The boulder itself actually is the enemy, that's why you get runes from it. In addition, if you do this at night, there is an RNG chance that the boulder has the "golden eyes" effect mobs at night can have that give you like 5x the amount of runes it normally drops. So it's worth to do this at night specifically just for the chance at getting a few boosts in runes gained

@@WallyWorld Yep! It's complete rng as far as I can tell, I could also be wrong about the night time thing but for me it happened at night with other enemies too for the glowing/golden eye thing. All that's really known about it thus far is its about 5x the runes you'd normally get, and the enemy hits harder, don't think they are any tankier though

While true are people still using HDD's in 2022 that much? SSD's aren't exactly expensive anymore. 500Gb ones are like 40-50 bucks now or if your really struggling 250gb can be had for like 20-30 although they are terrible value.

FYI, for those sorcerers out there(like me) who lack the STR to wield said heavy/colossal weapons and wondering what you can use, Carian Greatsword spell(and I suppose the Carian Greatsword Ash as well) works tremendously well. Not only does it stagger with each hit, but I learned from this fight that the range each swing has is also absurdly long, so you can easily outrange the melee and get one or two hits in while the caster is still alive. Definitely recommend killing the melee first. Happy rune farming all!
Or you could spend the time to get the Lhutel summon ashes since it’s easily accessible early on as well and gets you close to the Third Church of Marika

The fastest I could perform one run was 33 seconds, using a mount, unequipping to become light load with reward 1952 runes. This includes fast traveling back to the spawn point. It works out to be 3550 runes per minutes as a low level character with no other boosts etc. 212k runes per hour. Thats good enough to get your character to level 30 easily without a heavy grind.
i get 3k+ from each ball, i just farmed the gold fingers item that boosts rune gain, but doing it that way you cannot teleport back, you have to run back otherwise the effect goes away upon teleport.
The “Prayer Room” grace is pretty good farming spot too, you need to get to the haligtree though.
Edit: 12k per run that last about 30-40 seconds if you use a strong weapon, plus another 7k if you kill the clarinrot knight outside the room from where you entered.

You don't need to watch the bolder drop. Just run back to the grace, rest, run back. Make a big circle from the grace, to the bolder, and back. rince and repeat.
I cussed so much at this video for making it seem so easy to get the scarab but then after a few wipes I figured it out and feel much better so thanks!

Running up the mountain with that bridge boss behind you and hitting all the poison traps will cause the boss to die of poison within like 15 seconds.
But u can only do it 1time right ?

Idk, lucky maybe? Worked 1st try for me when I did it. Never touched the boss, just ran through all the poison traps as he follows right behind.
Ok the scarab is so clutch & i thank you for that but im using that to run the other method of killing the vulgars near by they net 1300 each with the scarab & a full run of 19 of em nets you 24k & i did that in 3 minutes 16 seconds .. 72k in 10 minutes thats 432k & hour . if ur wondering im 2 shotting them with the lightning bolt from a distance super fast.
Also to mention with the 2 balls method and the scarab you net 2300 if done right per boulder but if you also do it at night you have a potentiality that one of the balls that spawn is a green eyes and when they die the net about 15000 runes. No cap!

I’m assuming that to be a faith ability, which I haven’t delved too much into during my play through. Been focused on sorceries mostly.

@@MariNate1016 He shows it in the video, that first cave he showed where you have to jump to the entrance. You have to beat the boss at the end.
Use the golden chicken foot along with that talisman for 3000 per run. Only thing is you'll have to ride your horse back to the grace and sit rather than fast travel.
Chicken foot is good, but it only lasts for like 4-5 turns. Than runs out. I think it should last longer. It boosts you from 1960 ish to 2500 ruins a turn.
Riding back to the grace might not be worth it though.
i recommend you bring a heavy swinging weapon and the banished knight. the banished knight can tank, stagger and aggro the magic-user while you take care of the spear knight. you spam light attack until the spear knight dies, your summon should still have comfortable amount of health since he can stagger the boss and you both just gank him

