I was amused to hear you describe Cormac as an unusual name and suggest that it was some unique family name passed down; as an Irish person it never even crossed my mind because it's such a normal, common name here. I know at least two Cormacs off the top of my head. An interesting note on pronunciation, we tend to reduce the second syllable even further (the exact same pattern as in ‘Ormond’, instead of ‘cor-mack’ with the A fully pronounced), so the full name Cormac McCarthy fits your stress pattern even more smoothly.
Benjamin Franklin Samuel Johnson Emily Bronte Carson Mccullers Cormac McCarthy Agatha Christie Barbara Tuchman I love it. This is the silliest thing since KD Books ranked the classics based on their ISBNs
“Free, Free
Nelson Mandela”
A surprisingly rhythmical topic for a channel with your name.
Ian McEwan, Evelyn Waugh
I’ve always liked Atul Gawande’s name, which fits into the same musical pattern. Fun video! Thanks Daniel!
Excellent choice. Atul Gawande IS an excellent name. Now I have to go and read one of his books.
I’m 8 months pregnant trying to decide on a name so thanks for this!
Ooh how exciting. I took the naming of my children very serious. They are each the only person on the planet with their names.
Angelou is actually a Greek surname, with the stress on the 'e' Perfect fit!
It makes me love her name even more!

As a child of two Irish parents, I should have been more sensitive to this, but I do not believe there were many Irish Jews called Cormac.
@@GuiltyFeat Yeah that's probably a fair assessment!

Percival Ev'ritt
OcTAvia Butler
ITAlo Calvino
Milan Kundera (not sure what syllable the stress falls on in the first name though)
Milan Kundera definitely works the way I have always pronounced it. Love OcTAvia Butler, also. Well done.
Since Marquez is from South America you dont use the "th" emphAsis they use in Spain. 😊
But I like the feel of it in my mouth so much better that way! Drat. Thanks for letting me know, though.
