"The Oscar goes to Martin Landau. Its shadow goes to Bela Lugosi." So beautiful, and so true. A tour de force by Landau, and if there was some great worldwide disaster in the future so that he'd be known only by this performance, along with above documentary as a starting point so people would know who he was playing, it would be enough to cement his greatness as an actor.
It was one of the things that drew Burton to the picture, as the friendship between Lugosi and Wood reminded Burton of his own friendship with an old Vincent Price.
That character portrayal was a triumph . Makes me laugh and brings me to tears every time I see the film. So pleased that both Martin and Rick won those Oscars, but even more so that we have their work recorded for posterity.
RIP Bela Lugosi (October 20, 1882 - August 16, 1956), aged 73 And RIP Martin Landau (June 20, 1928 - July 15, 2017), aged 89 You both will always be remembered as legends.
I just watch the film for the first time, last night. Masterpiece. I particularly enjoyed Martin Landau's performance, but the entire cast was perfect.
This short film is a wonderful presentation of a great film along with fantastic acting. So sad, along with the comic, to create the bittersweet. Well interviewed and encapsulated. Fine work.
What a treasure, this interview. We get the essence of Bela and Martin. Doesn't get much better than this. And, let's not forget the pure genius of the make-up artiist! Absolutely loved this film.
My favorite Tim Burton film. I have it on DVD and have watched it several times. Martin Landau’s performance was a tour de force and he stole every scene he was in. What made it so compelling is that you would forget that it was Landau.
The makeup artist has a cool retro Wolfman Jack look going on. Far out. Landau should have got an Oscar for the part in Xfiles. I can’t watch him in it. He conveys the anxiety of the character so well I get a panic attack watching him.
I watched 'Dracula' for the first time in over 20 years ... Now wiser and more temperate with life, I find myself much more appreciating the power of Bela's performance - and, that of the Lyrical photography! - in evoking a sensuous, even erotic, Dream that Lures and Captures you! ... Bela, may God continue to embrace you in his Graces.
I think that Ed Wood is not just an inspiration for those who want to be film makers; but a love letter to Bela Lugosi. At least that is what I want to believe.
@71cm-reports are conflicting. Some say Lugosi DID hate Karloff because Karloff was a bit condescending of him, seeing Lugosi not as an actor, like himself. But others say they did get along somewhat.
Where did you read that BK was condescending? (Correction: "others" say they got along GREAT. The candid behind the scenes photos corroborate this). Since the candid (not posed) photos prove otherwise, I am still very interested in your reply to my question above.
Amazing that many people would believe that Lugosi was the way this movie made him seem. He would not have used that language and he and Karloff had a lot of respect for each other and were quite amicable.
There's a lot in recent years making people question whether or not this was a true story. Nevertheless, it's still fun to watch Martin Landau performing Lugosi's antics.
"Karloff? FUCK YOU!!! KARLOFF DOES NOT DESERVE TO SUCK MY SHIT!"-Wow! I'm laughing at that line, but it's really a nervous laugh if anything because I know in reality that Lugosi and Karloff against each other nor did was Lugosi a big sailormouth!
Good Lord ... think of yourself much!? ... For someone who begins every sentence with "I" ... it seems like Ve did most of the work ... he reminds me of Corky St. Clair
Is this tawdry film the reason why so many Boris Karloff fans are so hostile and angry towards Bela Lugosi? I've met some lovely Karloff fans on here, but I'm baffled by the amount of uncalled-for hate that has been published directed at Bela since. It's a pity this absurd piece of fiction was touted as a bio and that so many took this parody of a ridiculous performance as gospel when Bela couldn't have been further from this nonsense!
Bigger Karloff than Lugosi fan; those are the two biggest names in horror??? Ummm, never heard of Lon Chaney Jr?!?!😂🤣..They're a bigger icon than them. Then again, Robert Englund kinda crushes them all. But speaking of the classic Universal Studio monsters..Lon Chaney Jr. will always be the best.

