    I always hated when Catherine's story was told in context of Henry&Anne's story, like "abandoned ex-wife". Im so glad that Spanish Princess showed Catherine, how strong and brave she was, her intelligence, pain and struggle.
    Charlotte Hope's performance is incredible

      Actually the casting for Catherine was very disappointing. Throughout the series except for a couple of times, you couldn't tell if she was happy sad or any other emotion. She was very beautiful and that's what it seemed like I was looking at they kept showing the face of a beautiful woman with very little acting ability. Especially when you watch The supporting cast and what fantastic actors they were.

      Yes that was horrible the way they were kept separated. But as she talks about the great love she has for Mary and wanting to go see her as she was "extremely ill". When Henri told her she could go and nurse Mary she chose not to. Henri was already openly with ann. so the care and great concern for Mary's health and needing a mother's attention she chose to neglect her and stay with Henry. Mary had been sick a few times and she didn't go see her. You can't be in severe distress and tears, but when it came down to it she chose not to go see her daughter. Don't get me wrong I think what was done to Catherine was horrible at the very least.

      @@pamelaevm880 That is a fact, every single shit argument he put up to get rid of the queens he "dismissed" to put it gently were false, and of course the lack of male heirs was THE single and most compelling reason to marry Anne.
      Still, he could have easily legitimized Henry Fitzroy or taken Bessie (or anyone else for that fact) as a more stable so to say mistress and legitimize any other sons she may give him if she did. For sake, his own claim to the throne through his mother comes from John of Gaunt (or his son idk) and his favourite mistress (Katherine Swynford I think?). Whom after the death of his wife legitimized all the children they had.
      So I mean- Would it have been a scandal? Absolutely. But he was the bloody king of England.
      Would it have LESS of a scandal than freaking leaving a princess of
      Europe to marry a commoner, traumatizing his poor child, breaking up an institution centuries old and all the people he had executed for refusing to convert? UH? YEAH. 100%!
      Henry wanted everything and his god damned ego was his downfall. He became obsessed with the legitimate male heir thing because he felt like people were probably thinking that he wasn't having any because that meant God didn't approve of him as king. That in itself alone ruined over the life of four women (his first two wives and his daughters) and all for nothing because from him came the first two queens of England in their own right whether he liked it or not.
      I /understand/ he was probably stressed out but NOTHING can justify what he did.

      I can’t fully agree. As a king he wasn’t an idiot. Arguably one of the best statesman in England in centuries. He had good leadership and successfully defended national interest against biggest powers in Europe: France, Spain, Rome... He held successful campaigns in France. He had an ambition to attempt at a European wide peace settlement, and accomplished signing of the ‘Universal and Perpetual Peace’ with France. He made the parliament the greatest power in the kingdom and minimized foreign power like the pope. He patronized the medicine, sports, culture. Start building a powerful fleet that end up making England the most powerful country. Invested in strategical defenses on the coast. He was not perfect, corrupt, executed a lot of people... but also one of a more effective kings, surpassed by popularity only by a few, like his daughter Elizabeth. Yes, he was a terrible husband, but for royalty of the time, marriage was a political contract to benefit the country and insure proper succession. Without having a son he was risking, as British hated the idea to follow a woman again. Honestly, you can’t look at him for a modern day perspective, and claim him as an idiot. The tv character was. The tv version of Catherine was brilliant. The tv Arthur was good. All we actually know about the real Arthur is a political propaganda of the time, he was a 15 year old who did not have a chance to prove himself in any way. The real people weren’t even close to what was portrayed on a tv screen.

      You're saying Catherine was madly in love with Henry when Arthur died which you're saying she fell in love with a 10 year old boy. In regard to Catholicism there were a lot of corrupt churches. Before the show I've seen history channel's and where they would fake tears and blood and people were having to pay to see it. Also the rich paid Catholic Church money to assure they would have a place in heaven. Catholics also had people buying others to pray for them. So what about the peasants and other poor people? They didn't have the money to buy their way into heaven but that's never addressed. And let's not forget the Inquisition and how many many years people were burnt to death unless they accepted being a Catholic. So with their actions God wanted to kill everyone who wasn't a Catholic. And the palaces and Grand estates the money was being used for by the priest. Instead of orphanages and helping the poor they lived a life of luxury. of course they didn't want everyday people to be able to read what the Bible says because it sure wasn't what they were practicing. And you're wanting to tell me she was in love with a 10 year old and that was her motive LOL she wanted to be Queen of England not the widowed princess of Wales. The giant question is whichever she lost her virginity to what happened to the linen that showed she was a virgin? Let's give Henry a couple of years and now she's 18 and he's 13 so you're telling me she was madly in love with a 13 year old boy. I find it extremely hard to believe those were her reasons for wanting to marry Henry. the show took liberties making him look like a 17 year old instead of the reality of a 10 year old.

