You the TRUE MVP!
Thanks
You save me 4 mins , thanks
I read this too late. What the hell? Is this a knife vid, a water bottle vid or a watch vid? I am so confused.
I wear my Hamilton Khaki automatic to work fairly often. I'm a farmer and I can't say enough about the durability and reliability of the Hamilton. Great watch and great video my man.
So the automatic really can be worn when outdoors doing work? Is it durable enough to knock into things at all?
do you have fogging issues with that watch? Because I kept reading Hamilton watches have fogging issues....
Probably the best content yet by you, Sir. I enjoyed the quick EDC layout as I subscribe to the same philosophy. So much to appreciate about the Hamilton mechanical, automatic, and even the quartz - naturally, I want them all.
They are quite addictive indeed!
@@thetimeteller every time I'm on the Hamilton website, there are about 15 watches I'm drooling over. Their line just has that 1940's vintage vibe that I love. I'd like to get another Hamilton with my next purchase but I'm also eyeing a Laco Aachen 42mm and the Dan Henry 1939 chronograph.
Great vid Jory! I recently pulled the trigger on the 40mm auto version. It packs the same H10 movement as the 42mm. 80hr power reserve and so far accurate to within 2 seconds a day. I'm loving it.
Enjoyed seeing this side of you. Love the outdoors, the hills, the Jeep, the edc, etc. of course the review was great too.
I have the Hamilton Khaki Mechanical officer 44mm manual winding watch n just like what u have said, it’s a perfect everyday watch!
I’d agree with your choice Jory, because I did! I was all set to drop the bomb on the Auto, then they announced the new face-lifted version of the mechanical and I immediately ordered that instead! I love my little mechanical khaki field, can’t see it ever leaving my collection, it’s a keeper. Best regards from the UK, Dazza 🇬🇧
Khaki Field Automatic (42mm) all day long!
It’s already reserved in one of my local jewelry store and can’t wait to have it on my wrist!
Thanks for your insight and thanks for your review (even 3 years later, this watch ticks all the boxes).
Dude! Awesome to see you in an environment outside of the office! To be honest, it would be awesome if you kept doing this type of video for divers, dress watches, etc. Great stuff!
I just got the Hamilton Khaki 38 Auto and it is Fantastic, keeping time like a COSC certified watch at less than 1 sec + a day! Unbelievable
I’ve had it for 2 weeks. Very Happy with this one Jori
I’ve had my for 6 days so far and am at +4 seconds since I first set it. A great start, hoping it keeps this up
I own the Automatic. Just took it in for repair (mainspring) this year after 12 years of rugged service. I also own an auto Seiko 5 Sports blue, an auto Seiko Presage brown sunburst and several others ranging from a 16 dollar Casio digital classic to a Braun classic (quartz). The Hamilton was my first dive down into the the rabbit hole of collectors watches, and I still admire it.
Thank you for a great video. I have been back and foward on which Hamilton to go for, but after this video decision is made. 42 MM Khaki Field. Thank you for helping me out
My Hamilton field auto is a 38mm version of your 42mm with the new H-40 modified ETA movement which is a lower bpm but excellent power reserve.
Just decided on this 38mm model, I am loving my Alpinist but would love a Hammy in my collection
What is model name?
@@cambaz4387Kahki Field Auto 38mm. I have model # H70515137 which has the stainless bracelet. Whereas, model # H70455733 comes on a black leather strap with white contrast stitching and "H" signed buckle.
As always an entertaining video. Both great watches, but I went with the khaki field quartz in PVD. The 40mm case size is a sweet spot for me, and I love the option of PVD. I agree with your knife philosophy. Always carry a sharp blade and an utility knife. 🤙
My 42mm auto is my favorite watch! Couldn't warm up to the steel bracelet so I put on a Barton elite silicone strap and it's amazing. Mine runs at about +2 a WEEK if I wear it everyday. Great watch!
