    Catherine was not like in the documentary (a stereotype of a Spanish woman) she had gold-red hair and blue eyes, that's why Mary was red head and blue eyed.

      The one in the documentary would probably resemble Anne more in looks

      I don’t think the actress has to look exactly like who they portray as long as they get the point across and are good actors.

    Seven years of waiting for a marriage that would end up in a tragedy of abandonment and annulment, all to satiate the needs of a narcissist man. In between the Spanish queen and all other remaining wives of Henry, sometimes, I think the first suffered the most.

      Me too!! Everyone ignores the struggles Katherine went through before and after her marriage. Yes I know be killed 2 of them, but Kathrine suffered for a lot of years and had to suffer until the day she died. Henry did love Katherine though. If they had a living son they would have stayed together. As Henry himself had said “she was a model wife in ever way, except one” the son thing

    Wish people would stop depicting Catherine as a dark haired, brown-eyed Spaniard. She had red hair and light eyes, blue or gray. Try harder.

      "Claims" are generally irrelevant if you don't have the throne. Eh it's one of those things where possession is nine tenths of the law.

    I just realize, Catherine waited 7 years and so did Anne Boleyn. Both ended in tragic ends, while Catherine languished in a small room, Anne was beheaded.

    Did Katherine and Henry meet and talk during the 7 years before their marriage?

      Yes, I believe so. In fact his father Henry 7th was trying to arrange a marriage between his son and Princess Eleanor, Catherine's niece. When King Henry 7th died, Henry decided to take Catherine as his wife, which makes me think he had genuinely fallen in love with her.

      Most likely. She was married to his elder brother so even once she was widowed she would have some opportunities to meet with him once or twice, she was even Spanish ambassador for a while so likely met with the royals a few times during that period too. Its said Henry fell in love with her so he must have seen her a few times before he became king.

      They did. Henry was in love with her from the beginning, and he would visit her and write letters to her in the years before Henry vii's death

    • @bethanne1221
      @bethanne1221 Рік тому +4

      Yes! They say he was infatuated with her from the moment they meant when she came to England to marry Arthur. Then in the 7 years after Arthur died they would see each other and write letters. He could have married someone else, but he chose her and had they had a living son would have been married until they both died. Plus Katherine was very good at putting up with Henry’s shit and could placate him very well. Something none of his other wives could do, aside from Catherine Parr.

      @@bethanne1221 I agree with you. Someone mentioned in a comment that Catherine was both "wife"/partner and "mother" figure for Henry VIII. She was able to placate him and deal with his capriciousness. The skill that Anne lacked. Henry probably assumed after he married Anne, she would fall in line and be more like Catherine. But she kept quarrelling with him instead and she didn't change her ways...her ways that actually made him interested in her in the beginning.... I also really believed that the first head injury he sustained in the the jousting (against Charles Brandon) caused him to want to get annulment/divorce from Catherine. He became obsessed with the idea of male heir. He and Anne started their affair a couple of years after the first head injury. The 2nd jousting injury he suffered in 1536 likely pushed him into the worst version of himself and he started the charges against Anne B. So yeah I think a lot of his behavior was caused by his 2 jousting accidents.
