Hi bestie, I'm sorry things haven't been great for you. As others have said, your work continues to amaze and impress and in no time I'm sure you'll be able to pull of your dream of doing this full-time again. Thanks for always being true to yourself and being open with your audience!
Gutted it hasn't worked out the way you guys wanted, hope you'll still do semi regular collabs. Your chemistry has been great to watch but I'm subbed to you both anyway. We all have shitty times but the fact you'll be back making content speaks volumes. Still subbed regardless, just like your character. Stay well buddy.
Best wishes for the future Josh, remember, One Door Closes, Another Door Will Open. Keep your eyes open. I wish you all the best. Look forward to any and all your future videos.
I'm not going to pretend this was an enjoyable video to watch, but I am very grateful you decided to share your struggles with us. I am going through a hard time myself, and I find it comforting and encouraging when other people are willing to open up about their hardships. It makes me feel less alone in dealing with my shit, and it does wonders for normalizing an open debate about mental health in general. What I'm trying to say is that even now you're actually making a real difference by being open and honest, and that is incredibly important. Thank you for being a part of what makes this hobby so special. I'm going to subscribe to your patreon later tonight, you definitely deserve all the support you can get.
Hi first time viewer from Texas and I can completely understand where you're coming from. I just got back into 40k earlier this year and with my tax money, I bought a good sized Necron army, the first one I invested in since 2003. I had a great run for a while and was posting daily or every other day on my progress and then life just came out of left field and derailed my momentum. Sometimes it just takes time and new inspiration to get back in the saddle again. No worries, just breathe, smell the roses and try relaxing with a movie, t.v. show or a good old book that might Kindle that spark. I wish you all the luck in the world and for what it's worth you have one more subscriber to your channel. Take care partner 👍🏻God bless 🙏
You just passed 10k subs and things are only going to go up from here. I know how it feels trying to juggle an office job and a hobby that also helps pay some bills and it can be a struggle at times but extremely fulfilling the rest of the time. Can't wait for more videos as always!
Thanks for sharing your journey back. It actually means a lot. This summer I suffered some real dark times and for the time since I over 20 years I couldn't pick up a brush. Hobby eventually brought me back and has inspired me to start my own YT journey.
Found you through Geek Gaming Scenics and UA-cams algo being helpful and have really been enjoying your video content! Can def relate to hobby burnout, and having it come from outside factors and it's great to get things like this out into the open so people are more open to talking about it. Looking forward to more!!
Dealing with bipolar 2 depression, hobby burnout happens, all the time, for me. Ican go weeks without it or months. One time my depression hit me so hard, I stopped hobbying for a year. It happens to us all. Just take the time to reset and do some other hobbies you put to the side. (I started MTG and Pokémon TCGs)
With you on this one. I have ADHD (inattentive type) among other things. I just totally stop painting/modelling for weeks at a time without warning. I just can't face it, or can't focus or can't decide on a start point.
Just came over from Luke's video and am gutted for you, man. I hope that the fact that you got to do what you love most full time will help keep that fire alive and you'll be a fully fledged full time content creator before you know it :) All the best, Josh!
Saw the news over on Luke's channel. Don't worry. You're a talented dude and you will bounce into the next great thing. Keep your eyes open and you'll do well. Keep up the good work and hope you find an interim job that will carry you over until you can dive in 100% once again.
Sending hugs and love ma dude. Hope u find ur feet n keep ur mojo chief. Take care n keep talking to those who're close to u. I caught back upto ur channel cos that mini really caught my eye after being distracted by other things more recently.. it caught my imagination n made me wanna try to use my airbrush properly. Thank you, ur content is still rockin chief
I am sorry for the bad news. I wish you good luck with a new job. But the 3rd version of the skeleton looks amazing...and you inspired me to try something like that. Maybe with some OSL. Thanks!
