title game turned out.
@@justaguy328 Louisville was a top 12 team at the time, and not a cupcake. Stop talking nonsense, Bama struggled with Auburn and should have lost, struggled with 1 win ark. S Alabama, etc...
Blowouts have happened every year of the playoffs so I don't get that argument. Plus we don't know what FSU offense would've looked like after a month.
Star players from FSU have already begun announcing they're not playing in the Orange Bowl to focus on the draft.
Good. That game is less than worthless.
Orange Bowl means jack of nothing….
yep, which they could have done earlier if they knew Jordan Travis' injury automatically eliminated them from the CFP.
Orange bowl and all bowl games are meaningless as per the cfp committee. Only thing that matters is that sec is in the playoffs.
Next year will be worse because they will pad the 5-12 with sec and put 2 sec teams in the top 4. Good luck winning anything if you are non sec conference
If I'm FSU, I'm not even gonna show up to the game. it's a waste of time and resource for the game that's not gonna earn you nothing. Stay undefeated ? why should they since the "Committee" just showed them that it doesn't matters.
Put FSU in top 4 and you will no why there not in top 4 remember TCU last year come on man
It was week 1 for FSU too when we played LSU
Yep. This debate point is a W for Alabama, too.
FSU got screwed hands down
Money talks and it has spoken
But they blame it on the QB crazy
63-3 😂😂😂
When was the last time a Heisman Winner had three (3) losses during the season? Anyone...? Face it, the SEC had a bad year.
Tebow...2007
R23 dude
Not to mention the fallout loosing players to the portal, how it’s gonna impact our recruiting as well as further diminishing the image of the ACC.. they screwed over a lot of people in the process
This decision has cemented FSU as a tier 2 team until they get into a better conference. I worry about the recruiting class falling apart. I worry about players entering the transfer portal bc all of the wins and hard work didn’t matter. Not losing doesn’t matter. This could unfortunately put FSU back 5 years. I feel horrible for Norvell who worked wonders to bring this team back to the echelon of CFB. Now the NCAA wants to create another subdivision in D1 football which will essentially be the Minor Football League. This sport will be dead in a matter of 10-15 years. It’s ONLY about money. I guess I can’t blame those who are making hundreds of thousands to millions. I thought the sport as we have known it was worth more than that. To me it was invaluable. There is certainly a price tag on it now.
"Losing" not "loosing." It seems that football fans are as semi-literate as the players they follow so ardently. By the way, how would "recruiting" be affected if Michigan beat the hell out of them in the playoffs, as they and four or five other teams would if they faced them.
@@Hume77 Michigan is not beating anybody in CFP. Michigan is a fraudulent team not capable of beating UGA or Alabama. It's Wolverines in again and just like their last two fraudulent appearances they will be embarrassed again and humiliated again and WHEN they are beaten and out coached again by SEC Champion or pitiful TCU token team that whipped Cheaters in first round. Hopefully this is the last time the committee puts Michigan in period. They aren't beating UGA and the whole world knows it. CHEATING FRAUD PARTICIPANTS the real CFP
@fdapocalypse Well the issue from this season won’t be an issue going forward. FSU got bit by the four team structure. If the expanded playoff that’s being implemented next year had been in place this year FSU would’ve been in. And one of the ironies is that the ACC itself was a major piece of the contingent that delayed the implementation of the expanded playoff and now are paying for it with the exclusion of their champion. Not to mention FSU themselves have been spouting off about the ACC being a tier 2 conference as they have publicly spoken out on their issues with the revenue sharing they receive from the conference and have publicly stated that unless the revenues change that they’ll have to seriously consider an exit from the conference otherwise they’ll not be able to compete at the higher levels since the top schools are receiving much higher revenues from their conferences than FSU has been.
So I guess you could look at this as finally labeling them and their conference in that tier, and it does, or you could also look at the things the school itself has been saying about its conference in public forums already and consider what picture that has painted of things as well. It really sucks for them and the players but under the protocol of the selection committee, which dictates picking the best teams not the deserving teams, and says that injuries to key players or key coaches who won’t be available that are likely to affect their performance in the playoff need to be considered when making the choice the committee made the choice that aligned with that criteria. It’s too bad that the ACC alongside the Big Ten and PAC-12 fought off adopting the expansion earlier because thanks to their efforts with delaying it the ACC lost out on their champion being in, the Big Ten would’ve had two more teams in, and the PAC-12 would’ve had another team in. So while the Big Ten and Pax-12 still turned out fine and got their champ in they missed on added teams and the ACC with the weaker conference got boned.