The automatics don’t require winding so the gaskets last longer preserving watch resistance. The mechanicals are cool too though.
I bought the automatic for my nephew for his senior hs graduation in May.
Same reasoning; while I loved the profile of the fields mechanical much better, I bought him the other because it's more versatile as a dress watch he could also wear to interviews. I actually bought him the Khaki King as it's a bit smaller at 40mm, has a threaded crown and I love the day+date detail
I don't think the crown is threaded on that watch.
as far as im aware theres not khaki king with threaded crown
Field Mechanical is popular for a reason. Funny, I'm wearing one as I'm watching your video. A rugged truck, beautiful open space in the country, and beautiful watch... life can't get better than this. Envy you, bro~
I've got the Khaki Field 40mm Old Paper Dial. Love it. My favorite watch.
Another great vid ! I’m hoping to add the 38mm auto to my collection one day, just love the look of them. I’m picking up an snk809 soon which is fairly close to the mechanical.
I have both the Seiko SNK 809 and the Hamilton Khaki Automatic, and both are a terrific value for the money. Truth be told, I find myself gravitating toward the Hamilton more and more frequently when it's time to decide what to wear on a given day. My "collection" consists of fourteen timepieces that I have researched thoroughly before buying, and I am happy with all of them. "Collection" is in quotes because the most expensive watch I own was only two thousand dollars, and was a gift from a woman in China. Perhaps some day I will be in a position to afford a Rolex (in which case I would buy something else; never found Rolex watches all that exciting), but until then, I'll continue to shop for bargains, and the Hamilton Khaki Automatic is just such a watch.
I use a Seiko solar diver (black series) for my field watch. I find a timer very helpful for a variety of tasks and the size helps legibility when riding a motorcycle, because that's what I'm usually on.
Man, I didn’t think I would like that 38mm hand wind on an 8” wrist but it’s perfect. Slips under my sleeve perfectly, I usually start at 40mm however I absolutely love the feel of it, I almost forget that I’m wearing it. I have actually forgotten it’s on my wrist. At 9.5mm it’s so slim, I like winding it in the morning, there’s something about the tactile sense with it. Everything else I have is automatic, definitely changed my thoughts on mechanical pieces.
I’m wearing my Khaki King with the champagne dial at the moment! I love this watch!!
Tough choice! I like to have a date on my field watch because I lose track of days easily when I’m camping/canoeing. Plus better WR points me to the auto. Love both.
How funny that I was looking at the automatic earlier today and here you are doing a video about it! This helped me make my decision! Thanks!
Enjoy bro! It was meant to be!
Nice to see you out of the office, Jory! Great video, keep em coming!
Love the content.. My very 1st watch to start my auto collect was the 42mm Hammy Khaki, I lucked out & picked up the buttery smooth ETA 2824-2 Hamilton’s older model, buuuut it only has 38hr pr, which I would rather have the higher vibrations @ the expense of run time.. but that darn polished bezel & super reflective sapph crystal is where I feel the contingency stands😒.. as always Awesome Review Mr. Teller
Thank you so much for your detailed review. I want to buy a Hamilton for my husband as a birthday present, and your comments on spending time with your watch and having different watches for different occasions vs one watch for all occasions really helped me choose the mechanical option for him. I will put an fancy auto on the bucket list for another birthday or anniversary- this man can not have enough watches or knives! Thanks!
Hello! 🎉 just wanna ask how is your husband’s Hamilton coming along, for like 2 years now? 😊 does the Hamilton hold to its promise? I’m on the market for a Hamilton you see. Thanks! 🫡
Jory your videos keep getting better and better. Love the outdoor filming!
Thanks bro!
Picked the 42 Automatic in St Martin over the summer. One of my favorites, gets lots of wrist time. May have to look into the Mechanical though, really love the look.
Jory you're a legend!! Love the channel and keep posting!
Any difference in durability/ service intervals for mechanical vs automatic watches?
