Thank you Al! I was on the verge of calling a plumber but then I watched your video and, literally 2 minutes later, had the leaking valve sorted. I'm gobsmacked. You are a gentleman! 👍
Glad it helped
This is the second time you (and now Jan) have helped me sort a simple job when a call out would have cost me 80+ that I can't afford. You wonderful man and your wife for giving us girls confidence :-)
No problem, Eileen, only too pleased to have helped you.
You are such a star. I was thinking we wouldn't be able to go to sleep because it was filling our baking tray in four hours. But I fixed it so quickly with this video! Thank you very much!
No problem.
You are the best out there on you tube , easy to understand for novices like me . You are Jane are a friendly couple which makes your videos entertaining. Thank you .

You have just rescued a seriously tearful, panicked moment. A huge thank you!
You're so welcome!
God bless you for this video. I'm very broke n can't afford to pay a plumber. My radiator valve was leaking large amounts of water caused my ceiling under radiator to fall out. I turned the main water supply n every valve in my basement off, I just couldn't understand why it still kept on leaking until I saw your video.. thank you so much you're a life saver I can sleep now. 🙏
You're welcome!
I just followed these instructions and stopped my leaking radiator! WOW...who knew. Thanks for the advice. No need to call the plumber. Which would have been my next step.
You're welcome!
My partner and I have our first house built in 1940 - I didn't know this was a problem we could sort ourselves! Saves us having to bother anyone - thank you so much! Our hardwood floors thank you, too 😂
Glad I could help!
Life saver!! Thankyou!! Was panicking, now I've fixed it, thnx to you both from the North East/Durham x
You're welcome!
Well done guys, great video! I love the dynamic as I put myself in Jans shoes and she asks the questions I would ask, so you cover more details that the pro might overlook. Keep it up! Love the great tips :)
Thanks so much for your very kind comments. Al and Jan.
Thank you SO much for this informative video! I just moved into a hundred year old home and had a leak come from one of the radiator valves. I didn't know what to do, as I'm not familiar with this kind of system yet. I looked on UA-cam hoping to find some help and your video was the only one that truly did. Thanks Again!!
No problem.
Thank you, I used your other video to help with a stuck valve, it leaked a bit when I finally got it opened but all sorted now 😊
Great to hear!
5 years later and you have saved me so much time...amazing 👏
You're very welcome!
@@dereton33 honestly I followed your video to remove a radiator to paper behind it, first time I have done anything of the sort. I came to put it back on this evening and noticed one valve just kept leaking. I panicked thinking its so late in the evening where will I find a place to buy a new valve! I returned back to your channel for help and found this..literally 2 minutes and all sorted. Love u guys, subscribed 💓
wanted to say a big thank you for your video, I let a leaking valve go for ages, had a plumber booked to call and look at it, fixed it myself tonight after watching your video.. thank you!!
No problem.
Thanks guys for this video. The same problem with my rad, nipped up now, no leaks. Cheers guys.
No problem.
A HUGE thank you, it took me literally 2 minutes and certainly saved me hassle and money.

Thank you so much . No need for call out . The knowledge is all you need . Many thanks again

Thanks a lot! I live in the US and our radiator is a little different than the one in your video but the concept was more or less the same. Just 2 turn with my vice grips and the leak is gone! Thanks!

No problem.
Nichola Linnane and money!
Thank you :) as an Asian I didn't grow up knowing how a radiator works. This really helps a lot! 💖
You're welcome!
Jan's a natural in front of the camera! I think you guys should start up a second channel with Jan doing plumbing tips for ladies. I think it would be very successful.
Might be an idea there Matthew.
Did you ever follow up on this suggestion? I think it's a great idea. 👍🏾
Omg. Saved me. I panicked when I tried to turn the valve and it started leaking!
No problem.
Al, thank you so much for all your very informative and useful videos! I had this problem and solved it immediately after I watched Jan's expert spanner skills and advice. Thanks!

