I appreciate your business!
My two son's put their money together and bought me a Timex Expedition which looks similar to the Hamilton Khaki and presented to me on Father's day- that watch is now worth more too me than all my other watches. They wanted to get me the Hamiliton version but they didn't have quite the money for it. For me, it is a priceless gift from both of my sons and is my everyday wear from this point on.
Nice gift! How is it holding up, built wise?
@@haimo14228 the watch is a keeper and a daily wear- I just had a bit of issue with the strap- the spring bar holes on the lugs are set in close to the case which makes the strap either to loose or too tight. Finding the right strap was a big challenge- I ended up using an adjustable velcro Nato strap.
An expedition is about 40 dollars. The Hamilton is on another level and I highly recommend saving the funds to experience it.
I just got mine and been wearing it for past few days. Learning how to wind Mechanical watch for the first time. It’s an awesome watch and good looking. I am deaf and cannot hear it ticking so it’s no problem for me. Although I do wish I could hear it.
@Kylen Mason Your right- no one cares!
Excellent watch i think... wear it in good health.
But I think you can feel it ticking!
Sorry to be so off topic but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account..?
I stupidly forgot the login password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Hassan Harrison I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im trying it out atm.
I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Just placed my order for this watch on Friday. Hope it lasts as long as my father's Hamilton 4992B pocket watch from 1944 which still runs flawlessly, +1 second a day, not bad for 77 years old.
You should be fine as long as you’re not intentionally rubbing it against sharp rocks lmao
How has it been
@@Uaeboravisma it's a great time piece, haven't had one issue with it since receiving it. It was actually on my for the last week.
Just received the Hamilton Khaki hand wound with a black face and very pleased at the moment of unboxing it. This is a precision Swiss made engineering marvel. Very happy to be able to own one without ruining my kids college funds.
Best videos ever! Wanted to find a review on this watch about its hacking seconds and this is the only video that states it!
Thanks Teddy!
I owned Speedmasters Tudor watches Bell Ross ect. On a whim I picked up A 38 mm Khaki on steel band . light comfortable easy to read without glasses lol. Great watch has not been off my wrist wind it every few days good to go. Learned a lesson in life the amount money spent on a watch does not equal satisfaction or enjoyment
I keep wearing wine despite having more expensive and flashier watches also. Its so accurate, slim ,legible and comfortable its also not too expensive to risk damage.
Teddy, this video inspired me to buy this exact watch for a casual day piece. Thanks for the recommendation - I really enjoy and value your insights.
I am currently wearing one of the progenitors for this watch being the MIL-W-46374B General Purpose Military watch that I had issued to me from the Marine Corps in 1983. Loving every minute having it on my wrist.
I just looked at one of these on eBay, same year too! Wishing I had the cash!
I love the styling, I've rocked a timex expedition as my field watch of choice which is a very similar design (went through AIT, several fields and a deployment with it).
This will definitely be a watch I have to pickup for a daily wearer, especially with an 80hr power reserve it'd be perfect for a regular work week.
i got one almost identical to the one you are showing about two years ago. love it and it is still running like brand new.
I'm wearing mine right now, I love wearing it, especially with the strap it comes on!
Swatch group provides the best value in virtually every price range thanks to cheap access to ETA movements. One can build any collection just from their watches alone. Love the Khaki Field!
Bought mine two months ago. Love the watch - disappointed in the plastic-feeling strap. Solved that by getting a nice canvas khaki-green NATO. Perfect.
I own it. Love it. Mine is the pre H50 and I specifically sought that movement for the 4hz sweep.
What reference do you have?
This was my first mechanical watch...Love this watch.
I have the Khaki Automatic and it never leaves my wrist. My everyday driver, allowing me to wear my nicer watches for special occasions. Very comfortable, very accurate.
How do you feel wearing it while swimming? I love how rugged it is, and want to make it my travel watch.
@@ImportantComment 50m water resistance indicates that you actually shouldnt really swim with it.. but many comments here state that they did swim with it and it is still going well.. so i would say it is own risk..
Just bought one with the brown dial and faux loom can't wait for it to get here 🤗 great review Teddy 👍
This is my second comment post. Have had this watch for 8 months and so glad to have it. Keeps on working great and looks great.
does it still work?
@@euxer Better than ever
Holy cow! I just bought this watch and exactly 1 year ago I was doing research on this watch and made a comment here! About time!!!
I have just started collecting watches and have already decided that this is my next one. Stunning watch.
