      Peace? There are proxy wars happening around the world even before this war started. There are political assassinations and political espionage going on around the world also. As long as money and politics exist there won't be any Real peace.

      The war has been going on for a long time. But they didn't tell you about her. And if they did, it was only what was beneficial to your authorities. For ten years, artillery shelled peaceful cities every day. Now this artillery is being destroyed. But it is not profitable for those who stand above you. And they told you it was a brutal war. Because they will no longer be able to continue shelling, inciting peoples against each other. I understand that no one will provide you with truthful information. But thinking that you stand for a peaceful life, you find yourself at one with the murderers.

    Don't worry about a graceful exit for Putin. An anecdote from Brezhnev's time: Napoleon stands at the military parade in the USSR, side by side with Brezhnev, while reading a newspaper. Murat jumps to him "Your Majesty, look! If we had such guns, we would not lose Waterloo battle" Napoleon does not answer. Murat jumps again "Your Majesty, if we had such tanks, we would not lose Waterloo battle!" Napoleon does not answer. Murat jumps the third time: "Your Majesty, if we had such rockets, we would not lose Waterloo battle!" Napoleon stops reading the newspaper "Pravda" and answers: "If we had such a newspaper, nobody would ever know that we lost Waterloo battle" EOA. Note: translation of "Pravda" = "Truth"

In order to make significant advances and actually control the country, he needs a brand new army and he don't have one sitting on the Ukraine border any more. He has to move units from other theaters, they have to be loaded on trains, they have to be assembled and sorted out... You are talking a lot of time involved, not to mention physical effort and money.

    This is some of the best analysis I have seen, but there is one minor point I a disagree on - I think The Economist has a bit of a blind spot regarding UK's influence on the world stage and appears to overstate it a bit. The UK has spent the last five years economically painting itself into a corner and hasn't been putting any serious effort into world-stage diplomacy in that time either, resulting in a much diminished world stage presence. Of the major western powers, it's Germany, France and the USA who are in frequent contact with Russia, not so much the UK at the moment.

    This war, as a geopolitical maneuver, is frightening. The reason being is that NATO itself is being tested. In the event things escalate outside of Ukrainian borders, the only way to avoid nuclear armageddon will be for NATO to back down, thus rendering it ineffective. This will not only give Russia more confidence, but will also give China the impetus to invade Taiwan. Let us be reminded that the League of Nations' exposure as paper-power was a prerequisite to the Second World War.

If for some reason Putin did attack nato the Russian conventional forces would be decimated within a week. Obviously the nuclear arsenal is an issue but considering the state of every other peice of Russian equipment we've seen these last few days I myself will not lose any sleep over it.
    If Putin is mad then none of this matters because a madman will do as he pleases regardless of reasons. If he is still sane then he can see the obvious and an attack on nato would be the end of Russia. Either way what will be will be and I won't overly worry about things I have no control over

    Losing this war would be an existential threat to Putin's regime. However, so is getting into a war with NATO. Putin will do to Ukraine what he did to Chechnya even if it takes him 20 years. Rather than attacking a Polish arms depot and risking an article 5 action, he'll seal off Ukraine's western border to stop military aid.

    I catch a lot of flak when I post how bad it is for Russians in Ukraine. 100% of Putin's pre-invasion force concentration along the border with Ukraine has been committed to battle. There is no Russian strategic reserve in this theatre. Just to maintain their positions, the Russians require an enormous supply chain, replacement armor, and replacement support and supply vehicles. They don't have enough, and their only option at some point will be to hold themselves in defensive positions where they maintain contact unit to unit all the way back their original assembly areas in Belarus.

    The question is how far all countries will go. Back in May 2020 this was public On Wednesday, China took up one of Russia’s long-held lines of attack, suggesting that Covid-19 originated in American-owned biolabs in the former Soviet bloc. Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang told the state-owned news channel CGTN, “The United States has created many laboratories in the territory of the former Soviet Union, which evokes serious public worries in the neighboring countries concerned.”
    Geng echoed remarks made by Russia’s foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova on April 17. “We cannot ignore the fact that such infrastructure with a dangerous biological potential is built by the Americans in direct proximity to Russian borders,” she said.

    There is an unspoken assumption in this video that appeasement and non-confrontation of Putin will give a better result. One only has to look at Syria to see this is not so. Driving Putin's forces back to Russia must be done.

    • @thinkingaboutit2991
      @thinkingaboutit2991 2 роки тому +1

      It's complacency and appeasement on the part of the West that has brought us to this point, but the time to defend Ukraine was before the war began. The country should have been brought under the Nato umbrella years ago. A very clear line has been drawn by Nato and has to be reinforced, so Putin is in no doubt, that an attack on any Nato nation will bring down all our force on him. That's not appeasement, given the stakes. Now that Russia is at war in Ukraine, the commentators are making a very valid point that it would be only too easy for our backing of Ukraine to escalate into direct military confrontation with Russia. A hot war between Nato and Russia would lead inexorably to nuclear war within weeks. That's the end of most human life on the planet and our civilisation as we know it, so cool heads need to prevail, however frustrating for us and distressing for the Ukrainian people that might be. Now that we've all woken up to what we face, we should do our best not to give him the satisfaction of taking us all down with him, because we will win the long game.