In this case, I would go for the mechanical version. I have not had a mechanical hand winding since I had a basic Timex watch as a child.
I have the 38mm khaki automatic and find it to be a perfect travel watch since I don’t require a gmt complication. Took it on a recent out of country adventure where 50% was spent in cosmopolitan areas and 50% hiking/nature. It works with both blazers and loafers vs backpacks and boots. Also it’s not so showy to be eye candy for potential thieves depending on what part of the world you’re in. Would like to point out that the 38mm auto has long lugs. I have a 6.3 inch wrist and the 47mm lug to lug length is the max I can pull off.
My wrist is about the same size and I'm hesitant on pulling the trigger because of the comments I've read about the lugs.
I chose the 42mm auto. Having said that, I am currently bidding on a vintage military field mechanical.
And then I plan to also pick up a new mechanical. :)
The thinness of the mechanical is a huge advantage IMO. It seems to be one of the thinnest mechanical watches in its price range and probably the thinnest mechanical field watch period.
which is probably why the water resistant sucks
@@gooberpea2524 yeah possibly. I still find myself wearing it most out of all my watches though. I just avoid wearing it in situations where I'm expecting rain/water.
If I get caught in the rain, then 50m should still be enough, and I still won't stress over it.
@@duvalpenny100 ah ofc! I thought it has only 30m (confused it with the old Seiko 5s). like you said, if you’re careful, it shouldn’t be too bad!
Automatic, hands down! I have a Hamilton mens dress watch that my Grandmother gave to my Grandfather on Christmas day in 1948. It's been all around the world with me, and still keeps excellent time. I wanted to add another Hamilton to my collection, and as soon as I saw the Khaki Automatic, I knew that was the one. I'll probably never own a Patek Philippe or an A. Lange & Son, but honestly, this Hamilton is a bargain at twice the price. I am confident that it will still be going strong when my son bequeaths it to his son. And so it goes. If you are in the market for a rugged, reliable, handsome field watch, the Hamilton Khaki Automatic is hard to beat. Buy one -- you'll be glad you did !
Nice comparison aaaaand as a graphic designer I especially liked the VHS type font in the beginning, good job :)
Awesome video T3, I actually have the smaller version of both of these. I have the 38mm Khaki auto and a vintage 34mm hand wind Khaki.
Great video. Funny, Entertaining and informative. Still can’t make up my mind on which one though!
You can get the automatic in 38mm as well, I have one and love it!
This comment is much appreciated, does it also have the 80 hour power reserve?
@@ARMYRIFLES46 You bet it does!
Nice vídeo I actually own the utomatic one and I wear it with some nice NATO straps, one green military and two Bond style. It's my most precise watch (better than an Oris Artix Date and a Vintage Rado Green Horse).. I was planning to buy the mechanical for my 18 year old son, and now I'm convinced to do so. Many thanks! This is an excellent channel.
Great video! Two of my favorite things...Jeepin’ and my Hamilton 42mm automatic!
I’m actually trying to decide which one of these I want. I might just go with the manual since it’s slimmer and I love the finish.
The automatic is the hot set-up here, bud. Just compare the looks side-by-side. That, alone, is enough to tip the scales. And the automatic, imho, is vastly more desirable on every level, not the least of which is the eighty-hour power reserve. Eighty hours! It's definitely worth the extra dollars. I hope money isn't the deciding factor for you, because if it is, do what I did, and just wait. It's far better to own one watch that checks all of the boxes than to own two watches that you don't feel all that strongly about.
Nice Video, Good advices man.
I have the mechanical one and I love it. It was my first Hamilton watch and first hand winding mechanical watch in my collection
I don’t have a Rolex yet in my collection and it’s one of my goal to have one for more than 10 years ago. So which Rolex would you recommend to check and from where would you advice to buy one? As I live out of US.
Thanks man. Looking forward to hear from you.
I just got the 38mm automatic and I think it's absolutely fantastic!