I just got mine a week ago...and haven't been able to take it off yet 🙃
@@mrbubbles293 That's so cool. This will be my first Swiss made automatic and it feels like a good start. I want the 38mm automatic with the leather strap. It retails from £4-450 in the UK. Placing an order next month and can't wait. How have you found the reaction from friends and family? It's hard to explain to non watch people why a not so flashy Gucci or Armani is so pricey haha
@@raykay91 It's such a great watch, you'll love it even more once you've got it. And as far as my friends and family, well the only person who would really appreciate it is my father but he's no longer with us unfortunately...but my girlfriend and my brother like it and they somewhat know the value of it also. Haha :) Gucci and such is not allowed in my house 😅
Great reviews... I enjoy watching your videos. I was wondering if yiu have considerd create a video discussing watches to use with motorbikes. In the video you could look at watches by three price point for 3 or 4 motorbike styles ( cruiser, off road, etc)
I just ordered it, and I bought the 40mm automatic version like one week ago… I think the mechanical version has a timeless charm to it!
Another comment from me. It’s been over a year and the watch is still working like a dream. Will make another comment in year 2023 which will probably be another positive experience.
Great review. I’ll have to take a closer look at this brand.
Nice Review Good Watch
Keep up the amazing content you giving us
I definitely love my Khaki Field Mechanical! Just a GREAT watch for the money.
Hamilton is one of my altime favourite brands. I bought my second one last week.
I bought this watch in spring and love it! It’s a strap monster indeed, but this watch married to my MN strap now.
What size of strap to buy? 20mm? Mines on the way
I took a chance on this watch even after seeing many reviews indicating poor quality with watches breaking when turning crown snapping main spring. But I have mine for a year now wearing it nearly every day love it and no issues so far . It kept excellent time for about 8 months (-2/-6) then was all over the place and now seems to have settled at -8 ... I lose about a minute a week on this watch which is good for my standards . Over I would still consider getting this watch a hit and miss proposition from what I have seen on reviews but the overall size dimensions and look pushed me to get it and I am glad I did.
I’ve recently noticed that if the watch is left resting unused and unwound for a couple of weeks, the timekeeping can sometimes be different when I start using it again. For example a 2801-2 movement I have was a steady -1-2 sec per day for several months. After a break it is now on +2.
@@vitaboost Yes that’s right. In my case, all other things being equal (ie. resting position) the timekeeping accuracy can change after a period of non-use.
I have the white dial version as well. Easily one of my favorite watches
I bought this for my first watch in 11th grade. But I actually managed to pick it up for $420 and saw it selling for 350 a while ago, really good value.
love the sound of winding mine. just needed a new strap ; )
I got the white dial version and I love it
Great video Teddy. On the next videos, could you please show the watch on your wrist, too? It will be good reference for people who have smaller wrists.
Bought a used one today. 5 months old, non h-50 and only for 300€. I think it’s a steal
Very thorough review sir... this may indeed be the 'gateway drug' for me into this horology hobby. Salute!
Did I miss a bunch of videos in the recent past or are very active at the moment. Nevertheless, I always enjoy your reviews.
My experience of owning both colours - 6.5 inch wrist - the black definitely looks better, the white looks a bit too much watch face in comparison on a thin wrist.
I'm wearing my brown dial one now - perhaps splitting the difference between those 2.
Best watch guy on UA-cam
my dream watch
I bought one when I was stationed at Camp Pendleton in 1980. The crystal is cracked, the luminescence died yesrs ago, and it has had many bands since new.
However, it works and is still worn. Just because it is cracked, I got a modern battery powered Timex that tries to look like the Hamilton. I paid about $50 or so for the Timex. The Hamilton new was $35 if I recall.
The lesson learned? I love mechanical watches because they work. Batteries die when needed most. Also, a $500 watch? Not for this old Marine. Inflation and off shoring our jobs by crooked politicians destroyed manufacturing. No more cheap mechanical watches. Hell, I remember my Dad buying me a $4 pocket watch when I was 7. It was crap by today's standard, but I still have it and it works.
Great video. Enjoyed the level of detail. Thanks.
You sound way older than you actually are if I had to guess lol
I’m wearing mine right now. Mine arrived this week thanks to the Black Friday sales.
i'm curious how much you have paid .. Could you please let's know? Thanks!
@@datbui5863 £395rrp and I got 20% off that. Plus an additional discount through my employer.
These watches are worthless piles of excretment.
@@clegsmegson2627 then they’re a perfect fit for me. Thanks.
@@nkonig1 They surely are for poor people.
