  • Watch my MS261C-M try on three types of chisel chain. All are chisel type, round filed, but they are all different pitches. I also had two different size sprockets for the .325 and 3/8P chains. I think you will be surprised at the results.

    I prefer the 3/8 chain, less cutters to sharpen and better (inmo) chip clearance

    Great Video! I have the 261cm with 7 pin and ps3 from day 1. The amish sales guy told me I was crazy until he saw it run in wood. I couldn't get an 8 pin stihl rim, where did you get 8 pin? thanks!

    I’ve been thinking about setting up our 261cm with a 32” Cannon Supermini in 3/8 lp with full chisel ground square. I’m thinking an 8 or 9 pin rim, possibly a 10 pin if I can dial in the lp chain that good.

    Since you had no commentary and I did not know when you were using what chain when, I have no idea which chain did better if any.

      Raymo853 chain and sprocket combos are subtitled in white at the bottom of the screen. Just before each series of cuts. 3/8” RS 7 pin had the fastest cut but the best average was 3/8” Picco 7 pin

    I see you have a Stihl tac tied to your pro saw in the back of your truck. I'm guessing it's always running at perk performance 24/7

      That actually isn't my 441 hanging out there in my truck. I did strap my tach to it however to monitor performance in the wood. I was trying out an aftermarket big bore top end on that saw.

    Do you use any carbide chains, and why?

    • @GoFastGator
      @GoFastGator  10 років тому +4

      No carbide chains were harmed in the making of this video. Why? Because it would not be faster than anything tested here. The point of the vid is to compare how the different size chains and sprockets affect the cutting speed of the saw. More so to show off the Picco Super chain at the end.

      I like the PS3/PS on a 7 pin sprocket for a stock or mildly modded 261. Mine now runs the 63PS chain or 26RS spending on my mood. It pulls the 26RS with an 8 pin .325 sprocket with authority since the port job.

    the PS3 / 7 pin seemed the best the PS3 / 8 pin you could hear it load bog down the saw more 8pins are for saws 70cc & up that have the extra torque for them

    I am looking to buy a 241cm or 261cm I like the lightweight on the 241 but at a lb difference and right at 1 hp more and I can go with 18” on the 261 for 55.00 more have you had any personal experience between the two of them? Pros cons thanks

    • @GoFastGator
      @GoFastGator  6 років тому

      K W what do you value more? Handling and precision. Or raw power? The 261 has gotten even closer to the 241 in weight since I bought mine. I’ve used a few 241s, I like them better for pruning and small jobs. I like the 261 better for bucking up smaller trees for firewood. If you already have or plan to get a 60cc+ saw, I’d get the 241. If you are looking for a one saw solution, go with the 261.

      I picked up the Tuning package, 3 63 PS chains, guide bar and 7 pin rim sprocket (For 99 C bucks}. If I'd known then what I know now I'd have brought it home with 2 kits and the .325 23RS would have stayed at the dealer. Its not just that it cuts faster, it would be a deal at the same cutting speed.

    • @doglegdr
      @doglegdr 6 років тому

      That's not to say that the 261 CM didn't chew with the .325 23RS and 18" bar. It was quite impressive until it met its match.

    could you put a dual ported muffler on it and would it help the performance i was just wondering cause i never put a dual ported muffler on a m tronic saw

      So the demonstration saw is all stock and I could feel comfortable ordering the ps3 8pin set up and get similar results with a 18" bar looks like you might have a 16 on that saw? I timed your cuts the ps3 8 pin appears to be the best cutting. The saw also sounds to be working a little less at it also. Where did you get your muffler?

    • @PoolandBilliards
      @PoolandBilliards 7 років тому

      I cannot find this 2nd comparison anywhere. Eagerly awaiting as I want to buy the new 261 with a 16" bar (to be muffler modded) but WAY overthinking the chain size. How do the chains compared on a modded 261?

    • @GoFastGator
      @GoFastGator  7 років тому +1

      mr silly it never happened. I still have the saw. Still use it for everything from firewood to haunted houses. Lol. But life got busy and not much time for chainsaw vids currently. Someday I'll get back to it. I can pretty much run whatever chain I want on it now tho.

      On my stock 241 I tried the stock picco, 6 pin spur, it cut reasonably fast but felt wrong, didn't load the engine at all, felt like it's clogging up in larger softwood, didnt like how quickly it stretches. .325 conversion with longer bar, actually cuts faster, stretches 3x slower, holds the edge longer, loads the engine up properly.
      Larger sprocket for picco would have probably made it cut as fast or faster, but I'm still not a fan of the durability, 1s quicker on a 10s cut doesn't make a difference to me, much longer edge retension and not having to constantly adjust tension is a big deal though.
      I'd say keep the LP stuff for saws 35cc and less, or for limbing only.

    i love it. same chainsaw, would take me 20 minutes to make it through that log (i know because i do it every day), my boss keeps buying shitty oregon consumer chains that won't hold an edge for a minute. all year, i just burn through wood, agonisingly, all day, for minimum wage, because i live in a world full of fuckwits who hate me. thank god for weed.

      if you lesson the 8pin loaded the saw more the 7 pin was better less load and saw keep up its high rpm's better

    • @toddscholze6168
      @toddscholze6168 5 років тому +1

      @@50CC346XP the operator is what loads the engine, not the pin number. If he's applying equal pressure, the 8 pin will work harder. All he has to do is use less pressure or hold back a little and rpm will increase.

    • @toddscholze6168
      @toddscholze6168 5 років тому +1

      The 8 pin was quit a bit faster. If he loaded the 7 pin a little more, it would have been closer, but with this style chain I believe the 8 pin would still be faster. The smaller tooth design won't clean out with big chips when loaded harder with a 7 pin. But let's be real also, were talking about tenths of a second difference. Only matters in competition against your buddy's, not so much cutting firewood. Lol
