Wow. This is very helpful for aspiring breeders. Hopefully there will be more culling type videos on different age of the koi. New subscriber here! Keep it up!
I'm going with you for the number 9 as favourite, it's a nice Doitsu Kohaku for sure. Also the Tancho (2) looks nice currently and surely would be selected by a breeder as well, needs some time to develop to see what it going to happen with the pattern. What do you think of number 1 and 7? For number 8 it surely looks like an unique pattern/Koi. A breeder would most likely not select it though, it only shows one red small marking in the middle of it's body. For a Sanke a breeder would consider it as not enough 'pattern' (red) visible. It would be a nice unique Koi to grow out though and see what happens. Thanks for your reply and stay safe.
Agreed, they are not the best ones in the net. For the breeder worth the effort to grow them up for a couple months and reassess again. It are most likely sellable Koi.
AND we just just had our first successful fry hatching a few months ago. We can see about 100 fry, but think maybe double that are in the pond. (Huge old cement 19th cen pond). SO. Now I'm trying to sort out GORGEOUS breeders from fish that need other homes. Learning lots right now. thnx
I would select 2, 8 and 9. For sure they very beautiful. Thank you very much. Great video and I gave it the #218th like. 😊 Stay safe and take care Sir.
Hi there, thanks for your comment. Nice picks you have, number 2 and 9 are surely in my list as well. I have my doubts for number 8 though. It doesn't have a very good pattern, only a small red step on the middle of it's body. A breeder will most likely discard it, but of course it would be nice to grow it out and see what happens. Thanks and stay safe as well!

Thanks for your comment! 2 and 9 are surely nice Koi. 2 is a nice Tancho and number 9 is a doitsu Kohaku with good potential. For myself number 8 is not a great pick, I think it does not have ve enough red. Sure it is quite an unique koi though, maybe for that reason it would be nice to grow it up 👍
That was fun how u asked if we were given the chance.. it made me realize its hard to choose.. i kept changing my mind.. lol .. thanks for giving us the chance to voice our choices.. its hard.. they're all beautiful..
Thanks a lot! You made some great picks as well. Number 9 is a great Doitsu Kohaku. Number 7 is also a nice balanced Doitsu Sanke. What do you think about number 1?
@Joko Kurniawan, that is quite hard to tell at this point. At least it shows some indications that more white will be visible. When a Sanke grows the fish is stretched a little bit, and some part of the pattern won't 'stretch', meaning more white area's will become visible inbetween the patterns. If you look closely you can see some white in the tail area. And also in the middle section already some white can be seen. Time will tell. A breeder would select this Koi as well.
@@jokokurniawan4060 1 is good but there isn't a tail stopper. Also there is not much white or breaks in the pattern...you can see some white so i guess at this stage the risk is worth taking...it was one of my selection originally.
Exactly, worth the risk & effort to grow it up for a couple of months and see what happens. Probably it is surely sellable for the breeder, which also counts.
Hi there, do you mean next to the dorsal fin on the left side? Most likely what will happen is that it will turn into white when the skin gets thicker. It could happen that the orange becomes darker, but usually it doesn't really develop it all.
Nice picks. Personally I like the Doitsu Kohaku (9) a lot. Honestly I'm not a big fan of number 8. It only has a really small red dot on it's back visible. It won't have any more red when it becomes larger, for that reason I would not pick it. What do you think of for example nr. 1, 2, 7?
Large nets are used by slowly dragging them through the water. For small ones like these usually that happens two or three times to make sure as many as possible are caught.
Number 2 and 9 are surely good choices. Number 2 seems to be a nice Doitsu Maruten Showa (round red marking on the head). Number 9 is a Doitsu Kohaku which seems to have a good body posture and a nice pattern. Number 8 I myself have my doubts, it will most likely have not enough red markings on the body. Only on the middle of the body is a red marking, the rest will be black and white. Not a preferred pick for me, but a nice experiment 👍
That depends on every breeder. Some breeders do select them and take them apart to sell them later during the winter as smaller low quality Koi. There are also breeders that do completely discard them
Doitsu with a few scales will also stay, or even when they are almost fully scaled. If the Koi has scales, then it is just a normal 'Kohaku' instead of a 'Doitsu kohaku' or a normal 'Sanke' instead of a 'Doitsu Sanke' for example. But this breeding is purely focusing and breeding on the Doitsu variety.
