    Glad the pilot survived and is recovering. A couple of things I’ll add:
    I don’t know the pilot or his experience, but this is a GREAT reason why I advise folks to learn paragliding prior to getting into paramotoring. I see a lot of PPG pilots flying at their limits and with no chance of a reserve toss. If you’re flying at abroad, remote areas, or at a crowded event, then maybe fly with a 20% buffer: give yourself more altitude than usual and don’t push yourself or your gear to the limits. Dial it back a smidge. No need to always push the envelope folks.
    Flying in Iceland? Maybe give yourself a bit more altitude to toss the reserve? Also, don’t fly near cliff faces, especially near the beach (as you mentioned). As a paraglider pilot, I was leaning to my left as he started to cross those gaps and the cliff face (that is not a natural path I would take, but I also don’t fly with a motor).
    Once the right wing collapsed, the natural response should have been to go “hands-up” on that side and (like you said) weight-shift to the left, but avoiding that flight path altogether would have been the wisest choice (hindsight is 20/20).

    I once watched a video of someone tossing their reserve because they had a partial wing collapse, but then he explains how he was at a very high altitude and didn’t want to risk it. His wing re-inflated while his reserve was out too, but it was less than 5 seconds before he hit the ground (due to the low air density). He was ok, but had to pack his gear and hike out. His reserve was orange.
    “Better to have used it and not needed it, than to have needed it and not used it at all!” - love that advice!

    Onshore wind is not due to smooth sea it's due to the sea breeze effect.

    I'm glad you noted that a reserve will help no matter the altitude. Any amount of resistance in the air is less force that will crush your bones. There is NO altitude that a reserve is not worth trying when it comes to survival.

    This is the second accident breakdown video I’ve seen of yours. You REALLY did an exceptional job of parsing out the root causes and making it understandable. The only thing that would make it better is if you can find video examples of the recovery solutions you put out there (spin, partial collapse, etc). Would be nice to see it done correctly vs trying to imagine it. Well done and thank you. Thanks also to the injured pilot for sharing.

    Anytime I see those videos with that cool looking high terrain I wonder which way is the wind blowing and how fast. I mostly fly on the East Coast of Florida so we don’t have that issue here but those military helicopters love to fly up and down the beach about 500 feet off the ground. They do get my attention. I always want to be upwind of their track or climb quickly above them. Keep up the awesome content!

    Your analysis is correct, if you are NOT in rotor, when you are in rotor depending how strong it is nothing but gods hand can help you.

    Understanding or knowing which way the wind is blowing while on the ground is easy. When I am in the air, how do I figure this out? My PPG app can show me if I have it up. I can kind of do a circle and sense the direction. Hard to tell the speed. Trevor, how do you sense the speed and direction while you are flying? Thanks for the analysis. I agree, likely a lot of rotor on the coast with these formations.

      They produce “wake” not “rotor” which is very similar.

    I had a 50% flapper not long ago from rotor and it happened so fast I was low.My right side lines all went slack and I dropped violently and put me into a face down dive as the glider recovered I got rag dolled violently also.The side of the wing that was flying was not flying straight and level.Maybe cause I was on a reflex profile trimmed out 1 notch from neutral..I wont fly into rotor like that again.Winds where only blowing maybe 10-15 aloft.Made me think twice about getting another reflex profile thats for damn sure!

      But in the manual of let's say Viper XC it says that all maneuvers in an SIV must be done with trims fully in.

    It looks like the wind is right to left. There is a lee from cliffs to sea. When he hits turbolence from right rock he takes a collapse. It is due from mountain , it has a snowcape so cold air rushes down to sea. It is called bura in our region.

      The wind was coming a bit from the glacer. I am the lucky pilot 😂. Not from the sea.

    Nobody should be flying over that terrain. If something goes wrong, it goes wrong fast and your chances are surviving are very slim.

      Im sure it would have been an no issue on a big floatie dominator or A wing only prob is they are slow as all get up.