The double jointed and Hungarian line is my favourite in the film because I'm both just in the fingers though.
pro trick : watch movies at flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching lots of of movies lately.
@Blaze Owen Yea, I have been using flixzone} for since november myself :)
@Blaze Owen definitely, been watching on Flixzone} for months myself :)
AGREED
I loved Ed Wood. The chemistry between Landau and Depp was sublime.
It was one of the things that drew Burton to the picture, as the friendship between Lugosi and Wood reminded Burton of his own friendship with an old Vincent Price.
The two most deserving Oscar winners, Martin Landau and Rick Baker
Oh yeah. Martin captured Lugosi perfectly. (as far as I know) :>)
Today we've lost our Bela Lugosi. RIP Martin Landau (1928-2017)
OMG how he explains how he did Bela's accent? Example of a TRUE artist

The flower scene made me weep..............M. Landau was, is a fabulous actor.....pure talent!
Martin embraced Bela, didn't reject him. It worked beautifully.

Martin Landau did a great Lugosi, this makes me want to see the film again!
This movie was magic. For once, Hollywood didn't turn out shit.
Martin Landau was just perfect playing this role.
Martin won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, and Rick won the Oscar for Best Makeup.
What a treasure, this interview. We get the essence of Bela and Martin.
Doesn't get much better than this.

Absolutely loved this film.
In my top 5 movies of all time
Martin Landau stole the show
And that's saying something with such a wonderful cast of scene stealers.
Landau was awesome in that role .
My favorite Tim Burton film. I have it on DVD and have watched it several times. Martin Landau’s performance was a tour de force and he stole every scene he was in. What made it so compelling is that you would forget that it was Landau.
Goodbye Martin. Rest thee well.
Love from Hungary ❤
Landau has always been good. But in ED WOOD he was great. I watch the film to watch him.
Great acting great film
one of the great screen performances & make up jobs of all time--landau for bela lugosi--baker for jack pierce...
The makeup artist has a cool retro Wolfman Jack look going on. Far out. Landau should have got an Oscar for the part in Xfiles. I can’t watch him in it. He conveys the anxiety of the character so well I get a panic attack watching him.
Your profile pic looks like a hipster. But, the "far out!" makes you sound 60.

Bela in Dracula was incredibly handsome and when he was a young solidier.
Mr Landau won over Lieutenant Dan!! Amazing and deserved... even though Gary Sinise was simply brilliant!!
Ed Wood is a spectacular film 🎥
I think that Ed Wood is not just an inspiration for those who want to be film makers; but a love letter to Bela Lugosi. At least that is what I want to believe.
Very very nice. Thank you.
A real tribute to those stars whoa stated to scared audiences in motion pictures before nowadays

Impressive
When Martin Landau died, I cried.
Amazing that many people would believe that Lugosi was the way this movie made him seem. He would not have used that language and he and Karloff had a lot of respect for each other and were quite amicable.
Are you sure on the Karloff part?
There's a lot in recent years making people question whether or not this was a true story. Nevertheless, it's still fun to watch Martin Landau performing Lugosi's antics.
Lugosi: "You are under my spell."
I've watched Martin in allot of things he was a great actor but two roles stood out for me this and pinnochio
Martin looked more like Bela than Bela lol great movie, just watched it recently. RIP to Martin Landau ❤
A lesser make up artist.... lol very humble.
LOL, i heard that too and thought what the fuck!
The man has probably won more Oscars for makeup than anyone else. He can afford to brag a little.
@@Heritage367 a douchey comment nonetheless
1:45 So Lugosi was intended to have a normal skin color if Ed Wood wouldn't be shot in black-and-white?
"Karloff? FUCK YOU!!! KARLOFF DOES NOT DESERVE TO SUCK MY SHIT!"-Wow! I'm laughing at that line, but it's really a nervous laugh if anything because I know in reality that Lugosi and Karloff against each other nor did was Lugosi a big sailormouth!
Smell not suck.
Count Floyd.....
Count Floyd was never more than a bad, third hand Bela impression.
lol
Very scary kids, put on your 3-d glasses for Dr. Tounge's 3-D House of Stewardess
Good Lord ... think of yourself much!? ... For someone who begins every sentence with "I" ... it seems like Ve did most of the work ... he reminds me of Corky St. Clair
He has won seven Oscars for makeup, more than any artist. He can brag a little.
Sorry *Nothing against each other

I hope that was a joke. No one in Horror was bigger then Karloff and Lugosi except Lon Chaney Sr....
Lon Chaney Jr was a bigger icon than Lugosi? Don't make me laugh
I was Lon Chaney’s lover!
How about Woody Tobias Jr.? In Midnight Cowboy 3-D