Number 9 is really a great Koi. It is porbably one of the better ones in this net. It's a Doitsu Kohaku with a good pattern. Sure thing the breeder will also pick that one and grow it larger! Thank you for your compliment, nice to read!

Hi there, you have some nice picks for sure! Thanks for sharing. I have high hopes for number 9, a nice Doitsu Kohaku. My Doubts though for number 8 that you mention. Orange/Red won't develop on that Koi, so it is going to look very dark (the marking on the head is not a red dot). Let's hope for the best for this breeder!
It depends on the breeder. Some breeders discard them completely, but others grow them out to Koi of around 7-12 cm size. And then sell them end of the year during winter time to dealers all around the world as cheaper Koi.
Yes nice picks. Did you also see number 2 and 7? I think personally I would not pick number 8. It looks unique, but it doesn't have enough red on the fish for me.
2 and 9 are very nice choices when you ask me. For number 8 I myself have my doubts, but I see that many people seem to like number 8. What is for your the reason to select number 8, because of the shine?
@@Aboutkoi hello there sir.. I have a question.. If a koi is not even a japanese koi.. Can a koi develope and be like those japanese koi just by taking care of it?? (feeding, water, tank) im talking bout the quality (size,color,physique).. Or japanese koi are totally different??
Hi there, if you mean it is a Koi that is bred in a different country. Then yes it will also develop like any other Koi. The (grand) parents of these 'Koi' are most likely also Japanese
For baby Koi it especially is important that a lot of algue growth is happening. This encourages a lot of microorganisms that can live in the pond. More microorganisms means more food for the baby Koi
That is true. Spirulina and chlorella are mainly boosters for pigmetation/color. But it is proven actually that spirulina does have a positive effect on growth rates as well. However only really low. I have read research paper about it a few years ago. Perhaps you will be able to find it if you search for it, something like: "effect of spirulina on growth rate carp" (I don't remember the title honestly)
During the first and second selection, breeders usually do not grow out the others. Some breeders do take them apart to sell them as really cheap/low quality baby koi. Most however will become fishmeal.

Hi there, unfortunately we don't sell any Koi. We just try to share knowledge about Koi. Hopefully you will be able to find a nice dealer in your area!
That all depends on the breeder. Some breeders do take their Koi apart that the have not selected. And grow them out a little bit larger to like 5-13 cm. To then sell then for low class Koi. Other breeders completely discard them...
It depends on the variety, a lot of breeder select at around ~3 cm. Usually that is around 4-5 weeks. Then after 5-7 weeks a lot of breeders do their second selection already
Hi hello there. 1 and 9 would surely be in my picks. Also the Doitsu Tancho (2) and number 7 as I can see from the picture. Number 8 I have my doubts, it only has one really small red step on the middle of it's back. This most probably won't be enough for this Doitsu Sanke, so in the end balance will be missing. It does specially follow the standards for a Sanke. Thanks for your comment! 😀

Two with potential, the Doitsu Kohaku and Tancho. What do you think of number 1 and 7?
Hello, I am wanting to buy a sanke koi, I am not sure but I think it's a good pattern. How can I show this sanke to you? Via your social media?
Hi there, yes you can! I'll have a look at it and give you my opinion (from image always a bit more difficult though)
@@Aboutkoi allright, where can i send the pictures to? Your email or something?
Fb is easiest
I sent you the pictures
Please make it clear which fish are being saved, the ones left in the bowl or the ones flipped out with the net. I think #7 has potential.
The ones that are put into the big tank in the middle are the keepers for this breeder!
