The 1997 WWF Royal Rumble was held in San Antonio, Texas inside the Alamodome. Fans attended the event to see hometown hero Shawn Michaels try to win the WWF Champioship back from Sycho Sid and fans would also witness the Royal Rumble match.
Bret Hart and Steve Austin's rivalry gets pushed to the next level during the Royal Rumble match. Stone Cold enters at number 5 and he dominates the Royal Rumble, Bret Hart enters at 21 to a great ovation, but the match ending leaves a lot of fans confused when Austin jumps back into the ring after getting eliminated by the Hitman. The ending to the Royal Rumble would become the main driving storyline on Raw the following night. Other competitors in the 1997 Royal Rumble include Mil Mascaras, The British Bulldog, Terry Funk, Owen Hart, Rocky Maivia and Mankind.
Other matches at the 1997 WWF Royal Rumble include Goldust vs Triple H, Ahmed Johnson vs Faarooq and The Undertaker vs Vader. The whole event is covered in this video.

They all act like they know everything just cause of the internet and "shoot videos" When none of them have actually known Ahmed, or actually have worked with him, have actually spoke to him, hung out with him... They just listen to wrestlers, which is no different than listening to actors. You never know when they're not getting paid to say stuff about someone or act a certain way. Most wrestlers will say anything about anyone for some extra cash, just like actors.

I absolutely loved Shawn MIchaels when i was a kid. When his music hit I would go absolutely crazy with excitement. I hated when he stopped being pushed after his Iron Man match with Brett Hart. That was hard to take for me, but he then reinvented himself with DX and was really popular again so that made me happy. But when i was a kid so many people hated Shawn MIchaels and I NEVER understood why. He was just so fking awesome and fun to root for. He was always the best for me and still all these years later his segments and matches are still better than anyone elses. HBK was the golden generation of wrestling and we will never see another thing like it. It was an amazing time to be a WWF fan. Thank you Shawn MIchaels for your amazing work, you are the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be. I hated Brett Hart when i was a kid but now that im older and loooking back and after watching wrestling with shadows I have a deep love for the guy. Him and Shawn were the best the WWE ever produced in my eyes. Even better than Stone Cold, Undertaker, and The Rock. Brett and SHawn are my kinda guys.

Vince was so damn behind the times with the cruiserweights. With a few exceptions, he was really still in that mindset of the old-school promoters with the only promoting the big, giant, slabs of meat, guys. For the most part, if you were a smaller, more agile worker, Vince and his writing team didn't give you the time of day, or anything really meaningful to do, other than job out for the big guys. He RARELY allowed these guys to showcase what they could do. This Royal Rumble was a prime example. He brought in all these great AAA guys, but didn't even give them enough respect to INTRODUCE THEM to the WWF audiences. No debut matched for them to show what they could do. They just appeared out of nowhere for the Rumble, with the Audiences not knowing who the hell they were, and they pretty much all jobbed out to the WWF guys. This was beyond "behind the curve", and was a definite sign that Vince was very behind the times as to where certain areas of wrestling were going at the time. Cruiserweigts were what MADE WCW. You rarely SAW a cruiserweight on a WWF show.

Another awesome upload from the greatest wrestling channel on the net. I look forward to each and everyone of your videos, great work.
97 really was the true dawning of the Attitude Era. If you look at who was on the card, during this event, the main players of the Attitude Era are there. Things are turning round and looking much different for the WWF, compared to what they did a few months before. The 97 Royal Rumble is a great event and the first PPV in the greatest year for professional wrestling.

The rumble match itself was as good as I remembered, and had the key element to make the match work - the marathon man (Austin) who eliminates loads of wrestlers to elevate himself. Plenty of big hitters coming in towards the end, Bret, Foley, Vader, Taker as number 30 - and a unique finish for the time which helped keep Austin heel but also sow the seeds of Bret's turn.
I agree that the Survivor Series match between Shawn and Sid was better than the Rumble. I'm sure Shawn will have a big grin on his face leading into Wrestlemania 13.

Let's relive it up all over again!! I'll take this on a weekly basis than watching anything the WWE produces these days👍🏻🙏
Edit- at the 8:47 mark looks like Farooq's Nation Member is holding up Ahmeds leg 🤣😂 also during that match as a kid I was sold on it being real heat it was done so well especially the ending. I'm pretty sure when he gave the pearl river plunge to Farooqs lackey Ahmed cut his hand open pretty good. Also the Saltan was played by Rikishi:)

It's pretty crazy that the WWF's roster was so thin at this time that they needed to have everyone from the first three matches pull double duty AND include 4 AAA guys AND pull Jerry Lawler off the commentary desk to get up to 30 participants. Meanwhile WCW had a 60-man battle royal two months earlier