Can you do a video where you compare the Hamilton khaki field mechanical vs automatic please, thank you
Great video Teddy of an Icon. This was my first real watch, first Swiss Made watch and my first of what has become my interest in watches and that is manual wound. Call me old fashion but I actually look forward to winding my watch every day and the Hamilton has IMHO the best crown for hand winding on the market. I prefer the first gen with the ETA 2801-2 because I prefer a high beat. I only wish that it was a 36mm with a 45mm lug to lug because the current 38mm X47mm just wears big to me and I have a 7 inch wrist. Thanks again, Brian.
This MWC is 36.5, almost half the price, and quite the looker and performer...
mwcwatches.com/collections/classic-range/products/copy-of-mwc-1940s-1950s-pattern-general-service-watch-with-24-jewel-automatic-movement
I was going to get this watch based on your review, but I’ve been reading about a lot of H-50 failures from a ton of unhappy customers.
Great review and detail. So this version has to be wound "no battery", while the auto also has no battery but does not require to be wound up after the initial setup? thx
I love this watch, will get it with discount for 430$...! Perfect for me, style wise I can wear this with T-shirt and/or flannel or plaid shirt.
Love this watch!
What camera/lens did you use to film this? It's incredibly sharp/good looking. In 4K obviously.
Definitely on my bucket list. Hard to argue with the value proposition. Perhaps higher water resistance but still very good value.
That’s the stumbling block for me too .
@@leemartin2978 It's a good question as to how much water resistance a field watch should have. My view is 100m as a minimum. I still like this watch though.
Check out the Smiths PRS29. I have this Hamilton as well, but the Smiths outperforms it in most categories (including better water resistance) for only $50 more.
I know these videos are, at their heart, commercials. But they’re well done and I enjoy these deeper examinations.
I have to say I enjoyed them more, and gave them more credibility, before Teddy started selling what he's reviewing. I still admire the high production values, but now it just seems like any other slick watch ad, because that's what it really is. Pity Teddy couldn't find a different way to monetize his internet presence, since he's a sharp writer and excellent presenter, and before he was a salesman, he raised the standard of online UA-cam content creators. I do wish him every success, but I don't pounce on his review videos like I did before.
The lug to lug kills it for me. If you install a 2 piece band it leaves large gaps between the band / watch. This watch works well with a bracelet / NATO imo.
Hey Teddy! Can you please make a video comparing Hamilton khakhi with the smiths field watch? I am confused between two! Which one do you recommend?
Ive been looking at the auto titanium version for about 950 is this still a good deal? Im new to watches but i love the look of the hamiltons and i want it to match the rest of my edc gear being titanium
Just bought one today! Went with the white dial though
I have the brown dial and brown case. They look sensational on a variety of nato straps. I’m probably gonna get the black dial and black case next.
Did you ever end up getting the black dial as well? I’m trying to decide between the brown and black dial versions and any feedback might help. Thanks
@@mrautomatech2329 nah I never got it. My advice would be to get the black one.
What, in your view, is the most affordable, most durable ETA 2824-2? Linjer?
Hi Tedy, I have this khaki model brand new, I have a question, when I wind the crown and not fill it to the maximum it returns about 30°, is this normal? or should I be worried?
Teddy, what’s your choice - Hamilton or Traser? With 500 usd budget
Nice choice but I prefer my glycine combat sub. 2 different versions
I love your shirt.
Great video
Just bought one today.
Alrighty then. I've just ordered one !
Thank you
I am in Australia - so can’t buy from TB it seems.
How can you tell whether a dealer is authorised or not?
Anyone had issues with this watch? I’ve seen lots of reviews of a problem with the mainspring and ratchet wheel with the H-50 movement.
Hamilton has now a metal bracelet version of this watch in Switzerland but I don't see it in US store.
I don’t think it suits a bracelet at all. Also I don’t like the bracelet, how the centre links are divided. It’s the same as the automatic version but I think it’ll have a brushed or blasted finish.
I love this watch 🥺 for me the best !
Thank you for the video! Please does anybody know what is the dial size of this watch? I guess it should be about 30 mm ? Thank you.
I have the white dial version and love it! Outstanding quality.
Me too, I love mine as well. This was the first "quality" watch that I bought.
Steve Dave as someone with old eyes is the white dial easier to read as far as date goes I usually can't read it anyway
@@marcjohnson4385 no date window.
What do you think about the automatic?
How do you know when it’s fully wound? Can watches be overwound?
I'll stay with my Khaki King 🤷. Still a very nice watch
Great looking watch ...but decided to pull the trigger on a black case, black dial version ......stainless case version has just so many similar, inferior lookalikes....just need a vintage leather strap now....
