They wanted to advance ans they did I just dont know what caused such innovations to be stopped and not pursued to be better and who knows what mass amounts of actual useful people helping items and things like this wouldve been today. Why did they cut it off before we got to see that guy fall asleep with that cigarette in his mouth, setting the entire hotel ablaze? Fortunately for him, he won't have to worry now about the thousands of dollars he just racked up in minibar purchases.
Also never seen a hotel room with a refrigerator that has a ice maker. Nowadays you bring the bucket to the get ice from the ice machine at the end of the hallway.
Funny that today, that vending machine would either be circumvented or (in a more less reputable hotel/motel), it would be vandalized and the entire contents emptied for a dime baggie of heroin.
Nothing to do with stealing everything, because then you'll just be billed for it. What people did with the manual mini-bars is to drink the soda then replace it with something they bought off the street before housekeeping notices. The modern electronic sensor system fixes that by instantly billing anything removed.
I stayed in a Munich hotel in May last year. They had vending machines there. No vandalizing, though it was a very respectable neighbourhood, of course.
There's so many things weird with this. First they come into a motel and simply leave their car in front. Second they are simply given keys to a room. Third why is the wending machine guy stocking up before the guest come into the room. Fourth although they came to a motel they never brought clothes with them. Fifth simply out of no where they get changed to PJs. Seriously there's more.

1. Pretty sure they hand the keys to a valet to park the car for them 2. Pretty sure there’s more stuff done off scene like payment 3. Maybe they did this just for the film but maybe the room wasn’t fully ready but just needed to restock the machine 4. Possibly they were staying there for just one night for a rest so they left everything in the car, but again they changed into PJs so there was definitely stuff done off scene
