That Votan army is why I run creed and pump out FOF. Just sits solo next to my lord solar command squad with mortar. Combined with withering fire, you can AP4 on big guns, which rips through anything without an Invul. If the other side has indirect you just put her in the chimera, and pop her to use her FOF. If you have the CP, you can FOF twice.
Bruv just keep posting this so Guard commander can actually start using it. Literally have not seen anyone have Ursula sit in the back and give FoF every turn. It's how the army is designed 😢😢
Regarding the end of game 2, Armoured might is only in your opponents shooting phase so wouldn't have helped against the hearth guard combat. Otherwise great video and very informative. Keep it up!
It was in great part your tournament 'campaign reports' that pushed me into entering a 40k tournament for the first time last week, around 15 years after I first popped open the Battle for Macragge box set for 3rd Edition.
I play mechanized infantry, 6 flameras with catachans (or ogryns), and I'm sure it's the way to play. Getting the bois there fast and en mass has won me games even against Eldar and Chaos Space Marines.

@@chaoticclonestudios Not saying its unfair, just saying it is not unexpected since most guard stuff is just similar but better sisters stuff. Ergo if something works for sisters you can get even better results by playing it in guard. Edit: Though now that I think about what I just said...I guess I am saying its unfair. I think the only thing sisters really have over Guard is some good heros, which is a bit of a curse actually because they are so much more threatening then everything around them that they tend to draw all of the fire, and Celestine or Vaal are no Angron.
@reaemishi2278 True, I was mainly mentioning how essential the tanks were to the guard their just human, so of course their gonna have good tanks. I don't really know much about the soroitas load out yet since I've mainly been looking into stuff about the guard
With the rules interaction for the E-Cogs 49:05 - the rules interaction is that they are part of the Iron master’s unit. Not the bodyguards. When the Iron master joins the unit, the E-Cogs go with him, but he is not allowed to start taking wounds on them as part of the unit (to my understanding) because they are not the bodyguard unit and not the characters unit. Always love the enthusiasm knowledge and overall insanity of your vids. Hope I can go against ya whenever I visit across the pond and grab a pint after!
Yo congratulations Mordian for taking home the win! That game two tactic your opponent used is what ive been preaching from the rooftops for weeks now. Your take on Ogryn Bodyguard was off. I was also confused at first as to why wouldnt you be able to use the bodyguard to take hits. 4++, FNP, T6. Itll die but it gets ur squad to the line way fatter. If GW tunes in and Im wrong ill totally hold it, but its so confusing how the rules for 'character' 'precision' 'allocating attacks' all work with combined squads.
@MordianGlory: since you play also Black Templars would you consider doing a battle report between your mech guard list and a 2 primaris crusader squad blob based BT list with fnp 5+? I really appreciate some hints regarding how to handle big units like these that are hard to kill and also battleline. Thanks in advance ☺
I restarted collecting with the aim of playing mechanised but 18 months in I only have 1 Chimera and a converted Salamander. This has given me the oompf to start thinking about stocking up on some more Chimeras!
I just want to mention sentinels (they can receive orders from tank commanders, (because of squadron keyword) or infantry commanders (because of Regiment keyword) and you can bring them back with the Reinforcements! stratagem (again because of Regiment keyword)
I've been running my lord solar naked, Its a bit trickier to utilize but you can keep him safe enough early on and still benefit from the extra cp and his orders. Just takes a bit of extra planning to use his orders more like an aura. I really hate being locked into the command squad/inf squad so I have maybe 9-10 games in using him this way. I've also attached him to a 5 man of roughriders, gives him some chaff and a decent counter charge.
I am finally going to be taking out my guard for 10th edition, seeing how well this did i will use it for some inspiration making a list for my next game.
My only competitive 10th edition game was agaisnt a similar Death Guard list. The guy was practising for the biggest 40k event in Spain and I was kind of his punching bag. Also mortarion and 3 plague mortar tanks.
Congratulations on the win, a great showing for the tread-heads! I've got to ask, did the Demolisher Commander get any shots off on death befitting an officer against the invincible Sagitaur?
I really think it's cool, maybe even a little strong; but it's the worse designed ability in the Guard bar the Death strike. Just for the fact that it's an ability that you not only have to remember, but you have to remember at a certain point. Idk I've seen every Guard commander forget it unanimously. Maybe give it like 2yrs with the index cards and we'll get it.
if you change the manticores to basilisks you get the d6+3 for more reliability vs those backfield units. also saves some points so you can squeeze in some other units.
Just found your channel and enjoy watching your content. I've just got back into 40k after leaving when 7th edition came out. Too many power, win at all cost players, who I just didn't like. I had started selling most of my models and kit. However I have still got my steel legion (I've always been an armour fan} Where can i find the rules to run a mechanised army? Keep up the good work, thanks.
Hey dude love your content. It would be great if you could do a section at the end with lessons learned and a summary. I’m a dad and too busy for a 2 hour vid (but lots of people are loving the detail) - can u just to a tldr at the end of these tourney reports for the busier viewers?
Can I get some thoughts on the wyvern mortars? Those guns have A LOT of abilities on them but is it worth it for what ultimately amounts to anti-infantry? I mean you can stack the dickens out of the gun but for damage 1 and ultimately 4-5x the points worth of buffing units with lord solar, scout sentinel, and exterminator, and/or fields of fire you get 2d6 blast shots with indirect fire hitting on 2s re-rolling 1s (heavy, take aim, daring recon), strength 5 twin-linked so even into t9 it wounds on 5s and re-rolls everything, and it ignores cover and you can stack up to 2 armour pen. Or just use use it to be cagey and make infantry/mounted/beasts be -1 to hit?
You outlined it yourself. It takes all those buffs to make anti infantry super good. Just stack all those buffs on a different unit and let the lasguns and heavy stubbers be your anti infantry.
@@dominicl5862 All that together makes it super good. The exterminator is a house on its own so that's whatever. it's the built-in combo of twin-linked and ignores cover (which will almost always matter because indirect firing) that gets me. Without the lord solar it's still 3s re-roll 1s to hit with daring recon targets. average 7 shots without blast averaging 5 hits into 2-3 wounds against t6-t9. Like this can do in a pinch if you save it for later/would be fantastic for reducing things like thunderkyn's shooting ability. Also, all the buffs except for the take aim apply to everything else you have too. but a f***in FOB of bombast guns gets an order, gives itself sustained hits 1, gets 2 counts of bonus shots from blast because 2 guns at s7, ap-1, and 2 damage for 10 points more + they're regiment so issuing an order is 2x easier/cheaper. and 2 heavy weapon squads of mortars is 1 less to hit and loses twin-linked and ignores cover but you have 6d6 shots and 6 counts of blast for sheer volume at the same cost as the FOB. Why does twin-linked exist just to ruin large volume fire guns?
Question with how indirect fire works? Do the targets need to be in line of sight of a unit in your army or can they just shoot whatever? Basically, say there is a unit I want to shoot, however not a single unit in my army can see it. Thematically, my army has no way of knowing it exists. Then I move say some infantry or whatever around a corner and then they get line of sight on the unit. Could I shoot that unit in the first scenario or do I have to wait for the second.
49:18 just went and read the core rules, does not say "must apply wounds too bodyguard unit" and only refers to character model, so the TO's ruling is correct. Thats a cheaky way too midigate wounds... imagine a command squad for bullgryn...
A glorius win! Just a shame all your lads were promptly liquidated by the Inquisition soon after the events. If only you hadnt buggered up those Wolves, they might have helped ! lol.

3 months late, but the last mission was so unique and really showcased the list. Glad you got a surprise change.
