What a pleasure this was for me… a 77 year old semi philistine who had never heard of Garth until about 3 hours ago when I was blown away by his performance on the BBC podcast PRIVATE PASSIONS. I have listened to this weekly radio programme/podcast for 30 years: all manner of worthy souls (often major celebrities) are chosen to discuss their favourite classical music choices for an hour. I have never missed a single episode. So trust me when I say that Garth’s episode was amongst the top five or six in 30 years. Riveting. And thus I might have expected this interview here to be somewhat of an anticlimax. But oh no… far from it. I hung on every word (even if the baby did not!)… and his insights here were helped by a warm interlocutor. Bravo to the two of you. (Dai Woosnam, Grimsby, UK)