May follow the Seamaster in my collection 😮💨
SEAMASTER is a beautiful watch
looking for a hiking watch. Between this and the Seiko alpinist SARB017
I likes this watch so much, I bought another one.
Teddy, could you do a video on H-50 movement and speak about reports of breaking…seems like people over wound their watches but blame Hamilton. Thoughts?
I’m really intrigued on the Khaki field models, but can’t really decide what model i want. I really like the classic design on the mechanical, which is very true to the originals, but i can’t help but feel that the Automatic is superior and it’s in almost the same price-range too. The lugs on the mechanical seems like a bit of trouble when switching straps. Great video, as always!
Hand wound is a better choice for a rough active watch, less wear and tear from a rotor spinning around unnecessarily. Did you make a choice in the end?
@@dustycups I haven't bought one, no. I bought a Seiko a few months ago but i'm still considering the Hamilton. I also watched a video where you could see the lugs are quite large on it, and i have small wrists myself. I'm going to see if i can find it in a store so i can see it in person before i decide.
@@dustycupsis it true what you saying that mechanical watches are tougher and have less wear than the automatic ones? I’m so in love with this watch but the durability is questionable still in my mind especially considering the 5ATM water resistance…what’s your opinion on that…
@@evangelosstamatakis2559 No rotor means fewer moving parts, so yes there will be less wear, less metal dust generated in the movement and fewer things to break. However perhaps adjust your expectations with a mechanical/automatic watch... none of them are actually tough, no matter what the marketing says. If you drop it it will probably break something. I've noticed a lot of reviewers go on about how the original Hamilton's were tough military watches. They were actually very much built to a price point, simple, and somewhat disposable, rather than made tough to survive everything. They moved to quartz as soon as they could.
I wouldn't worry too much about the 5ATM water resistance. It will be perfectly fine for everyday life, splashing around and the the odd immersion. If you're going swimming it's best to take it off.
@@dustycups thank you so much for your quick response!! Just the answer I needed…! I’m just gonna take it…at the end of the day it’s what your heart desires when it comes to watches!!
Is there a benefit to the H50 caliber over the ETA? I really am trying to get my hands on one of these and the ETA is definitely a little harder to find. I really like how the ETA beats at 28,800 bph, but I also have heard the H50 is a more updated movement technology. Trying to figure out what to go with.
more power reserve on H50 because of lower beat. second hand looks smother on eta with 4hz / 3hz. mine H50 currently running +2.5s/d. if it can hold this for a longer time, then the H50 is pretty accurate
I just got mine , the limited addition (titanium).
Love my Hamiltons.
Which model number is this specifically? (So many minor variations and model numbers!)
Can't decide between this and the seiko alpinist...
Where can I get that green nato?
What's the difference between this and the H69429931?
Well done.
I wish they had a smaller version for people with very skinny wrists like myself
Loving mine . Im not so sure about the 80 hour power reserve. Its only stoped once I've had it about a month. To me its simplicity is elegant and the hand wind function adds to the relationship between man and tool.
Planning to get one as my gateway into mechanical watches, coming from a casio sgw100 digital. Hand winding aspect of it just get me excited and fascinated with watches again
How old? I bought mine when they where transitioning engines, I have the 42 hour version (my preference actually)
No doubt the best
Teddy please do a review on interesting Hamilton Khaki Pilot Pioneer Mechanical.
I've got one, very nice watch and excellent bracelet for the price
Opps no mine is the Hamilton Khaki Aviation Pilot Pioneer Auto
did you hire a hand model teddy? i thought your wrist size is 6.5",
I have this watch. The biggest compliment I can give it is that I also have numerous Patek and Rolex pieces. It gets more wrist time.
i had that one and love that watch, but i sold it..it doesn't look and feel good on smaller wrist.
I’m used to divers but this one looks nice. Could anyone describe how this would feel different than what I’m used to?
One major difference I find between this watch and a diver's watch is the thickness of the watch. This Khaki Mechanical is much more thinner compared to say, a Seiko diver. This makes it much easier for the watch to slip under the sleeves.
does anyone have any experience with the khaki field mechanical long term? Im on the fence on purchasing because i've seen many on reddit talking about the hand-winding breaking
Can’t make my choice between this one and the Khaki automatic 38mm.
Just got mine the brown pvd from jomashop very good for the price definitely a keeper in my collection.
I just got the same one in Jomashop for 320. How much did yours cost?
Does that watch really can handle during war?
