    I was getting these weird looks from my wife of 44 years every time I tried to tell how to fix that carb. (out loud) LOL. I've had hundreds of those apart!! I'm gonna dig through my old stuff and see if I have a box of NOS snow parts. I'm gonna also look and see if I have my old vintage snowmobile repair manual around. I'm by Prairie Farm, WI. Barron County. If I find some stuff I'll try to get in touch with you and give it to you. Worked on dozens and dozens of those old Cats with the T1A,T1B and,T1C Kawasaki engines. Your videos remind of some good times in the garage wrenching on old sleds. Thanks for the content.

    Great rebuilt The only thing I would suggest is not to drive it too long without snow. Snow lubricates your slides. Without it, you'll burn them right out.

      What you are saying while is true those old sleds were tuff as hell, we beat the snot outta these entire summers before having to change them. Mind you we didn’t really care about then 🤷‍♂️😂

      @rapidfire-0680 8 місяців тому

      That is a good point, & I was wondering why he didn't just clean out both of the carbs. At the same time while he had them both apart🤔?, that way they would both be all set and ready to go 👍

      sleds with only bogey wheels you can use on whatever. these slide rails NEED snow so they dont melt to the track

    • @glenmallory9982
      @glenmallory9982 7 місяців тому

      @@kollinspencer847 not wanting to pick a fight but we sold these new and did a lot of testing on wet grass on cool nights. The hifax held up fine as long as the grass was damp. The old sleds were tougher than the new ones for sure. Crap we grass dragged for years and I think we only went through three sets of Fax all summer. The cleated tracks were fully open so they didn't stick like the rubber ones. All has to do with proper suspension set up.

    • @glenmallory9982

      ill throw some old grass dragger tricks. Run the track tension as loose as possible without derailing or excess slap. Helps if the grounds wet. If it's a hot dry day we used to run slide rail lubers. They got banned sometime in the 90's because people were running exotic slippery chemicals thru them. I just ran dish soap and water with a little windshield washer thrown in to prevent freeze up. Nothing deadly. Worked great. Also on 50 year old sleds its a good idea to replace all the driveline bearings. They rust up and drag. Also on the old Cat skid frames it's mandatory to go thru the swing arms and free up the swing axles and the arms. Get the lithium grease in there and the rust out. Replace the rear skid shock with a new one. Dennis Kirk still has them last I knew. Once you do that and get the spring tension right you will be surprised how the sled performs. Yea it's only three inches of travel, but three inches is better than 0 if she's rusted up solid.

    DAMN you have alot of patience when it comes to fixing things !!!!! You should leave your video titles open ended so more people will be curious as to what happens in the end . It's one of the main reasons I enjoy your videos all the way thru . Problem solving is a lost art form nowadays and watching someone run thru a mental checklist of what they should try or look at next is what makes your videos fun .

    Excellent Videos. I road these Panther 340's and 440's back in the day. It runs now because of the quality builds then and your skill now. Highly recommend lubing the slide rails with Dawn Detergent if you do not have some/enough snow. A trick we did in drag racing them. Seen a number of tracks and rails ruined by dry running..

    Hey Joe, it's running lean....possibly because of the metering diaphragm being a bit stiff. In the meantime though try turning your mixture screws out maybe a half turn or so... turn down your idle speed too. Do the engine a favor and rebuild that carb top to bottom using all new pump and metering gaskets and diaphragm.... you'll be amazed at how much it will idle AND be more responsive to throttle.
    Nice work dude ;)

    At about 20:40 after looking into your old fuel tank I see it has a few issues, however here in Michigan there used to be a company who would renew fuel tanks. I’m not sure if there is still a company still doing that kind of work! I believe it was call “Renew” I know it worked because I had it done on several trucks and my boat tanks! They basically rubberized the inside and the outside of the tank if you wanted…… never again had rust or leaks after completed!

    Those Kawasaki engines were great when they were tight, but had a lot of seal problems. Head gaskets,gaskets under the cylinders, center seals and end seals on crankshafts. Often what appeared to be carb issues was really seal issue.Like any two-stroke they need to be free of air leaks. My first A/C was a '72 Panther 399 cc. Great sled in it's day. Great video !!

    I have a small trick for those carbies that have multiple plates with gaskits oll over the place, dont take them apart if you can help it, just soke them in a tin with carbie cleaner it it for about twenty four hours and then blow them through with an air compressor, usually ti just melts the old oil that gets left ii it.
    The other way is in a sonic clear bath of spirits, something i invested in early on because they work so well!!!

    Yikes! It is amazing just how Crusty these older machines can get.
    My friend's father bought a 1971 Artic Cat Panther, and while the Dad might have rode it a handful of times, my friend and I rode the daylights out of it. Rolled it at least twice and abused it in every other way possible too.
    Think we were 14 and 15 years old at the time. Thought we had the World by the Tail, and would live forever.
    We had great fun with that sled though. Fixed it, broke it, fixed it again, and again. Lots of Hard Miles with two Teenage guys having only two Speeds, Fast, and FASTER!
    Fond memories, then we had to Grow up, and to be Honest, life has not been quite as Free, or Fun since. But, that is part of finally growing up.
    We both learned out to say, "Yes Dear", and so it goes.
    Actually Life's been good, and I'm only joking a bit here. Even if I am now as Crusty as your Parts Sled! time Flies, and you don't get any of it back.

    Enjoy the channel, but my only comments would be what others have mentioned, that you label the videos so that it is easier to find the videos that are for the same repair, and to do followup videos if you can’t repair or are waiting for parts like this snow-sled. It would be great if you had a partner who came in after them repair and discussed cleaning and restoring the project to see a before & after for separate videos to decide how much money & time to make the project look good. And lastly, you should have your own website to list your repairs for sale. You would have a greater sales base and charge more to subscribers who follow your channel and want to buy the restoration. I see your channel eventually evolving into a restoration channel like American Restoration buying, repairing and restoring and maybe instead of buying have customers pay to have you fix and restore these classic machines

    The colder it is the better it will run. 40 below zero in that thing will give you a ride. I see why People in Wisconsin go to red lake Ice fishing.

    I did not think you could ride without snow. I do not know much about snowmobiles. Does it overheat without snow ?

    Usually what I do to find out if the crank seals are bad or going on the machine I usually take a handheld propane tank and turn it on and go by the clutch and if the engine winds up you know the crank seals are going I just rebuilt a 467 they are very rare to find usually you find the mx470 and that's how I found out the crank seals were going by using propane handheld tank to diagnose the problem

    This is the difference between youth an old age. I wouldn't run my vintage sled in conditions like this, the young guys can't resist. Of course I am willing to spend the money to get it properly fixed as well. You will know the seals are bad when you burn it down, I will replace mine preemptively. To each his own, at least he is not sitting in a bar. LOL
