Not in bad shape for going thru Hiroshima. The good thing about it is that it's a Honda and the motors are bulletproof.
Take the plastics off and spray them with oven cleaner. It will take all the spray paint off and look really good.
It is also possible it is not stolen. Oh yes I seem to remember getting my atv stolen not really. Some people just love to paint stuff black. they even black out their lights.

I had bought a ltz 400 for 200 bucks doesn't have a vin or plastics sadly
@@2vintage eh there's a chance because I've had a wheeler stolen from me I haven't reported it cause I'll see the scum bag around sometime but it's also pretty common for kids or crack heads to spray can these things black cause it "looks cool"
I've seen hunters paint their quads black and the first thing a thief does after stealing anything is to remove the vin number

It looks like to me @ 19:30 when you first started the engine, that the head gasket was leaking as well because of the smoke going forward. But I suppose you'll find that out when the head is taken off to check the valves. I think the local police/sheriff can be called to check the VIN number as well. This one is in a lot rougher shape than your other TRX 350. Good luck.

You are a great guy for offering to give back the possible stolen Honda ATV, I bought a 2011 Harley Davidson Sportster 48 for great price of $3000 dollars and added another $3500 dollars making it look good, I bought it on a bill of sale because of lost title, well it turned into a nightmare as soon as the DMV tried to register it, the state of Kansas had a lien on it for back taxes, not many good guys like you are left anymore,, I love to watch your work on these pieces of junk
12:42-----Joe, if you are working around any level of voltage, you should remove the ring from your finger on your left hand. Have seen what happens when a ring gets juiced with 12V, will burn the crap out of your finger for starters.😬

I love your vids! It must be so gratifying to get these machines running well again. One minor tip, if you turn the oil bottle the other way around with the slant on the bottom (counter-intuitively) you will get smooth laminar flow of oil. No glug-glug. Thank you for sharing your talent!
You can boil carbs in water with a drop of dish soap. Really cleans carbs without expensive ultrasonic..
You should have torn it apart when you first heard the knock lol now you have to replace the valves. Make sure that the oil filter isn't in backwards cause it could be a oiling problem that wore down the cam guide and that's why it skipped time
Sorry to see you run it the first time knowing there was no oil in it. It had compression at that time but developed the knocking as you ran it until the damage was done- kablooey! Dont run without oil -you knew it had none! Check that the oil filter is not installed backwards as this affects the top end oiling and destroys the valve train.

Checks oil at around 6 min. Mark and finds none. Starts and runs at around 19 min mark. Adds oil at 26 min mark after running with no oil. Turns to crap. Watch again. You are wrong.
Finally this guy has been caught out, he is always checking oil last or then running it knowing there is non in there. Fgs just put some old oil you’ve filtered in for a first run if it’s been sat.

Could see head gasket was blowing and head it when first started.... Not checking, topping up, changing oil before starting is never a good idea.... Shame as could have avoided the knocking 🤔

It didn't have a bent valve at first it jumped time and then bent the valve

There should be an application process to buy black spray paint.
Painted all black would make it near invisible at dusk and dawn... perhaps a previous owner was a serious hunter?
I have a felony from 20 plus years ago bought a 3-wheeler two states away at a swap meet guy gave me a bill of sale and signed it a year later it came back as stolen when I pulled over riding in some woods I got blamed for stealing it I was young had a public defender who was useless.
Was it a street legal bike? How did they prove you knew it was stolen?
@Rusty Shakleford street legal? Where I live they don't require a registration or anything on ATVs well not way back then not sure about now. It was stolen from the state I live in so they said I did it!! My mom was there yelling at the judge it was a mess gave me felony grand theft over 300$ Then in 2007 I was renting an apartment and the previous tenants left two cars in the yard for months the landlord told me get rid of them the people disappeared so I had a scrap friend come get them for free couple weeks later a couple guys showed up looking for their cars they had a tow truck I said they got junked! Guess what they called the police said the landlord and I stole their cars had to go court again they charged Him & I with grand theft over 300$ another felony on my record over some BS now I have two felonies for theft and I've done nothing wrong ever.... it's messed my whole life up

I probably bought my dirt bikes stolen cause I bought them for 250 for 2 I already sold the other and got all my money back sold it for 250 to someone who wanted to swap it to electric
I bought a project quad last year and had to print off a wiring diagram to rewire the whole quad.