And the Tudor dynasty was only getting started, I feel in his thoughts if all he had was a daughter to follow him - his family name and his family's legacy wouldn't have carried on. This is why he basically doubled up on Fitzroy's dukedoms and I'm certain he also turned his gaze to his sisters' sons as well as potential heirs over Mary even before the thought of divorcing Katherine came to mind. And England was one generation removed from a bloody war that unseated the Yorks and put the Tudors on the throne. England literally couldn't afford a war because all he had was a female heiress. Catherine of Aragon was educated, warrior queen Henry did not deserve. Irony of the history, I've learned recently she had more claims to the English throne than Henry as his claims were through illegitimate line of his grandmother Margaret, whereas her claims were through legitimate line. It's almost amusing, almost as history of Catherine and Mary is sad, that Henry VIII whose whole claim to rule is based on his grandmother and subtle work of Margaret, despised his daughter and got obsessed with getting sone. Eventually, everyone even non-historians, recognize his daughter Mary and Elizabet but his son is simply sick boy for those who even recall he existed. Bloody Mary and Elizabeth I are widely recognized.

    • @janefelix3821
      @janefelix3821 2 роки тому

      Henry VIII inherited the crown from his father, Henry VII. His father won the crown in battle which was not uncommon in medieval times. After the elder Henry became King the country ended its 30 year civil war known as the War of the Roses and began the process of uniting under one crown, part of the reason was that Henry Tudor (VII) married the oldest child of the York King, Edward IV, who some say was in line for the throne, thus uniting the two main factions, York and Lancaster under one King. So Henry was just as legitimate as Catherine's parents.
      Edward VI was known but since he never governed on his own, he is know less since the Regents (Lord Protector) had most of the power given that he reigned from ages 9-15.

I haven't seen these shows yet I will after finishing The Tudors. I'm just glad they finally made a show only about Queen Catherine of Aragon. When they make movies also a show about Henry they insert his wives then make it mostly about him and his wives take a backseat or is made to look bad in a way. I know this show has inaccuracies(so what) at least its show were Catherine is the star, and Henry takes the backseat for once that's what makes me happy. This my question: What would Mary's based reign television show should be called? Some people hate Anne, but she gave to England one of the most amazing Queen : Elizabeth I.
    Mary Tudor, oldest than Elizabeth; suffered so much and bitterness possessed her and her reign wasn’t good because she didn’t understand her own time.

    In many ways this feels like the curse of nobility and society and the monarchy system in general. If Henry had been born of a normal life and wasn’t Royal or a King, I genuinely think he and Catherine could have been happy together. But as usual, patriarchy and the notion of male heir importance has to just come in and ruin lives. It’s ruined the lives of 6 innocent women trying to survive in their own way in a harsh world, it’s ruined the lives of Henry’s children, and it’s ruined Henry’s own life in the end.
    It’s sad but as long as they were Kings and Queens, Catherine’s path was just always inevitably so doomed by circumstances beyond her own control and a society that treats women and girls like garbage and to be used as pawns.

    • @YORKSCROWN
      @YORKSCROWN  4 роки тому +11

      In my opinion,Henry is guilty at all what has happened because he could let Mary,his daughter,marry French or Spanish King and then got his heir. Plus,there were Queens,who ruled herself or had husband,who was consort of their lands. For example,William III of England didn’t leave a heir because Mary II couldn’t be pregnant but he didn’t divorce or find another wife - it was his kind and loved heart. Henry was evil: he changed one wife to the next because of stupidity and vanity. And unfortunately,there are still and,perhaps ,will be men like him.