i used the wolves, they held pretty good, one was still alive when I finished with the spear one
The skeletal militia men at base level are easy to get (especially even by accident) and since they keep getting back up they work for bait well. Damage not so much
I constantly forget about the spirit guys you can summon. I've probably made a lot of things in this game way harder than they needed to be by forgetting to summon them.
I found a very late game rune farming spot, sadly its located in a hiden endgame area, but the enemies give 2k runes each kill, around 30k runes per run, theres a lot of enemies very close to the grace, and they literally sit there, waiting to be killed and farmed. This place is great, a teleporter is found on the west side of Haligtree hidden location

The bolder doesn't kill an enemy to get the runes it is the enemy.
Yes the boulder itself gives you about 2k souls per time.
Instead of using that backstep through the rot like shown in the video. Another way would be get a normal dagger nothing special and place 'Bloodhound Step' on the dagger. When you got the dagger out you can spam 'Bloodhound Step' and keep slide around least until you run out of FP. You will make it before the rot meter maxes out.
Also a good way to get some space between you and a boss.
Bloodhounds step is dropped by the Knights Calvary shown at 8:50 he can be easily cheesed if you guide him around the side of the bridge and hop back over it. After 2-3 tried he glitches off the side of the cliff

Talismans is a good tip didn’t know it existed, it takes 52 runs to get a 100k but with the talisman it only takes 43 runs.
I’ll save everyone time the talisman doesn’t give you anymore then if you didn’t have it.
You can get 3045 per boulder if you pop a gold-pickled fowl foot. I had farmed a bunch of materials to make them before seeing your video... So apparently anyone who says otherwise DOES know what they're talking about lol

U should also use the gold pickled foul foot and run back to site of grace rather then fast travel bc if u fast travel with the foul foot it goes away and coast last the 3 mins it's supposed to last n u'll get an extra 20 or 30% rune acquisition
1. The boulder doesn't hit an enemy, it is the enemy. It dies when it falls off the cliff and that's how you get the runes.
2. You do not have to stare at it when it falls. Offscreen enemy deaths still give runes. This is no different.
3. Facing the camera backward on your first attempt is not necessary. You will see the flash of light while facing forward that tells you to turn and get behind the boulder.
4. Getting back to the grace site fast is kinda important as it maximizes your runes per minute. The moment you hear the enemy death sound, hit the map screen and warp back to the grace.
Hey Man U don’t have to fast travel u could just rest and it resets it and he also use a thing that give more runes so that u get 50% more runes that thing that u use it a consumable item that give 20% or 30% more runes for a period of time so you might be able to and the second boulder gives about like 9500 runes on no buffs and it works only at night time
If there was a way to obtain an ungodly amount of the golden pickled foul foot, which increases money gain, that would increase gains by 30% but I don’t know if there is an easy way to farm them other then crafting material’s.

The Knight on the bridge is an easy 40k exp, from the grace point ride across the bridge and draw him up the hill to the right, You will get poisoned but so will he, Need to keep him following you to the top and he will just die.

By y'all's numbers, that would mean the scarab gives 30% gains across the board. That's a significant increase. Plus, I have the thingy that gives you extra runes from the character build menu. I don't know the % gain yet, but I'll see if I can figure it out tonight.