On first starting with the oil down the plug hole, it looks like theres a head gasket leak (blue smoke emitted) on the right side nearest the camera?
Just because someone painted it doesn't even remotely mean it was stolen. Maybe the previous owner didn't like the color and wanted to change it without spending a lot of money. It obviously was ridden hard and not properly maintained so using rattle can to change the color seems in line with its general upkeep.
I bought a Mini chopper this past summer and it was all planted black I took some of the black paint off and it was a very beautiful purple underneath but they blacked out everything they just like spray paint and there's black paint? I guess they didn't like the metallic purple? most of the wires was cut so on the CDI Box so I assumed that they was having trouble with spark. But for me the black plant it just makes it look awful I think but that's just me. Nice job to keep up the goodness!
Where i live they used to paint them black to sneak on mine property and vandalize or steal stuff or even hunt

Just wanted to say that you leaked the vin on the Website you showed. (It Shows in the url of the Website) So dont let anyone fool you into thinking its their ATV.

Fuel screw, start with 2 to 2.5 turns out. Usually gets you pretty close
I traded a Dewalt impact for a 1982 honda CR250R. It was painted black just like yours. Hot wired.i swore it was stolen but it came back clean.
On the Choke you can find you a small wood screw and get a drill bit that is a little smaller that the screw and drill your hole and take the wood screw and run it into the choke plunger and it will usually turn and pull out and you can also use needle nose plyers to pull the screw out once you have it screwed into the plunger I’ve done this trick many times on old Honda carburetors.
That's a good candidate for a camo job .....usually what I do with the ones that look like this one makes them look more presentable......I also keep a few quarts of burnt oil laying around for machines that I'm getting running for the first time so you don't waste new oil
I just finished a total restoration on a 86 Fourtrax 350 4x4. Parts are extremely hard to find. Took about 6 months of searching the world to find all the parts I needed. Valves were the hardest to find. I went with all NOS Honda parts . Timing chain and rockers are a common problem on this engine. This 4x4 is unstoppable and very reliable though.
That tapping sound could be the timing chain slapping,. Check the timing chain tensioner.

Strip it for spares if stolen, do they vin check yourself
I bought a Yamaha a few years ago painted black came with ownership wasn't stolen ppl just do dumb crap sometimes I ended up removing the spray paint the og blue plastics looked way better

If its not stolen, hope you can remove the black paint and turn a profit.
So what was the issue on the fuel pump?
Nah 2vingtage ran it without oil. Nothing was lubed so it skipped timing. Now has bent intake valves. 50$ of oil or even old oil would have saved him a lot of money. Now the head has gotta come off and hopefully the piston isn’t damaged…

We got a polaris predator 500 but it doesn't have spark
The stator is good and there is no voltage coming thru the wire from the cdi to the ignition coil
I dont know if it is the cdi because a mechanic told me the cdi is good still how can I check and what else can I check
Check ground wires and safety switches
Up by the thumb throttle there is a safety switch. Make sure that isn't triggered

Those old Honda as if you run the low and oil you will fry the Cam in short time. But I'm sure you know that.
Probably needs vale seals, oils going somewhere, sounds good, ring shouldn't be terrible but ya never know.
Most people have no idea what their vin number is to report it.

Vin came back clean
I got my 08 Rincon 680 for $1200 needed a little work but it was painted all black, including headlights. It wasn't stolen. Came with a clean title. Some people are just wierd.

Did you swop the petrol feed pipe arround on the pump? When you was cranking it you could see fuel vapour blowing out of the tank like it was reversed?

One of my Honda ATC from that era had blackened fenders on it, I figured they did it as a stylistic choice or so they could creep around easier at night :D

Keep seeing these old Honda's on UA-cam but I cant find them within 300 miles of me. I have an 84 125 a 85 250 and 86 3004x4. I need plastics for every one. The 250 needs the choke plastic handle bar mech. But no parts to be found.
I painted the 250 army green cause it was really bad. Previous owner who bought it new put bondo on the cracks. It looks horrible

When you showed the website that you ran the Vin on you also showed the full Vin so anyone could see that then say it was theirs
I’d only take it down after I cleaned the rattle can paint off the plastics and see if they check out. If they didn’t look decent I’d part it out

The local police will do it. If stolen, they will take it with them. Better to proactively see if it's stolen than get caught with it later.

I worked at a gold mine in Nevada in the 80s and 90s, the mine owned a 350 forearm that was stolen when I worked there. I would not know the VIN thought.

You ever notice this guy gets these things running and then he sprays them down with WD-40 and that's it...WHO IN THE HELL SPRAYS THAT SHIT ON TOYS.. IT FUCKIN SMELLS , AND ITS NOT FUCKIN WAX, OR CLEANER.....