Sad to see you go from Geek Gaming the banter (read abuse) was great but glad to see you are still in the game, hope you get the chance to make a go of it on a pro business. As far as the burnout, I think we all understand. I'm just in the final stages of a 1000pt Firefight army for the Black Jack Legacy slow grow so for the last 3 months that is all I have been painting and finishing the last few minis has been a slog (quick tip, never chose Urban Cammo as your paint scheme) so I'm going to take a break from the minis before I start on my 30 odd Escher and paint one of the 3d printed 1:10 scale models from Ritual Casting, I have an Archer on Horseback which should be a fun challenge as I have never even painted a 28/32 mm scale horse so a 6 inch horse could be a disaster. Best of luck.
Sounds like you've got a few fun projects lined up at least, best thing to do when burnout takes over. I think I've found my mojo again, finished painting something for the next video and it was a lot of fun. Cheers for checking out the channel :)
Great video mate, Interesting I’ve been struggling painting a group of GW Orks. It’s funny how our hobby which we love so much and brings us such joy can be at the mercy of our outside feelings. Most of the time it’s what keeps us going and helps us through the dark times, but because it’s a creative hobby I suppose it needs, us to be in that right mood for things to just click. My paints are currently put away and minis gathering dust on a shelf. I’m going to try just painting one, and see how I get on. Stay strong and stay safe.
Love you buddy. Look how well you did before GGS. Yes GGS was awesome but you've built an empire and a great community with the pickle jar discord as well as just grown yourself. I'm super proud of you buddy. Big loves ❤️❤️❤️
Sorry to hear it didn't work out on Luke's channel! Not sure how it is in the UK but here in Aus anyway a good gig to get by and still have a lot of free time for stuff like UA-cam is driving jobs. Lots of part time/casual positions, and the nice thing about running around doing deliveries or pickups or whatever is the large amount of autonomy that comes with. No boss breathing down your neck about deadlines and shit.
There are plenty of options out there, it's just finding something that fits in around my channel, my fiance and my son. I've got something that will put me on at least for now.
All the best for the future, Josh! Sometimes things don't work out the way we want them to, but keep your head up! I'm excited for what's to come :) Lot's of love from Germany :)
All the very best for what comes next - keep going I love what you do here on your channel. A wise woman once told me - 'sometimes on the way to a dream you get lost and find a better one' keep going 👍
Wish you all the best for the future and I’ll still keep enjoying your vids. Hope both of you can do the odd vid together from time to time as you’re great together
Sorry to hear about you leaving Geek Gaming Scenics. I know what it's like to go through tough times. I've had more than my share. I know you'll bounce back and be better than ever. Don't be discouraged. You're a talented creator. I'll be supporting your channel 100%.
First time on your channel after following the link from Luke's channel. Why haven't I been here before as you are an amazing figure painter with a lot to teach me. Subbed. 👍👍
hey man, everyone has to eat, new sub here, shame things didn't work out with Luke, hope things go well in the new job, fit us in when you can we'll be here.
Ahhh I’m gutted for you dude but I’m sure you’ll be alright in the end! I’m glad you two have parted on good terms, you both makes me laugh, very similar humour and banter to me and my mates. I’ve had to start a new job recently after our family business closed doors last month after 136 years, chin up and charge the mountain dude, get the money rolling in and then work on your channel and grow it and I’m sure in time you’ll be able to do this full time!
All the best with the future Josh. Don't get worried if the hobby has to take a back seat for a while - you've got the talent and time will present different opportunities.