Use the "gold pickled fowl foot" with the scarab and you get over 3000 per boulder run. You CANNOT fast travel though or it will debuff you. Just race torrent up the hill jump off at full gallop and rest.
So basically let the boulder go off cliff and kill ur self ? So u don’t debuff

@@LuvTipsy No because that teleports you back to the grace. You cannot travel at all. Ride back to the grace (takes 2 seconds) and hit rest to reset the boulder and thats it.
You don't need to see the bolder fall, as soon you see the spawn flash of this bolder, turn right and follow the ledge up to the tree, bolder goes of the ledge and the runes wil come in anyhow.
I just been farming the Vulgar Militiamen outside the beastial clergymans temple with the longbow. Been pulling a good amount of ruins to get started. At level 48 in about 18 hours of play.
I’d say do the knight glitch with the poison, then use that 42000 runes to boost damage THEN do your method. You can start a new character and get them to 50 VERY fast

Some might say, when you get to lvl 60 and up, this farm is useless. Well I just hit lvl 60 today and went up an extra 8 lvl's in less than 30 mintues. Good thing I put 5 hours in this game a day. Normally I make around 150k an hour not 350k like the video. So overall I make sure to make 500k a day. That is still very good if you're at a high lvl.
Then I have the rest of my hours to play a different game or just explore the map in general. This farm is very manageable, well for me that is lol
I was able to get each run down to 20 seconds which works out to be 350k runes per hour. This is with everything unequipped, hot key Torrent, holding shift key for Torrent to fast gallop, small wait for runes and then quick keys to teleport back,includes loading time screen which might vary for each laptop/pc. I didnt have any run buffs (new character with torrent can do this) but 20% extra runs with a talisman is better again.
Now here's what's interesting about this, programatically speeking :
There is no mob that the boulder kills. the boulder just dies because that area is considered an instant death area (Like water, and long distances). The boulder, when aimed towards terrain, it just disapears, but doesnt give Runes. I think the game thinks the boulder dies when it goes down there and just give us an amount of Runes.
Nah, the boulder is an actual enemy. Appears a couple of times in the game, chases you around like a mad dog, too.
If the Boulder hits the pillar, I've found it gives runes more often than not
Gotta say that if your having a tough time with double bosses like this go get the Banished Knight Oleg spirit. Mine is upgraded to +3 and completely soloed the caster knight while I took out the melee one. He's an amazing summon!!

@@tyham2493 do you have enough FP? He's strong but costs a lot of FO to summon compared to regular spirits.
Pretty good at level one to power level to about 50 or 60 In a couple hours. Beyond that though this gets REAL slow once you need 20k+ runes to get a single level. Other ways to maximize this run are to collect all the glintstone fireflys and faded erdleaf that's just in your way. Also golden runes (1) spawn fairly regularly. Also also, doing this at night has a chance of spawning rare boulders that drop between 9-10k.
As for if you should do the second boulder or not. First of all the second boulder is actually easier to get consistent compared to boulder 1. Just run around the tree by the cliff and swing the camera around to watch if go off, you don't even need to slow down. Just run straight to and around the tree. I think the main reason to do boulder 2 is to double your chance of getting rare spawn boulders. Either way, like you said, it doesn't really take any extra time to do both so why not?
this is probably one of the better earlier game ways, once you get towards the end game ive been able to make from 120,000 every 2 minutes by using a glitch to around 700,000 or more every 2 minutes using the relic sword and killing a bunch of enemies in mogwyn i
btw if yawl look up how to do varre's quest and go directly left and up the road there is a grace at the top and you will see a bunch of albinerichs wich give 2,000 runes each on ng1 and only have 1,000 -2,000 health depending on if there red or not
Tip for you! The black cloaked horse rider on the bridge at night… agro him so he follows you and go up that hill you were coming down… a bunch of little poison bombs will explode as your ride over them. The time for the poison to pop you’ll be safe, but that dude gets killed pretty quick! And he drops I think like 40k runes or something!
It's a great early rune farm. Just put on Netflix or whatever because it will get boring fast.
I was doing this ok until I did it at the wrong angle and whatever it killed gave me 9000 without the talisman, was about 2000ish normally.
If you have access to Deeproot Depths, there is another rune farm at The Nameless Eternal City. Just jump onto the roofs to the east of the grace site and kill the gargoyle with glintstone pebbles. With Gold Scarab equipped the reward is 4k+ runes.
If you take the Calvary knight back up the path behind you you can poison him, I killed him without laying 1 hit on him, just be careful to not poison yourself