Just watched this episode again, awesome I've got two hammys now both the 38 mechanical green and white I luv them awesome watches
I picked up the 42 mm Khaki Automatic in January and still can't get enough of it. I have a preference for a large watch as I just think it's a more masculine look. Also I can wear it to work with a dress shirt; totally agree with the comments about the watch's versatility. One last note is that the caseback window is gorgeous.
Watches are part of our EDC so it’s valid to add this type content. Many watch guys are into pocket knives, pens, and all kind of stuff.
I carry 2 knives along with 2 of many things.
I think your Victorinox is the cadet.
Hey there. After watching more than a few of your watch review videos, I finally decided to leave a comment and subscribe. That is significant for me because I don’t just support “anyone” that tries to create a UA-cam “business/persona”. However as a fellow horologist, I tend to spend a fair amount of my free time with screen time mainly focused on watches I’ve had, ones I have and one that I am considering purchasing. To that end, I just bought a Hamilton Khaki Field watch (from an authorized dealer, of course, the only way to go, IMO) at an amazing price point. All in I bought the watch for LESS than $400 (model H70555533). So I now have the “iconic field watch” ticked off of my list. I think you do as good of a job as only one on UA-cam reviewing watches of all shapes, sizes and price points. In short, you are very relatable to the average (casual?) horologist.
This video just reinforced my decision to go with the Hamilton model I did. I am expecting to own this watch permanently and pass it down to one of my sons (in about 50 years, lol).
Keep up the great work, keep these videos coming.

Short Hills, NJ.
I have the 42mm khaki Titanium that is an automatic with the older ETA higher beat movement. I wish I had the 80 hour power reserve but that sweeping second hand looks so nice.
Great vid, creative and I can tell how much work you put into it.
Means a lot. As a content creator, I really appreciate that!
The best is the 38mm automatic with steel bracelet. I personally own it and it's wonderful: you can really wear it as a dress watch, a diver or a field watch and it always look great on your wrist
Hey man, great video! I actually just got the mechanical in all black. I'm excited to get but I wanted to ask you how many times are you supposed to wind it just so I don't over wind The watch? Thanks again! 🤙
Personally I take the first few wears of a new mechanical hand-wind watch to figure out how much winding the movement requires to keep it running through the day (and in between wears if it’s part of a multi-watch rotation). For example: the first day you might give the crown a good 10 full turns, set the time, and go about your day. If it starts loosing a lot of time or stops completely during the day, you’d increase the morning winding. Then depending on how many watches you wear in frequent rotation, you’ll need to be sure to wind it if you go more than 80 hrs (~3 days) without taking it for a spin.
The manual might give an exact number of turns needed to fully wind the mainspring from dead.. But if you plan to keep it ticking in between wearing it, it’ll really just take a couple weeks of experimenting before you get it dialed in. (Unintentional watch pun)
Good luck! I own both watches (38mm auto & black PVD mechanical) and love them equally for different reasons.
Well you got a new sub. I really want a Hamilton Khaki Field watch but haven't decided which one to get yet. My max limit is probably around $600 so I'm guessing that'll limit me. Thanks for the video man!
Thanks for joining the channel, Clamum!
Great video and relevant, I picked up the 38 Mechanical this weekend. Great wear on the wrist, considering I wear Seiko Divers most of the time I barely felt I had a watch on. Also I love the great vintage military look being an ole salty dog former US Marine. Good job filming out on location.
Scott Pringle which seiko divers do you wear?
I wear of course the SKX007, Orange Samurai, SBDC053 and a Turtle.
Scott - UUUHHH RAAHH! Semper Fi!
Love my Hamilton, Love my Benchmade Griptilian too. Cheers man..great gear choices
Great video. I was looking to purchase the Hamilton Khaki Automatic H70455533. That’s the one you were talking about in the video. You were saying it’s 42mm but link shows the watch is a 38mm case back. Am I mistaken?