all the best mate! good luck on the normi life job search! hope to at least see You and Luke on a podcast of sorts, cuz your chemistry on video is so calming to watch. all the best
Told you this before, but your work speaks for itself and you're successful in your own right. You make a big, positive contribution to a lot of people's lives, you're definitely a big inspiration for me! Keep chugging dude, awesome to have you back 😁
Really great video, my brother! The model looks incredible! I'm truly sorry that the dream job didn't work out and I pray that your the path to your dreams pick back up soon. Big loves to you and your family, my brother! ~ Wolfbrother Methos
That was a great video to share! I just watched you and Luke on his channel explain you leaving so I came to see your content. Glad I did! Over the past year or so I have had many issues and times where I lost my painting mojo too. Seeing that it's not just me and looking at different ways to ease back into it was heartwarming. Many thanks and cheers from Melbourne, Australia =D
You have always made great content and i have no doubt that this setback will just make you an even better creator in the long run. You have the support of your community and its growing every day. Stay strong mate
Love the honesty mate, well done for sharing. Love what you do at the pickle jar, take some time for yourself and keep going and get back to enjoying the hobby we know and love 💕 🐻x
I have to admit, I stopped batch painting about a year ago. I really don't enjoy it. I now paint only kill teams and Bloodbowl teams one model at a time. That way I can jump between projects and when I want to change things up I get my big dry brushes out paint up some terrain. It helps with being a dad and having very little spare time at the moment working like this. I found that when I batch paint I end up with a bunch of half painted models. Now I have a bunch of half painted teams lol.
Everyone finds their own rhythm for painting, sounds like you got yours nailed. I generally only paint a few at a time nowadays but I need to bust out the big batch painting skills soon, got a HUGE project to work on.
Big loves dude ❤️ So glad u put this out. Said to you on discord that skeleton scheme looks fantastic. Bloody love the effect you've ended up with. And as for the other stuff. You will get there 💪😍
Follow you on Twitter and I’m so happy you made a video and explained things and especially your journey with mental health and the skeletons. Keep it up, you inspire me to keep going.
The final figure turned out great :) Yeah I had the same issue of lack of motivation after being sick, it might be the time of year as well. Luckily I had bought a couple of figures for a period that I had never thought of doing before (Hundred Years War/War of the Roses) and for some reason just painting one of those proper, almost clichéd knights in shining armour was so enjoyable. It was a completely different experience with so much of the figure in metallics and literally no skin showing at all :D It got me started on a completely unplanned project to build a small force of knights based in the Game of Thrones world, mostly so I could do whatever I wanted in terms of coats of arms and livery...
It's always nice when a project gets you going again with the hobby mojo. I've often found that working on a completely random model helps get me out of my funk.
Oh dude, so sorry to hear that things happened badly. You know enough to make not paint. I hope find a job that covers bills and hobby too. Most jobs are boring or get boring . You shoot a video one day , edit and send up to UA-cam on another day off. Gotta protect your creativity dude.
Look on the bright side, at least your hair isn't red and ginger anymore. Good luck, I doubt it will be long before you are a full time UA-camr in your own right.
Hi bestie, I'm sorry things haven't been great for you. As others have said, your work continues to amaze and impress and in no time I'm sure you'll be able to pull of your dream of doing this full-time again. Thanks for always being true to yourself and being open with your audience!

Good luck for the future bud, you won't need it when your work speaks for itself.
I can't wait to see what the future holds, all the best bud :D

Indeed - the idea that men have to be tough and just suck it up is causing a lot of unhappiness and worse.

Onward and upward!
Thank you :)
What office job type stuff would you be looking for mate?
Just admin stuff mate, it's what I've done for years before I worked with Luke
Didn't know you ahd your own channel, so have a sub now. bets of luck. Am in a similar situation currently due to techlayoffs :(
Thanks for checking out the channel. I hope your situation get better soon, not nice going through this.
Sounds like it's time to blow this channel up then!
In a good way right? Right?
@@ThePickleJar... Yes...
Oh dude, so sorry to hear that things happened badly. You know enough to make not paint. I hope find a job that covers bills and hobby too. Most jobs are boring or get boring . You shoot a video one day , edit and send up to UA-cam on another day off. Gotta protect your creativity dude.
Yeah, I've sorted another job, just not something I'll enjoy as much as working with Luke. Hey ho, life goes on
Look on the bright side, at least your hair isn't red and ginger anymore. Good luck, I doubt it will be long before you are a full time UA-camr in your own right.
hahahahaha