How do I tell if my koi is a male or female
I've made a video on this topic before, watch this clip and you will learn all characteristics to look at: ua-cam.com/video/aXextLLdm8M/v-deo.html
Would definitely pick no.9
Very nice Doitsu Kohaku for sure! Great pick!
what do you feed them in the first day they're release in a mud pond?
It is mainly natural food, the best source in the first days 👍. Also powder food is used a couple days later
Nr 9 for kohaku and nr 4 for sanke i would pick
Nice Choices! The number 9 Doitsu Kohaku looks promising
Sir, I'm Shahab from bangldesh. How can buy koi from you. Let me know pls
Hi there, unfortunately we don't sell any Koi. We just try to share knowledge about Koi. Hopefully you will be able to find a nice dealer in your area!
What happens to rejected fish????
That all depends on the breeder. Some breeders do take their Koi apart that the have not selected. And grow them out a little bit larger to like 5-13 cm. To then sell then for low class Koi. Other breeders completely discard them...
9 .the only one kohaku hehe
I like the Kohaku for sure! Nice one
Sir what if the pattern is black instead of red?
what kind of koi is that?
Is it good or bad?
Do you mean entirely black with red markings? Then it might be a Hi Utsurimono
@@Aboutkoi
Sir I mean
Kuhako has orange pattern
But my fish sir has a black dot between his eyes and black patterns covering his body.
@@enma4010 That's probably a Showa. But I'm not sure without seeing the Koi
@@Aboutkoi ok thanks alot
Your a huge help sir.
More power for your channel
@@enma4010 Thanks a lot! Enjoy your Koi 😀
what size to first select???
It depends on the variety, a lot of breeder select at around ~3 cm. Usually that is around 4-5 weeks. Then after 5-7 weeks a lot of breeders do their second selection already
2 & 9,,, 9 is the best of them all
9, the Doitsu Kohaku is nice indeed!
for me its number 9☺️
That is a very nice Doitsu Kohaku! Would pick it for sure as well 👍
I would pick 1, 8 and 9? Correct?
Hi hello there. 1 and 9 would surely be in my picks. Also the Doitsu Tancho (2) and number 7 as I can see from the picture. Number 8 I have my doubts, it only has one really small red step on the middle of it's back. This most probably won't be enough for this Doitsu Sanke, so in the end balance will be missing. It does specially follow the standards for a Sanke. Thanks for your comment! 😀
I will go for the number 9
That's a nice Doitsu Kohaku 😀. Did you also find the Tancho?
2,4,5,8, 9 and 10... please tell me why not
How many variety r in koi
Many! Hundreds of varieties, and every year new varieties are introduced or experimented with breeders
@@Aboutkoi super bro can u make a video for koi varieties because nobody have idea about it and also not have good knowledge video in UA-cam can u have time just make it for really TQ for replying to my comment ❤️
Hi there, somewhere in my list of future video's is the topic to show some nice and unique Koi variaties! So for sure something you will like will follow. Thanks for your comment and suggestions!
9 in my fav
That surely is a nice doitsu kohaku, i would also select that one for sure!
9 & 8 are the only two I would have bought.
What price for one?
That depends, the breeder will most likely not sell them at this moment of time. He prefers to grow the best ones a bit larger and then sell them for higher prices
I would pick # 9 and. 8. And 2
I like 9 a lot, a nice Doitsu Kohaku in the making
#9 nice
Yes!! That's a very nice Doitsu Kohaku
Likeer likeeee likkeee
Thanks, Thanks 👍😉
9 for me kuhaku is my favorite colection
That Doitsu Kohaku will surely look good when it grows up. It is a safe pick! What do you think of number 1 or 2?
9 is nice
A very nice Doitsu Kohaku, good choice 👍
How about 1-2-4-7-9-11?
Am I wrong :)?
1, 2, 7, 9, 11 yes most probably the breeder will pick all of these. 4 will be a 'maybe' for this period of time, it's surely not the best but it might be worth it for now to select it for another round.
You were quite right 👌😊
@@Aboutkoi 😊 thanks for the explanation
8 is must ,9 is must,2 probably
Nice choices! Thanks for your comment