I can't believe it was this easy. Fixed my leak immediately!
Yes it`s easy when you know how.
Great, thanks. I tried this but wasnt sure however I saw your video so tightened the valve nut even more and it appears to have worked. Thanks.
No problem.
thanks for your video. my bedroom radiator has been leaking for weeks now with the water wicking along my carpet and under my bed! but didn't want to try anything in case i caused a catastrophe! going to give it a try now :)
You can do it, just have confidence in yourself.
Great video mate! It worked however, a week later it’s started leaking again. Can I replace the valve myself or do I need a plumber? Appreciate the help.
You can, have a few videos on how to replace one.
Amazing, woke up to a soggy carpet and this video saved the day, thanks!
No problem 😊
woke up to a leaky valve ....easy to do, well done for a quick and easy tutorial ... Thank you
No problem.
Of course that's how you repair it! Why didn't I think of it? Thanks for posting.
No problem.
.... and me !!!! lol
Hi Dereton and Jan
Thank you very much for this great video, looks like an easy job but the screw on mine has rusted and won't turn.
It's an upstairs radiator.
Any ideas please or should I phone a plumber.
Thanks
Try spraying it with WD 40. If no luck then call the plumber.
@@dereton33 Thank you very much for reply.
I'll try it later.
Great channel by the way 👍
Great videos on every aspect of plumbing cheers Al.
Glad you like them!
Thank you VERY MUCH. First video that came up and its the only one I needed. Short and sweet! Thanks again
No problem.
Cracking, saved me a few quid, thank you.
No problem 👍
Great video, thank you. Apologies if this is a stupid question - I have a thermostatic valve on my radiator - could I just remove that and do the same fix?
No unfortunetly.
@@dereton33 thank you for taking the time to reply 👍 so would I need to call a plumber to get that fixed?
Thank you very much, now I'll give it a go, one of those people who knows it's leaking but ignores it hoping it will stop 🤣 Anyway cheers and thanks, lovely couple
No problem.
Could you please give me the link to the video in which you explain how to repack the valve with PTFE tape? I can't find it on your channel.
Here it is John. ua-cam.com/video/udlENiipBCU/v-deo.html
@@dereton33 Thank you!
Great video! What if it is leaking only when the valve is off? How does one tighten it then?
The same way.
Hi thanks for the useful tips! quick question: in the beginning Jan says to make sure its turned fully on, anti clock wise. Would it be possible to do this fully turned off instead? cheers
Yes it will
@@dereton33 thanks again!
Thank you this helped me to fix my leak . Thanks a million
You're welcome!
Thank you so much for this video! I'm currently feeling very proud of myself for fixing my radiator :)
Glad I could help!
Thank you so much. Chuffed that this worked. Thanks for sharing your knowledge
You're welcome!
Thank you, I've just repaired me leaking rad, no boiler man needed. I love you tube 😂🤣😂
Thank you so much for this video, you just saved me the cost of a plummer!. 👍
You are welcome!
Jan is a dream...
I know.
Thanks. I had this exact issue - fixed in a jiffy - great job
No problem
Thanks for this! Great help on our old valves!
Glad to help
Ace fixed my problem you gem's!!!!!!
No problem.
Your video gave me confidence to try this repair myself, but then I looked at my radiator knob and I can't figure out how to get it off. It is attached with some type of screw I have never seen before
It may be an allen key screw, just get a cheap set.
Thanks, this fixed a couple of our leaky radiator valves
Thank you sir!
Happy new year!
Same to you!
I have a leak on the other end (the one you mentioned has a few more steps) as well as this one, after dropping the radiator to decorate. Any advice on how to fix? I’ve tightened up everything I can think of!
Check it is not the rad gland leaking. If not loosen of the joint and wrap some PTFE tape around the olive.
@@dereton33 thank you- will give that a try.
Thank you! Such a quick, easy fix
Great to hear!
Hello, I'm a single 33 year old woman and live in an old house where we have one heater dial for the whole building, which is in my apartment unfortunately. I suffer from heat fatigue and there no air conditioning sleeve in my apartment, and the landlord INSISTS on having it at 71 degrees in the middle of MAY 😡
I recently got me a couple of adjustable wrenches to turn my radiators off. (They put the heat dial under lock and key)
I went to loosen up my valves to turn them off and a little bit of fluid leaked out, but isn't a consistent leak. What I want to know is is it harmful for my cat? Can I leave the valves loose so I can turn the dials when I wish, or do I NEED to tighten them back up every single time I need to turn it on and off?
I liked the video, and thanks for the help :)
Dont worry it will not harm your cat. Leave them loose so you can adjust them easy next time.
The bits you mentioned at the end, re balancing - what does that mean? What do the 2 ends do and how does it effect how you sort the valves, as I didn't understand what you said. Tia
Balancing means throttling down some radiators usually the ones nearest the boiler or upstairs ones. You do this by turning the lockshield valve and not the turn valve or thermostatic one.
