- On February 16, 2003, Jack Pierce (makeup artist) received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Local 706 IATSE Make Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild at their annual awards show. Here is a video of the preparation for that day. Makeups were created at The Hollywood Museum by Barry R. Koper (appliances by Kevin Haney) for Frankenstein's Monster, played by 'Monster' Matt Thompson; Im-Ho-Tep from The Mummy (1932 film) by Brent Armstrong and Andy Schoneberg (played by 'Scarecrow' Ken DeShan); the Bride of Frankenstein (played by Sheila Marie) in makeup designed by Rob Burman and applied by Michèle Burke with wig/hair by Ron Pipes; and Pierce himself, created by Barney Burman with assistance by Rebecca Wachtel Herrera and Cindy Miguens. All costumes by Jennifer McManus except Bride by Simone C. Williams. Special appearances by Sara Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Jr., and Ron Chaney.
Jack would be proud to see a new generation doing it old school.
Nice to see Ron Chaney!
I was there that night, sitting right next to Rick Baker, Dick Smith and Forrest J Ackerman as we watched the show.
Sadly the Academy did not recognize the importance of makeup, it took 1964 for a special award to William Tuttle for the 7 faces and later for John chambers for the apes films. Nobody ever gave Jack any thought. Very sad.
It's Burman not Berman