There’s a 2nd bolder not very much farther down the hill. If you do it at night there’s a possibility for a special bolder that gives 5x.
My "exploit" is killing the nightmare version of Thomas the train at caelem ruins, sneak behind them (3 of them) with a good weapon and the golden scarab, that's 6000 runes a minute, so 360,000 an hour.
I tried the ball method with the scarab , I only farm 4600 a minute, which comes out to 276,000 runes per hour.
They're both good but the ball one can be tricky if you don't dodge the ball on time.

If you go a bit further down the path before turning the cut from the boulder, it gives ALOT more runes. I got 9k each time. It is a lot more precise though.

You don't have to see it fall, you just have to be within a certain distance of the edge. Watching it does help, because it HAS to fall. If it doesn't get over the cliff edge, you don't get the runes. WHERE you have to be to get the runes is a pretty small place
I think farming the Erdtree guardians at Dragonbarrow Fork gets you way more faster, but you do have to fight stuff. its more fun too.
You can cheese the Calvary Knight on the bridge and get 42000 runes from him. He only spawns at night and you can bait him to fall off the cliff next to the bridge entrance.

There is no particular grace spot to get your horse. It's the 5th site after you enter into the world. Doesn't matter which spot, it's which numbered spot.
What? You literally get it from the lady. Then the other lady will take you to roundtable. You don't even have to get to a 5th site
@@stompingpeak2043 I've watched 3 different videos on getting the horse. And all 3 went to different spots and swore that was the correct areas. So I followed what they did and neither worked at all. Then I went somewhere completely different and it was my 5th grace. And 💥 it popped up lol
I don't think you should really call this an "exploit" because there is a ghost horse that shows you to do this, minus the fast travel and repeat part, lol I'd just say a secret xp cheese

If they didn’t screw players over with tiny amounts of Xp when you actually need 10 times the amounts given more players could actually play the game and level up and enjoy the game and not have to find ways to get Xp because everything is behind the Xp/ability wall Stats matter here by design and the wall will make everyone look for a loop hole or 2
The game is perfectly enjoyable to most players without farming
running the knight through the poison mines can earn you 60k ruins in less than a minute
I had no idea these enemies were higher level. I ended up using the battle hammer I leveled it up to +3 so it's the only thing that actually did good damage to them even tho my katana is +7 it didn't do nearly as much damage as my +3 battle hammer. Stagger must be way better then slice damage.
Stagger wins when dealing with tough humanoids, but even then, a slicing weapon that staggers will do good vs certain enemies, like ultra swords or great swords. Some enemies are weaker to blunt weapons

Go back to Church of Elleh near the start to unlock summoning, which will obviously make all the bosses far easier. You can summon using Ashes in pretty much every boss area.
You can get about 500k an hour there is a second Boulder just down that hill for not much extra time
The content creator that said that is faster is click baiting. If you do both boulders it comes out to the exact same amount of runes per time as doing one single boulders, which is around 280k per hour without the golden scarab and 350k with the golden scarab.
Do it at night there’s a chance a bolder spawns that gives you 9000+
There’s a better spot in mohgwyns palace, for me with a scarab and a good aoe kit I can farm upwards of three million an hour
If you get to the horse Bose on the bridge you can actually have him chase you up the path with the poison traps and he will die make sure you don’t press square to much or he will deagro and stop chasing you but it’s an easy kill
The traps aren’t enough to kill you at all