I don’t get the argument that early season wins aren’t important (fsu vs lsu). Nobody said anything about the Texas win at bama not being important due to it being early in the season. The committee had to put an SEC team in which had to be bama. And Texas won the head to head so they get the spot higher than bama. ESPN can rot.
This whole BS about who's gonna play better on TV being more important than your win/loss record undermines everything about any sport. This committee just casually told us our face that THEY didn't THINK that FSU could be as competitive as Alabama in the playoff game. Are you kidding right now? There are crazy upsets in football every weekend. Boo Corrigan lied through his teeth with a straight face. And I ain't an FSU fan either.
Games are rigged
@@seekingthetruth2748 The system is corrupt...lots of money and self serving liars and useful idiots on this forum who do not understand this and fall over themselves to justify the Committe's action because Kirk Herbstreit told them it was the right move or Bama is their team.
Upsets in the top ten ranked teams are rare and they don't happen very often , especially when playing teams outside the top 25 rankings. FSU is a 13 1/2 point underdog to Georgia now , how many FSU fans are going to bet the house on FSU ????? . . . I Thought So !
If I were FSU, after the coin toss, have the entire team have a SIT IN at the 50 yard line and demand answers. And let the fireworks begin. Let's see how quick ESPN goes to a commercial.

Lol... what fireworks? You will be sitting on the 50 yard line a very long time. Additionally, FSU loses any bowl money. All FSU expenses would be out of pocket.
How can any sport have a playoff that literally rejects "the most deserving based on their on field performance" in favor of "hypothetically better on paper"? If that is the case, then Vegas should just pick the teams. The system is a corrupt abomination, having no connection to fair play in amateur athletics.
I'm not sure the committee agrees FSU is "most deserving based on their field performance". I think the argument is that 1 loss to the #3 team, with the 5th hardest SOS, then beating the #1 two time defending Champs makes bama "more deserving based on on field performance"
@@cosmicdisaster02 FSU has a higher strength of record than Alabama, and Texas. FSU won all their games including two against the SEC, Alabama and Texas did not. They chose Alabama because money. They chose Texas because they chose Alabama. It's a travesty.
@@RandallEike SOR isn't really an argument. If you know what it is, you'd know if you go undefeated you're going to have a good one. it doesn't denote how difficult it was to go undefeated, meaning you could just play bad teams the whole season and still have a great SOR. Every team in college football steals signs, the only rule broken was Michigan had a staff member, not a position coach or coordinator, got to opposing team games. You cannot go to opposing team games, he was in association with a booster, over 30 games were attended. The game isn’t played by an analyst it’s played on the field. That malts had information that most teams would have gathered via fil study or by the end of the first quarter. Michigan had a staff member that went above and beyond he wasn’t the difference maker in michigans success.
@@sportsmediaamerica You really think Eisen is woke??? No way, dude. His takes make way too much sense and he never brings up the usual woke stuff.

Feldman correct. There actually is some honor among the CFB pundits, you just don't get to hear their voices too often. Booger and Bruce have earned my respect. FSU ticked all the boxes the "committee" says you have to tick. There should have never been any doubt the Seminoles played their way in. If they wanted Bama THAT bad, they could've pulled the old "best win" rationale in that they beat #1 Georgia, thus leaving Texas out in the cold. The "committee" comprises a bunch of ball-less, cowering old farts.
FSU-UW might have been a pretty good matchup.
Feldman and Booger McDummy don't know CF at all. No respect to these guys. Committee got it right 100 percent. I'm an Illinois fan...so no bias. I would argue Georgia should have gotten in over Texas.
I respect this guy he stood 10 toes down and had an answer for every excuse to take FSU out ty Sir 👍🏿
The committee couldn’t bear the thought or ESPN couldn’t bear the thought? Really stop acting like ESPN didn’t play a role in this.
Absolutely ESPN. They just invested $3 Billion into the SEC for media rights.
By Texas being in, the committee already showed that they had Texas slotted, 3 or 4. FSU was eliminated when Jordan Travis got injured. The committee just didn't tell them, that's the dumb part of it. Then Bama won and the couldn't put Bama over Texas.
So FSU would have been kept out had Georgia won? The committee would not have simply selected four undefeated conference champions for its playoff. I’m asking only because you’re convinced that the fix was in from the time when Jordan Travis was injured.
Exactly 💯
When Jordan got injured FSU didn't move. But they kept hoping FSU would lose so that they could do whatever they wanted. But FSU wouldn't lose.😊
@@seekingthetruth2748 . . . and Georgia screwed ESPN’s committee by not taking care of business. If Georgia had won, then Georgia’s in at #1, FSU’s in at #4, and the Committee could have washed its hands of 1-loss teams completely, thereby avoiding controversy with a precedent infused post hoc rationalization of undefeated power 5 conference champions deserving to continue into the playoff. There’s a built-in plausible justification for absolutely anything and everything. Subjectivity is what it is.

