IM BACK!!! I'm feeling gloomy and pessimistic today so let's dive into some goth/gothic music. Including Post-punk, Dark wave, Goth rock, and Death rock. I remember first hearing about goth back in 4th grade from South Park from that one episode where the goth kids made their debut, I searched more about Gothic culture from books and got into bands like Souixie and the banshees afterwards, liked this video, also you look really nice in the attires you used in the vid 😊

That was great! Very complete summary of the many genres in goth music. For anyone interested I'd like to add a couple more that I think are also worth mentioning: Psychobilly and Horror Punk. They are a bit more upbeat and fun but still dark and horror inspired.

Nice list. Goth was never among my favorite genres of music, but for someone getting into punk and metal in the mid/late 80's, (yeah, I'm 50 years old), I do recognize a lot of the songs and the bands you mentioned. A lot of classics I either heard on the radio, at friends, at parties, or clubs.

Wow! You have researched the history of rock music (in this case, gothic music) very well! Of course it's ok that there are these special genre names like gothic rock, dark wave, etc. But I never see it as too small-minded, because there are always bands that you can't classify exactly because their sound combines several genres. But a very good and informative video !!!👍
I always wish I could have been born in the late 50's - early 60's so that I could have experienced the amazing transition and ever forming music and culture in the late 60's and onward. So many bands I would have loved to see live in their heyday.

Please do more on the music! I just wish I could recommend more newer goth music. Latest release I can think of comes from Lila Ehjä, The KVB and Aural Vampire but I know there has to be a lot more goth getting released outside of the bands I am paying attention to.

Fields of the Nephilim are definitely one of my favourite goth bands because nobody does gothic cowboy and occultism like them.
Well, that's probably the first time I've heard the name "Switchblade Symphony" for probably 20 years. My brother got to see them a few times but I was a bit too young at the time. I did manage to catch Faith and the Muse and... God damn it, I was, like, 10 at the time, I think, so I can't remember who the balls else was there... I think it _might_ have been Front Line Assembly...? I know I saw The Crüxshadows around that time, also, but I can't remember if that was the same show...
Christian Death is also one of my favorite bands from back in the day. The Valor one, specifically. Not the Rozz one. He was a bit of a wanker.
I don't think I saw Rosetta Stone in there anywhere, though, so I'd definitely recommend checking them out. Adrenaline would probably be a good place to start.

Loved Christian Death, 45 Grave, TSOL, Voodoo Church back in the 80s along with hardcore and thrash metal. Death rock never dies.
When talking about proto goth, you can’t not mention all the reggae that heavily influenced early Bauhaus

I also like how Goth lore started out music wise and the Vikings or however long that goes back to but anyways yeah I like how Emo lore started out as a music thing too besides that all getting mixed up and changed till today for some people it's just really weird now when you ask certain people that don't know some type of form of it rather it really mattered to them or not.
Amazing video as always! If you want some coldwave/deathrock check out the album "Nowa Aleksandria" from the polish band Siekiera. One of the best ones in the genre.

Most of the bands that started the Goth subculture were not Goth and hated being called so, which arguably is very Goth of them

Cure did or has made a few songs that appeared very "Goth" or whatever somebody or people were saying even though some have the same soft side spot for liking somethings made like in Korn a bit or in N.I.N. a lot made as their personal favorite but yeah not all are goth bands but have inspired a lot or just interest people that much under what they came from etc.
@@danteshollowedgrounds Goth isn't a music style that is the problem with this video and many others claiming it as such, Goth is an aesthetic, Goth is a mindset and Goth is a lifestyle which is why many different genres of music fall under Goth like darkwave, cyber Goth, post-punk, death rock, EBM, coldwave, minimalistwave, gothic rock, Gothic metal etc. so while I understand your point about the cure never playing a style of music that was "Goth" according to this video they were actually playing Goth music from the onset because they were playing post-punk.