Works for me still on PC. Just have to make sure your camera is still towards the boulder as it falls.
You don't have to fight the black knight was simply running up the hill through the poison and make a left and by the time you get to the flat area to your left he will die.
If you the first one right it will give you over 9k …I have only made it happen 2 times but it seems it has to be in a really specific path or it has to crush a skull bone that spawns idk I haven’t figured out why I got the 9k + sometimes
The gold picked fowl foot would've gotten you to around 500k the bonus from the consumable is a 30% bonus compared to the 20% you get from the talisman. So the ppl claiming more runes per hour had a 50% bonus.
only lasts as long as you dont rest, or a certain time. fast traveling counts as a rest and therefore removes the buff, just tested this to see if i could use this instead of having the scarab
You need to see the boulder fall otherwise no reward. A more interesting place is the area North of Farum Greatbridge, you can ride around slashing the little guys with a blade. They may be small but they're mean fighters.
That's weird I never turn around and watch the boulder fall off the cliff and I get the reward every time.
The ball method is so inconsistent, sometimes it does sometimes it just vanishes. Had a good 20k run now it just doesn't do shit

Are you looking at it as it falls off the edge? If I don’t look at the boulder when it falls I don’t get any runes, but as long as your camera is facing it you should be fine. Was able to make 500k

To make the manoeuvre easier, here's the thing : once the boulder pops, dismount , look at it, guard with ur shield, and take it like a man, or woman, whatever suits you.

Doing this at night has a chance to spawn a Fancy Boulder that gives you 9k instead of 2k it's crazy rare but it's possible.
You don’t have to bother staring at it. If it hits the wall it dies as well just spam map button after it charges then fast travel! :)
200,000 is realistic at rotview balcony if you have rock slinger and the meteorite staff...I can do about 3500 per minute or less on average just killing those two birds without the talisman. I started playing on thursday...Im level 76 now (saturday) with about 18 hrs total play.
I was only using Golden feet which gives around 2530 each time.
When you get a good timing, it racks up quite fast.

@3:40 you're doing a maneuver I have never seen in the game. How do you back step on PC?!? Yes, when you are fighting and locked on a target, pressing S key backs you up while facing your enemy. But when out of combat, S always seems to turn you around and face the camera running forwards. Out of combat I have never found anything I change in camera settings or auto target lock that changes this.
There is a better farm if you find your way to mohgwyn dynasty area. Easily 2.5 mill per hour if you have the right setup with the gold scarab and gold pickled fowl foot. My suggestion bring a weapon that has a good aoe and bring a great bow.
The giant bird exploit is much much more than this at 17k per kill and takes 15 seconds max. Just need arrows or long range weapon
Don't forget to use a gold finger fowled foot to boost the runes even more
Pro tip, assign mount to square and instead of moving out of the way, just dismount right before you get hit. Dismounting gives invincibility, aka an iFrame.
Also as others have said, the boulder dies and gives the runes, so calling this an exploit is inaccurate. They gave that boulder a rune reward (all boulders like this one), so you're just using game mechanics.
With the ps5 it takes about 10-15 seconds to make 2k for the metal ball method
I found a 3 mill per hour farm but you need to pull over 1.2 k damage with a backstab

@@radegundogundo4777 The settings are specific to each pc and the map must be aligned for teleportation. If you want to make one, ahk and python both work well, but it does take a while to manually input all the movement values correctly.

I lost 8k Runes today 🙃 Has anyone else loss more?
Lol I literally lost 100k plus earlier. I was fighting a boss died, and came back and forgot to get my rune pick up. Then when I died I realized that it was still sitting in a corner. Thats like 6-7 levels I threw down the drain 😔

Bro if you let the boulder fall a little further down there’s a slight chance to get 9k from an enemy it just has to fall not to much further past the pillar
The twinned armour is better than the briar set. Especially on a dex/vigor samurai
One thing thought...This is not an exploit. You're killing the actual beast. That BALL IS the Beast. Just saying so people don't actually think this is an exploit. Also, if you run past that Knight on the bridge, run through the poison mines (keeping him close) and he will die from the poison clouds you leave behind and get a ton of Runes. Though, he does NOT respawn once you've defeated him. Unlike the "boulder beast."