Personally Florida State got a double screw 2 teams with losses over a undeafeated team that found ways to win with 2nd and 3rd string QB. Their defence rose up for the occasion and played lights out. Every reason that is given as to why they dropped to the 5 spot is an excuse to cover the fact that they felt they couldnt snub Alabama after beating Georgia. And that Texas beat Alabama they coukdnt snub Texas. They took away everyones chance to see Florida State pull off a huge upset which very well could have happened. They need to stop looking in their crystal ball predicting outcomes of games when that is just playing odds really and odds get broken regularly. Your second- and third-string quarterbacks have been with the team all season. How many practices do they need to prepare? Most coaches say that their players all have to be ready for the next-man up scenario in any game. If they were not ready for Florida or Louisville, they would not be ready for the Orange Bowl.
We all know darn well if FSU was 12-1 and Bama was 13-0 there is no way the Tide is being left out of the playoffs

Y’all don’t know football. This isn’t the nfl. Bama and Texas with one month to prepare will blow out these teams . They don’t have the dogs up front
The SEC still got two teams in (Texas).
Michigan, Washington, Texas, Alabama, and FSU were conference champions. The ACC is the weak link in the five. Fairly simple.
The regular season record in the NCAA stop having significance when the BCS was instituted. Back then a perfect record only mattered to the power 5 conferences, well that was the excuse given. Now as the conferences consolidate even further, they are now giving the same lame excuses to a power five team. This will continue even with a 12 Team playoff, because its always been an invitational and never a playoff. The games only matter AFTER you get an invite.
More conjecture and opinion. Georgia needed a late touchdown beat Auburn, and while FSU was 2-0 vs. the SEC, Bama was 9-0 vs. the SEC.

FSU isn't even a top 10 team w/o their starting qb....lets stop the fake outrage please
This whole thing is ridiculous since the committee is valuing "competitiveness" over merit. On the "competitiveness" note though, it's based purely on speculation. Can a Bama fan assure me that the Bama team that played Georgia will show up in the playoff, as opposed to the Bama team that "showed up" against UT, USF, Arkansas, Texas AM, and, ya know, AUBURN LESS THAN 2 WEEKS AGO?
Can a Bama fan convince me that Louisville is some meaningless win for FSU (with their THIRD STRING QB) when Louisville was a 2-loss team who (1) played Ga Tech about as well as Georgia did, and (2) played Notre Dame significantly better than Ohio State did?
The 4-seed was slated to play Michigan. Bama's run-defense is wildly inconsistent, yet you're going to argue that Bama will absolutely provide a more competitive game against Michigan, who has arguably the best offensive line in football, two excellent RB's, and a mobile QB? And as good as Michigan is, it is just as likely that Michigan lays an egg in the playoff like they did the past two seasons, which means ANY 4th seed was bound to play them competitively.
We all know it’s about tv viewers and money.
It's called the power 5. The four best conference champs made it. The rules of the Selection committee says they take injuries into account when deciding. FSU is gonna get the doors blown off them by Georgia & this whole discussion will be pointless.
Even back in the BCS days maybe 15+ years ago, I was telling friends it should be an 8-team playoff with the Power 5 conference champs with next 3 at-large but 1 of the 3 needing to be from a non-Power 5 conference to allow for the non-powerhouse having a great season a chance. (Liberty, Hawaii, Cincinnati, Boise State, etc.)
God this argument has been making me laugh for years. Yeah as if having 3 random at-large selections wouldn't matter when so many other teams are competing to actually win their conference championships. smdh
The CFP should have been 1: Michigan 2: Washington 3: FSU 4: Texas
Sham Show playoffs
NCAA lacrosse = You win your conference, you go to the tourney. Simple
Where is the lacrosse vlog? *crickets*

Playing a championship game of any kind can have a team play differently. A trophy is on the line. Funny how a 16-6 score is “bad fsu, shame on you” is worse than not winning your own 7 man division and getting a free bye week not having to play a championship weekend which is taxing on your body and going straight into the final 4 playoff (talking about you Ohio state or Bama, just about every other year)
Crystal clear the CFP only wants SEC in playoff now and always!
And they want to get rid of Harbaugh for standing up for players taking revenue share of Network TV.
They're working hard to pillage college football for any money they can get out of it. What's the point if you have to share it with the players?
It feels REALLY weird to agree with Harbaugh about anything, but the cynical part of me wonders if that's just an attempt at an image makeover to distract from his cheating scandal.
@@rylian21Harbaugh has been saying the players should get a piece of the pie long before this season.
