Like you I'm very attuned to the idea of 'lifetime design', which is a concept i wish more would appreciate. My particular obsession is scarves produced under the eyes of Dior and Yves Saint Laurent (rather than made by corporate licensees). It's a wonderful pursuit and as challenging as collecting vintage in the pre Google days. Good luck with your auction!

I've come across a few low priced items that were valuable. Most recently I bought a pair of dressers from one of my customers (I clean houses) I knew it was from the 1960's, and I could tell it was really well made. They're very brutalist looking, and have slate tops. Anyway, I found out they are Broyhill, from the Sculptra collection, which I'd never heard of before, but apparently they're worth about $5,000.00 for the pair, and I paid $100.00 for them. I like them a lot, but I know the mid century modern craze is going to be on its way out soon, so I kind of feel like I should sell them now before their value drops.
Good for you. I'm an Aussie avid UK Antiques Roadshow watcher of many years. Here there's not the wealth of items for average people to stumble across treasures at a local 'car boot sale' sometimes for next to nothing. They go on the show and find the 50p glass bowl they liked is Lalique and worth 1000s. I love seeing those and am so happy for the people when they find out. We did have one big item here when they visited a while back. A Steiff black teddy bear made to commemorate the Titanic that ended up being worth something like $300,000. They only made a handful with few left. The lady was blown away.
@@tkps are there not a lot of thrift shops there? We have flea markets here, but I've never heard of a car boot sale. It sounds cool. We have "trunk or treat" events where all of the parents from a school, or church will fill a parking lot, and all of the kids go around getting candy. I love decorating my trunk, and dressing up plastic skeletons to buckle into my car. I love the idea of a parking lot, car trunk flea market.
I'm happy for you but I personally wouldn't be able to sell it. I hope Ripley's didn't buy it and we don't see some celebrity wearing it walking down a red carpet one day. Always sending you love to you and your crew Doris. I hope your not retiring from fashion! 🎨💖🎶
Congrats, I hope that a museum bought the dress, or a collector who will let it be seen. Knowledge is power, I haven't had such a big profit margin, but I have found some treasures over the decades.
