Great stuff, as always! Open G certainly sounds better. Those ringing chords give the song its color. Thanks!

I personally like std version. If you want that open G "twang", just transpose chords to barred higher on the neck rather than mostly open 1st. Position.

Thanks man, I've been playing it standard for a while, but it wasn't quite right. Lately I've been using open G a lot, so this is great.

These are damn good lessons. The thing I really appreciate is there is no overbearing personality just dying for recognition. We could walk by this cat at the Rite Aide and not even know. While it would be neat to put a face to it I love not having to deal with "Party Marty" and all the nonsense associated with that nonsense. So yeah, thanks a lot for taking the time to do these.

This song sounds so much better in the open G tuning. It also gives one the opportunity to add a lot of fills that are fun to play. Thanks so much for this video.

I started learning guitar in 1970 on my mates dad's acoustic guitar. My mate had it tuned in open g, and was playing its all over now. I thought it was brill, simple and so effective

I just listened to your last message on PT, I have been out of guitar mode for awhile but I am glad I found you here because you are the best guitar teacher. So sorry for the grief you have to deal with for just helping people play, so it is a long time coming, before the dawn. Thank you for the great work you do.

Alot of your lessons have a link that only shows your guitar so I am always psyched when I stumble on a lesson I am searcing for and I find one of yours. Always a challenge for me but you break it down in a cool way so I can at least play it in a couple hours. Thanks for taking the time. I hope you are giving lessons privately as well.

I saw your last video from your prior channel and wanted to thank you for not hanging up your hat. Your lessons suit me perfectly. Also, I put my drop d capo on at the 2nd fret with the high E left open(upside down from normal). This puts you in A instead of G but too my ear this helps the standard tuning version out quit a bit. The high E gives nice suspensions and unisons more like an open tuning. Good for those of us who are lazy about retuning. A regular capo will work as well if your careful.

I always played this in standard tuning and always watched Keith play it live in opened - G and I always wondered how Keith structured the A & B minor cords and the C major to the F major for the guitar brake in opened - G. You gave a nice clear descriptive break down for the open G version of Wild Horses - Bravo !! THKS !!

I’ve been playing open G for 40 years and it never occurred to tune the 6th string up to G. I usually leave it as E for the root/drone of an E chord. Your ear is perfect. I picked up a few things watching your videos. Thank you.

Thanks for the great tutorial James. The Genesee beer sign takes me back to Buffalo NY when I was a kid. We always stayed at a cabin near Sherkston shores (Thunder Bay) in Ontario. My Uncles , my Dad and Mom always had big coolers full of Genesee beer on ice when we had cookouts. They had no idea that my cousin and I were sneaking beer into the woods. A couple tipsy 13 year old kids making the best of one of those family vacations.

Read an interview with Keith Richards, he woke up one night with the chorus Wild Horses screaming in his head. So he capped off the line with "couldn't drag me away". He brought the idea to Jagger and Mick completed the verses. Song was originally intended by Keith to be about his newborn son that he was leaving to go on tour. But Mick made it a love in trouble song. There was mention that Graham Parsons sat in on a session and may have contributed in some way. He was actually the first to release the song.

Another thing you can do is tune too Open D or E and capo up too G, or in my case F because it suits my voice better, same chord shapes just different intervals.

"Wild Horses" was always a Stones jewel. Gram Parsons was involved in the writing and his Flying Burrito Brothers actually performed the song live before The Stones did and I believe that The Flying Burrito Brothers did it at the infamously tragic 1969 Altamont free concert and that was of course before STICKY FINGERS was released in 1971. Mick Taylor is credited with the Nashville-tuned acoustic guitar. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_Horses_(Rolling_Stones_song) 😷