Thanks
I love both.
The automatic for everyday and everywhere: office, home etc.
The manual, for hiking , hunting, fishing. The outdoors.
So. Well said.
As a romantic, the hand wi d mechanic is a sentimental favorite.
I saw a guy on the subway wearing the khaki automatic this morning. A compliment started a brief watch convo before my stop.
Awesome how watches do that!
I do like my Hamilton Khaki Auto Titanium. I've had it for over 4 years but had a serious issue about 5 months ago where the crown rusted from the inside. I got it repaired but I wonder about the water resistance rating for these watches.
Love the video Jory! Something you say or do always makes me laugh! I actually just got a Hamilton Khaki Field Auto - 38mm 5 days ago! The decision was really tough as I was going back and forth between the Mechanical, Auto, and King continuously and couldn't make up my mind. Ultimately, I decided on the Auto because I felt it was a bit more versatile than others and because of the 100M WR, I didn't want to have to baby the watch and 50M is just not comfortable to me. That said, I have a 7.5" wrist like you and I still went with the 38mm version of the Auto as I felt it was more true to it's heritage.
My khaki auto 38mm is in my edc rotation with my g-shock. Just tried Pacific Gold jerky it was pretty good.
I got the khaki mechanical coming in tomorrow. It’s the discontinued version with the high beat movement, as well. Got a cordura strap separately and the watch for $400
Just bought one a Hamilton Khaki Mechanical 38mm. I got the brown dial because I am OG like that. haha Congrats again on that 100k subs pimp.@TheTimeTeller
I prefer the quartz version. It‘s reliable, a joy to look at and it satisfies all my watch-needs. I like how accurate it is without me having to correct time every couple of days.
I have 38 mechanical. Can’t beat the true ETA 28.8K, 8bps movement. I’ve got plenty of 6bps movements in other watches. Love the size as all my others are 40-45 range. Just different and that’s good.
Man, Hamilton watches are phenomenal in every way....mechanical or automatic!
I own a 42 Hamilton I love it had over 2 years. Had to seen it way before the 2 years was up.
I would go with the 42 mm. Have you done a review on the quartz model? I am actually in the market for a field watch. When I was on active duty in the Marine Corps, we used both quarts and automatic.
Great thoughts on the khaki. It is one of my favorites. I have the 38mm automatic and wear it regularly. I also have an older 36mm khaki automatic. One has a sapphire crystal and the other has acrylic, both are 9721 models. Also have a 33mm Hamilton khaki 921980 hand wind with acrylic crystal. Can you tell I like that watch? One day I will get the modern hand wind.
As a collector I'd go with a 38mm. A collector already has a dress watch and doesn't need a "ONE" watch. Water may be life but beef jerky is living! lol
LOVE that you're a jeep guy and a knife guy!!!
great vid!!
Thanks, Jerome!
Victorinox Captain. Great knife!! Awesome watches. Love my Hamilton Khaki field Auto
Just planning to purchase the mechanical over auto, but i believe the new 2019 khaki field model all used the H-50 with 80 power reserve, its no more 28,000v right?
I have the Khaki 2 Auto in 38mm. It’s perfect size with 80hr reserve and running +1!!!
Heard it’s discontinued tho
If I am really going into the field... which is really far from roads, I wear a Pro-Trek; BAC plus thermometer and a light at night. I have an Alpinist, but I do like that 38mm mechanical.
I have the 42mm black PVD titanium and 38mm stainless black dial. Love them!!
I have the 40 auto, 38 auto and the 38 mechanical. I love these watches, they are built above their price point by a lot. They are in my opinion the best sub 2k watches available. My blue khaki field 40 and all black 38 mechanical fight with my Tudor BB58 and my explorer for my main watch (I run pizzerias for a living so my main watches need to be able to basically get destroyed and survive).
