This night was my favorite of the four night run. Both sets were awesome, thank you to Furthur for streaming these shows live. And you can't beat the price!
Wow they pulled out Reuben & Cherise! Definitely my favorite JGB tune. Thanks for posting this. I can't get out to shows anymore due to my location, but I can sense one coming on in the next year or two. Until then, these Furtur videos are keeping me alive. I hope these guys keep plugging away. They are making incredible music.
As a die-hard, I hate saying this, but it needs to be said - THESE GUYS ARE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Sorry Jerry, I do sorely miss your special magic, but I know you wanted to shut it down many years before you passed...
Without Jerry, Phil is more structured and likes his students to stay the same. I completely agree that Phil is very important to the whole scheme of things. He is the most talented, but he needs to remember to JUST LET IT FLOW, instead of thinking 15 bars ahead about how he's gunna blow our mind. Bob should look at some Brad Nowell tapes now on UA-cam. He can play ryhthm AND jam in some quick leads...wtf? Get crazy already!! It's time to EXPERIMENT (does anybody remember laughter?)
WHOA!!!! Are you kidding me?!?! He's one of, if not the *most* innovative rhythm guitarists of all time!! Nobody plays rhythm the way he does...nobody! Most rhythm guitarists play the normal rhythm part where he fills in the music in areas that most rhythm players don't even hear...or understand. That said, I'm so not a fan of Furthur. I keep trying to give them a chance, hence why I'm here. They have no fire. Seems like they only go through the motions of playing GD music.
Jeff tickles the ivory better than any other previous dead keyboardist. Russo drums like a champ too! Bobby is just as good as ever, still livin the music! Furthur is the SHIT!
Tornado juice? Is that like Jesus juice? I just look for bottles of Visine. Hasn't failed me yet and each hit is at least 150mcg. Admittedly I was part of the warzone that stormed the gate at Irvine in 1987. We dropped, then walked along the creek that leads from the hwy to the Amp...We came on so fast and I swore that we were in the Mai Kong Delta approaching Charlie just a couple clicks up the river. Then,as we saw a clearing, it was like a giant anthill going up behind the Amp..Totally insane
"most of the time"...yes, in the early years. That's because Weir was more into the lifestyle of being a rock star than actually caring about his guitar playing.
Needless to say, I was pretty ashamed of myself! Especially when Bob got on the PA and said they might cancel the show if it doesn't chill...The most bizarre thing I will never forget is that 6-8 Weekend Warriors (not true family) were pulling the fence down and holding it to encourage as many freeloaders as possible. One guy was the cheerleader as he shouted directions to all the troops...
You know, I've been listening to this show all day and I have to say Bobby is flubbing a bit more than usual. Bobby solos never tended to be great, especially during the mid 80s when he used what sounded like a steel drum effects pedal ('83-'85), but when I saw him with Ratdog in 2005, he was doing some incredible jazzy rhythm fills that freaking blew my mind. See Jam>Truckin, Ratdog, 2005-04-13
really?have you ever seen Jeff play?he fits somewhere between the studio and a cruise ship,no disrespect, but john madesci is alittle closer to the "dead" feel and i've been seeing jeff since his begining with ratdog but he holds bob in check-for the most part which gets him a gold star.
Santa, Keith Richards: none of these guys are even doing anything remotely close to what Bobby did. He developed his own rhythm style that is totally unique. He might not be Santana, true, but Jerry didn't need another lead. Bobby's staccato plucks and chimes are perfect for this music.
tornado juice was 400mic same yrs as ying-yangs green blue were good red was bunk, blue telephones blue star what later became silver clouds-triple dip.Blessed are the Dead-i still miss The Grateful Dead-ain't no time to hate!!
Didn't know I had to bring my green card to the conversation. I have seen 58 Grateful Dead shows, 3 The Other Ones, 15 Dead, 2 Planet Drum, 2 Phil & Friends, 18 Ratdog and 8 Further. Maybe you'll let me up in the secret playhouse now? Fucking posers
before the allmans, before cream, before the mighty zepplin-anyone heard of the acid test-no jerry no phil no billyand even without bobby there wouldn't be hippies-as most of you proudly proclaim-from a guy who's seen the grateful dead more than once or twice or three etc.LESS PREACHIN and more LIVIN'-opinions,good for you-and still missJERRY!
I'm a huge Bob fan...my favorite Dead song is Estimated Prophet and really love long drawn out psychedelic Playin in the Band's...I remember during Ratdog's first run that he tried to do a lot of solo fills and it was a trainwreck...He does have a certain niche that he has developed, but he's definitely NOT the best all around ryhthm player...I would have to call John Lennon the best...sorry
are you old enough to have seen the grateful dead, not the dead, not furthur, not even p and f but the grateful dead?here's a rule of thumb SINCE THE START-no JERRY no grateful dead-not 1 not 5 not 10 not20 not 30 shows without jerry-crazy?,furthur fans today have good intensions(by trying to keep it alive)but just alittle light(now brent WAS the BEST)SHOULD BE SHED.
nice pedigree-please tell me you weren't part of the riot in Miami or one of the people tearin down the gate at Highgate or sellin bunk tornado juice at RFKorGIANTS now those were posers!
does anyone out there play music anymore or is everyone out there just opinions?don't forget one small detail-without UNCLE PHIL YOUR lifestyle wouldn't even exsist!before bob marley, before the doors, beforePHISH(GIVE ME A f@#$ing break)there was the warlocks-before csn(y),before santana, before floyd EVEN before hendrix-if not for jerry and phil and billy k,,bob was just a hang around,so alittle respect for phil is in order, for without the three i just named NO counter culter-u know your life.
Yes, they are phoning it in which means that Bob is part of the problem. His fills are dated, are repetitive, are non-inventive, are mundane...they are THE SAME fills, chord progressions...whatever as years ago! I might as well save my concert money and just stock up on old Dead discs.....Malcom Young is more exciting....so is Rudolph Schenker
I used to love him, but Bob is arguably the worst rhythm guitarist in rock history. He's a legend in his own right, but yikes, hang out at Santana's house and learn how to play once and for all!
Sure, Weir is part of the problem, as is everyone else in the band. The biggest problem they have is Phil. He's always trying to control everything that's happening on stage. Watch him...he'll go up to his mic, turn off his FOH mix, and tell the band where the change is and when it's happening rather than letting the music play out. So you want Weir to change his parts to songs that have been played for how many years now? And to say that what he's playing is non-inventive is simply stupid.
Oh and grunzy, not enough thanks for posting this gem!
I am Grateful that Phil and Bobby are still sharing their music with us. Thankx for the upload Grunzy
Sweet... missed the bus on these further teen years. Nice to hear now. 2022.

listening to Phil Lesh bass lines is a joy of the highest order.

Yeah, Madeski Martin & Wood really exploded onto the scene after that first lullaby album
Great one again☆☆☆☆
God this is good
I totally agree about Brent and yes, I was on board since '81.
The guitar part is incredible!!
I give Bob and Phil credit for still playing, when it would be so easy to just kick back on a beach in Maui instead.
Oh GAWD! This is heaven!
As a die-hard, I hate saying this, but it needs to be said - THESE GUYS ARE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Sorry Jerry, I do sorely miss your special magic, but I know you wanted to shut it down many years before you passed...

That's so funny, that's whats going on right now. 1st set was only 1hr with West LA fade away lol

That Pride of Cucomonga is a monster.
Keith Richards?
I guess this is why Jerry was having them turn down Bob's guitar most of the time...Garcia was the crazy one
Love vocals on Jack Straw

They look more miserable than ever.
Horrible…
