@@tomcat6918 Yamaha makes a 425hp outboard which is backed by a factory warranty, years of durability testing and millions of dollars in R&D. Why bother modifying one of their smaller engines to make 450hp and hoping that it doesn't blow itself apart?

@@tomcat6918 what does the supercharged outboard with the aftermarket drive line weigh? The motor in this video appears to be a 4.2L V6 which in stock form is about 600#. That series of engines is rated to 225, 250 & 300 hp so the supercharger needed to achieve a 50-100% increase in peak power would be a substantial piece of machinery. The modification of the drive line required to handle 450 hp would also have to be significantly heavier than the stock unit. I also don't understand how you could add enough boost to achieve 450 hp out of a 225-300 hp motor and maintain reliability without other modifications to the motor such as lower compression pistons/heads, stronger connecting rods or different cams. The Verados increased significantly in power over time but I'm sure that this required more than just adding ever bigger superchargers to a motor designed to be naturally aspirated. I'm sure that Mercury had to make major mods to the engine and drive to keep it from blowing itself apart under all of that boost.

Did Yamaha just kill this endeavor or is it really for sale? I generally dislike the overcomplicated nature of modern outboards.