@@rylian21 I cheat the Devil for God too. Do you.
This is not a case of Not Fair this is a case of being A CROOKED ORGANIZATION
The announcers were pimping for Alabama during the ACC title gsme
The committee chose the playoff teams not based on whoa the best or most deserving, but on who would generate the most viewers and thus revenue.
THE GAMES HAVE TO MATTER!!!
They do. Florida state which is my team doesn’t have the horses
If Bama lost to Auburn and then beat GA, they would have dropped GA to #4 and FSU to #3.
If GA beat Bama, they would have had FSU at #4 and Texas would have been #5.
The seeding was all about pandering to the SEC.
lol, I quickly lost interest in college football about 20 years ago. As a South African who played rugby, the shitty tackling in football, then players only play on one side of the ball, the constant stop start (and players actually get tired) then this politics!
I predicted this
what shocked me is that Washington did not get screwed to get Georgia in.
I was actually thinking the same thing. Even though I went to a Pac-12 school, I really thought Washington might be the ones to get screwed. Nobody is talking about Washington right now. Another team nobody is talking about is Ohio State. Their only loss was to Michigan by 3. If Michigan is #1, wouldn't that put Ohio State just behind Michigan and above Texas and Alabama?
Florida and Florida St been a rivalry game since Bobby Bowden was still alive. That games will always be on the schedule
Rivalry weekend is AWESOME. The rivalry part always trumps the W-L records.
I remember when the SEC won with defense and offense.
you mean last year?
Oregon is never any good
Media hype, weren’t they 10+ point favorite vs Washington?
Texas was not the the actual death knell for this debate - that was Alabama beating Georgia. I thought from the beginning that the committee wouldn't be able to ignore Bama if they won out (and consequently beat Georgia) back when it became apparent that Bama would be stuck at #8 and Texas stuck one spot ahead of them at #7. However, I also thought (with typical fan bias) that it may require one of the the other undefeated teams that were presently in the top four to lose, but as I would later realize, this bias was the actual "path of least resistance" I sought in attempting to comprehend this situation. As the committee would prove, they did have the balls to yank out a team as prominent as a power 5 champion. No doubt, it appears to be bad optics, but in the scheme of things, this clearly demonstrates that a four-team playoff makes no sense in context when you consider that more than 130 teams are essentially competing for the same prize.
Why waste time criticizing or defending a 4 team championship the entry of which is entirely subjective. It's an inherently unfair system.
In the old days of AP and UPI polls, that's exactly how it worked: Subjective based on the observations of coaches and writers. Then all the good teams were matched up in bowl games, and after the bowl games, again, another round of voting determined the #1 team. That system was just as reliable as the current cluster f**k.
They disregard and proven record, the record makes it legitimate by the way and instead went on opinion and innuendo! That's po t blank wrong..
Lower flags to half staff , the credibility/integrity of the CFP died on selection Sunday . RIP CFP and College Football.
Have watched CF for 40 years. This is the worst mistake ever made by a selection committee in ANY SPORT. There needs to be punitive consequences for this level of incompetence.
FS has dropped from 4th to 5th, then on down to 11th. Throwing a tantrum really works.
When I was a Jr in HS we played the 6th ranked team in Alabama, they were predicted to blow us out. We won 13-12 knocking them out of the playoffs………you just don’t know
Bruce is spot on
The structure invites criticism - the bowl structure lives on in many ways. Did they select the four best teams? Probably
Maybe? But it's likely Georgia would have gotten 4 of its offensive starters and 3 on the defense back before the playoffs. Maybe they should wait a few weeks before the committee decides 😅
They need to know who the are putting into the cfp to determine the bowl games. So they can decide the teams they want not only for cfp but also who gets the best bowl games
Then might as well go back to the old system, where coaches and writers vote based on their own subjective views of the teams. Then, if an FSU doesn't impress, it can be reflected in the final tally -- a consensus -- and we can all readily accept the outcome regardless of record.
What are we talking about here? Alabama played TWO TOP 5 teams. Florida state beat the 3rd best ran in the SEC week 1. If FSU played Alabama’s schedule they are NOT undefeated. Be rational lol.
Why aren't more people upset at TCU? If they didn't lose by 100 points, they might have been more likely to exclude an SEC team.
So Strength of Schedule is irrelevant.
Also every other top team except Texas had tough rivalry games
Texas lost to Rival OU
The Playoff should have been 8 teams all along, a scenario like this was bound to happen. As Bruce said, you have 4 spots and 5 P5 conferences.
THIS. ABSOLUTELY THIS. IT IS BAD FOR THE SPORT. PERIOD.
Games don’t matter no reason to play them anymore. Football is dead