Just bought the Hamilton Khaki 38 mm mechanical with black dial and date complication. Removed canvas band that came with watch and put on a Hirsch Liberty strap. What a difference! Very pleased with the watch but it does gain about 10 seconds/day. This will be my everyday wear watch.
+ 10 seconds a day is not bad for any mechanical watch and I get that from my Orient Monarch. However, my Khaki mechanical is only +1 to +4 seconds per day.
I have the quartz, mechanical, and king auto. I wear one to work, one in the field, and one in public. One the rare occasion, I wear a suite, I wear a dress watch from the american classic line. I think they are all great watches.
This feels like the watch version of the Crocodile Hunter. And I love it
lolololol!!!
I have had four Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic 38mm watches. All were exactly the same with the brown strap. I keep buying them a selling them to get something else. The last one was sold to get a an Oris Propilot. The thing is everytime I sell one I wish I hadn't. If I were to design my perfect watch it be almost exactly like the Hammy except for one thing. The sapphire is great but it needs some anti reflective coating.
I’m thinking about getting the Khaki Field Day Date Auto H70505733. I really like the treatment of the day and date. But it’s significantly more $ than either of these. Jory, what’s your opinion?
I agree with what you said in that the mechanical is so much of a traditional field watch.
I would choose the 42 mm Hamilton, but for a different reason. The larger watch is able to add the minute numbers just below the chapter ring and this feature makes it easier to tell the time.
Nice Vid
Would the Auto be better compared to the khaki king? If so how do you think it compares to that model?
Just ordered the Hamilton mechanical but the old one with the date window. I just like the look of it better.
Maaaaan!! La sacaste del cuadro! Excellent vid Jory! Love the Jeep, love the scenery, cool watches, folding blades... BEEF JERKY 😃❗ Great vid... fantastic vid!
In my case, for a field watch, I like autos: in the field you may not have the time o the "hands" to wind your mech. Just my (late again) $ 0.02
Great episode, love my 38mm mechanical but I have the previous model (H69419363)
I have the 42 automatic and the only down side is that the replacement leather strap is more expensive than the original purchase if to go through Hamilton and near impossible to source if you are not in the US , I had to get a hand made from etsy . Other than that it has not missed a beat in ten years of every day use .
I like my 38mm mechanical but I’ve accidentally overwound it twice (within the first six months) and had to send it back to be fixed both times.
I love the nato band though.
I also have a 7.5” wrist and i feel that it’s just a hair too small on my wrist (I mostly wear 40mm-42mm) but I still wear it. In hindsight I probably should’ve gone with the 42mm automatic and got a nato
Love my Auto with 80hr power reserve, and the fact you can dress it up too. Yes, the mechanical is more appealing to the diehard watch collector, but the auto is the better overall package imo
I have the 38mm automatic. The most versatile watch I have in my collection!!
How durable is the 38’s nato strap? Also, have you gone / would you go swimming with the 38?
I own two - a 2017 Field Mechanical hand-wind-only and a 1978 military-issue Hamilton Field Watch. Both are great.
The '78 has that "vintage" look because it actually is vintage now and the lume on it has faded.
But if I have to go back into the sandbox overseas to hurt people again, I'm taking my G-Shock negative-LCD solar and my Marathon tritium mil-issue mechanical hand-wind that even has tritium on the seconds hand.
The rest of the collection goes into the safety deposit box at the bank.
If you want the date function and forget about winding daily, but also want the small form factor of the 38mm, they do a quartz version with a small crown, date, and the small case. Issues are only 20m water resistance and no sapphire, at least on my one.
Thanks for the video. Nice work.
Can you review the Tudor bb 36 ? It's one of my favorite watches
I would love to get the handwind but i really worry about the lug to lug on my six inch wrist
I'm thinking of getting the 38 mm mechanical but I really don't like that NATO strap. Any thoughts about changing it out?
When you wear the 38mm Hamilton Khaki, does the nato strap goes all the way through the two keepers?