    I enjoyed TSP, Although in the mid Of s2 i found catherine Annoying, but its not Her fault it's the way the writers, wrote her. I hate the way they Ruined Catherine by showing her Ignoring Her daughter and wanting nothing to do with her, when in fact that wasn't the case at ALL. She Loved Mary. I love the way you Showed Catherines Strength, Dignity and Courage, But also her sorrow and Insecurities, and the fact that she was Also just human in a Harsh and lonely Court. The way you put together all different Adaptations of her not only shows her in different lights, but Also your Incredible Editing Skills, and How you've taken time to really Show Catherine For the Brave and Fierce queen she was. It shows thought the video that you really care about her and the way she is Portrayed. I do Sympathize with All of Henry's Queens, But i also Can understand his Obsession, because of The time in which he lived, it was believed that Daughters were the weaker sex and therefore seen as unfit to rule and only a son was considered a legitimate Heir. It doesn't Excuse the way Henry Discarded Catherine and his treatment of her and Their Daughter. Anyway enough about henry, I just want to say that I admire Catherine For the way she Held on to her Faith, Despite the new reformation and the unrest of England, But apart from all of Her triumphs throughout her life, I think the Strongest thing about her is that even though Henry mistreated her towards the end of their marriage, Catherine still never hated on Him, she just prayed that he would find Peace, and She never stooped to his level, she was Wise beyond her years and Lived her life the way she believed that God wanted her to do, she lived her life in the light and strength of god, Throughout Her life her Belief never Waivered . To me that is Remarkable and says all you need to Know about who she was a person. Thank you @YORKSCROWN For showing her For all she is, it is Truly beautiful and Wonderfully edited. Catherine had many chance to win back Henry and eliminate Anne Boleyn like order someone to poison her but Catherine was different, she was kind and gentle like the complete opposite of Juana. Such a shame that the last infanta Castille and Aragon from the House of Trastamara ended up marrying a pig who didn't deserve the throne of England. Catherine/Catalina deserved better.

      Real Juana was a good and unhappy person because of father and husband’s vile and cruel relationship to her,they wanted to remove her taking the throne that was given to Juana by Isabella I. The Spanish Princess made dirty her but you may watch “La corona partida” that saves historical facts. And yes,CoA deserved better❤️

    King Henry VIII did not move heaven & earth to marry Anne Boleyn, he moved heaven & earth because he desperately needs a son. He was feeling lustful for Anne as he did with her older sister Mary. The irony though saying that his marriage to Catherine is null & void due to her being his brother's widow but then married Anne despite the fact that he bedded her older sister and may even have 1 or 2 children with her. He eventually got tired of Anne after bedding her and was executed just after 3 years of marriage LOL. As for Jane Seymour, maybe he would eventually be tired of her if she were to live but her position is fully secured after giving birth to his long-awaited son. Plus, Jane was a loving step-mother to Princess Mary after all the sadness & hell she has been through. #TeamCatherineAndMary . To all the Anne Boleyn fans, do not get triggered LOL if people are #TeamCatherineAndMary and have no sympathy for Anne Boleyn at all.

      And I share your opinion ‘cause Anne’s fans are mainly sharp and excuse their icon’s blames behind Catherine’s age though Elizabeth Woodville like Queen Catherine was 5 years older than her husband Edward IV who didn’t think to separate her and she’s still known for brilliant beauty👍🏻

    People really need to research actual history before they comment on these characters based on these historical soap operas. I'm amazed so many thought katherine set her cap for Henry as soon as Arthur died and made the whole virginity myth to get him. She had nothing to do with it. Henry 7 was notoriously miserly. At Arthur's death he was faced with having to send Katherine, and more importantly, her dowry back. He did not want to let go of that money. It was he that came up with the idea to betroth her to 10 year old Harry. The dispensation he got from the pope included the possibility that she and Arthur had consumated. So there was no need for her to lie, although it did add credence. Harry renounced the betrothal when he got older. That's when Henry 7th got the idea to marry her himself. He did not want to let go of that dowry, and of course, the alliance. The youngsters did not in anyway manipulate the match. Although Harry did have a change of heart when his father died and proposed to Katherine

Nothing says religion like burning and killing people if they're not Catholic. Buying prayers, buying your way into heaven, praying to statues of saints, praying to the Virgin Mary. (Idols) it's no wonder the pope and priests of the time didn't want everyone to be able to read the Bible. Wonder what happened to the people who didn't have money to pay the priest for a place in heaven.