Ahh haa I think I did it!! Sounds silly I'm sure but I've been stepping on the wet floor in my socks for weeks it was driving me crazy so thank you!! Gona hop up on the roof now and look for a tile to fix 😁
Great job!
Really useful video, and oddly entertaining! Thanks!
Nice video thanks. How did the nut get loose? Does the packing gland nut always eventually get loose on all radiator valves?
Some times through turning on and off, but also the heat just seems to effect them, as they always seem to need that bit extra tighten.
+dereton33 Thanks and hope you are keeping well
We are both good. All the best to you.
This may come in handy in the future but mine (bathroom and kitchen luckily) are leaking from the other end with the dial.
No problem.
Exactly the video I needed.
Great.
Thanks for the tips you guys are so sweet 😊 go team!
Thanks.
Thank you very much for the upload! 👍😊
No problem 😊
Thank you.. Very easy & effective tips.. Saved me time & money
No problem.
Thank you from 2021!
Cheers.
Thank you, greatly appreciated the video and it not only saved me a fortune but also saved my day. :-)
You're welcome!
This man deserves a knighthood!
No , reserve that for guys that are true heroes. I am just a poor joe getting along.
Thanks worked like a charm
You're welcome!
If the packing tape is perished, would you fully undo the nut, wrap it then tighten it?
Yes.
Thanks, you are a life saver, Jan! Good team work there :)
No problem Paul.
What a lovely couple! well done!
Good on ya!
Thanks!
Jan, your the first woman I’ve seen who can actually use a screwdriver proficiently
Not bad eh.
This just saved the day. Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thanks guys! Worked a treat.
No problem
Hey guys I love your videos & thought it would help me fix my leaking radiator. I have a drayton thermostat valve & the nut seems a bit different, I can tighten it forever but it doesn't seem to go tight & is still leaking... Help what am I doing so wrong.
Hi Margaret sounds if the nut could be stripped meaning the nut will never tighten just go round and round without tightening. A new valve is the only option when this happens.
I had a radiator valve start leaking today around the shaft after turning it off to replace the radiator. Tried tightening up the nut but it decided to strip its thread. Drained down system. Fitted another angled valve on. Now the radiator wont heat up at all, the others are fine. Took the radiator back off. Connected pipes to the valves and opened each one checking I had water flow into a bucket. Connected back up to radiator. Filled up and bled radiator. Still not heating up. Making me wonder if the new valve from b&q is not bi directional, doesn't say on packet. Will replace with another which says it is bi directional next.
Keep us informed .
Thank you both!
Any time!
Thanks for sharing , god bless you both
Our pleasure!
Having bought a fancy set of chrome valves for a new towel radiator I have no idea which pipe should feed into the lock shield as the internals are different. One side has a small hole to one side, the other has a semi circle shape through which I can see the valve. Can you advise what pipe should attach to which end. Cheers
The lockshield can be fitted either side, If you change the threaded union as well
This was really helpful, thanks
No problem!
Wonderful. Thanks very much for another excellent video .
So nice of you
That's the vavle I have on my radiator, but I'm having a hard time find a thermostat for it. An suggestions on where I can find one?
I doubt you will.
Hello there, had a water radiator accident today, didn't had a key to depressurize it so I used a key only to unscrew too much and flung it out.
Water came out like a broken sink before I managed to screw it back in.
Is it safe to turn the radiator on?
Yes once the air screw is back in.
@@dereton33 now I have an another problem, no matter how much I turn it it won't get tightly put in, I believe it might be rotten.
I probably need a replacement don't I?
Thank you! Very kind of you both👍
Our pleasure!
I've got a leak at the bleed valve end - can I just replace the valve? It's the newer radiator bleed valves
Yes an easy job.
You are great man! Thank you!
No problem.
Hi any tips for removing a rusted screw from the valve cap so I can fix the leak
WD 400 left over night and a tap on the screw with a light hammer.
@@dereton33 thank you so much I'll give it a go. The screw head is rusted do no grooves to insert screwdriver into and valve is on horizontally not vertically. You are so kind to respond so quickly
The packing GLAND, is that what you said?
Yes.
Ty guys just did this fixed it perfect ty guys made me and my misses calling plumber xx
No problem.
Thank you! You are a life saver! 😀
You're welcome 😊
You're a great team.
Hi Derek. How much should i charge to change out 6 TRV's on a combi system. The customer already bought the TRV's however she bought 15mm TRV's and the pipework is 8mm so I'll have to saw of the olives on the 8mm pipework and put in 15mm to 8mm reducers . Thanks
About £50.00 to £100 depending on what problems crop up on the job. Microbore is a right pain.
@@dereton33 is that 50.00 to 100.00 to change all 6 TRV's as i need to the drain the system as well?
👍👍👍 well explained
Thank you 😃
