I had a 1969 Daytona Yellow Stingray when I was a senior in high school in 1988. Now I'm 53, retired, and have a 2014 Laguna Blue Stingray, exactly like the one you reviewed a couple years back.

I had a ‘71 LT-1, 4:11 gears, M-22 “rock crusher” trans. My next door neighbor had a ‘70 LT-1 with the same 4:11 and M-22. Did we ever have some great rides!!! But we never dreamed they would someday be considered ho-hum in acceleration. My 2017 Malibu Premier 2.0 liter turbo 4 cylinder is quicker to 60 (at 5.7 seconds) than my 71 but not quite as quick as his 70. And a new C8 Vette will do it in 2.9 seconds with the base engine. This gorgeous 1970 454 takes 6.3. How technology has advanced.

A beautiful car. But to have a 454, 4-speed and AC! I fortunately have many memories of these cars. I went shopping for one in the early 70s. Test drove many new and used versions. I never found that combination; the closest was a 71 454 with AC, but it was an automatic. Although I wanted a 4 speed, I needed AC more since I lived in a hot, humid area. So, I ended up with an automatic. The C3 was one of the best cars I have owned - trouble free, no leaks (most cars leaked after a few years - seals weren't like they are now) - and that Turbo-Hydramatic 400 was bullet proof.

I bought my wife her birth year 1970 Corvette manual 454 with AC and T top. Our engine bay has a bit more chrome. It was born in Donnybrook green color, but a custom paint job was done in 1983 and it was airbrushed with a Star Wars/Atari video game look. It has a T fighter on the hood flying towards you and on the inside of the hood the T fighter is flying away from you. 40+ awards later the lacquer paint is showing its age, but now it's a surviver. We love the theme too much to get it painted. We still have people oogle over the car! It's still stock except for mufflers and some handling stuff.

Great review Joe. Shouda popped headlights up as c3 was the last time popups looked as good up as down. Also coulda mentioned back window comes out & exhaust sounds even better, air flows better thru the car too then. I had a '69 & prefer gills over egg crates slightly. 1970 started rock guards built into the fenders which will save the paint some. Shoulda mentioned fiber optic lamp warning system that should be on every car today as cheap & indestructible as it is & about to disappear forever in 2 years.
Still a beautiful example right there & bound to be expensive. Thanks Joe, you have great taste in cars & see you again on the next one.

You can add modern conveniences to these cars and '75 and before are presmog as in you can place any engine in your car, even in California. That's why they are classics. They can easily compete with these modern cars. Also pop up headlights are the best kind of headlights in my opinion. Can't get that in modern cars anymore unfortunately.

The C3 optional "N14" side mounted exhaust (sidepipes) were ONLY a 1969 option...

Starting in 1970 the fenders were more flared so the factory sidepipes became only a 1 year option.

I bought a 1970 big block coupe at the age of 21. It was Bridge Hampton blue with blue interior. It had a four speed, power steering , am/fm radio. 3:08 pos. Rear. I installed the side pipes from the sixty nine . They were not an option in ‘70. The left exhaust header was different on the 454 vs the 427 and needed to have the left pipe cut and welded to fit. She turned 13.45 in the quarter at the local drag strip. She stickered at around $6,200.00. I kept it for eleven years and almost 100,000 smiles and sold it for twice what I paid for it. I still remember cruising in my Vette and taking it on the back road twisties to practice. I taught my wife to be how to drive a stick with it. The T roofs never leaked on mine. She was truly a dream come true for me. I remember er as a small boy when the 53 Vette came out and fell in love with them. I built plastic models of all the years as I grew up. After graduating form college I bought my dream car. Thank you for the memories.

Love this video Joe! I have a 71 454 LS5 4spd Coupe in Bridgehampton Blue. Had a frame on done 12 years back and the drivetrain is all original with 88k miles on it. They are so much fun to drive and a great throwback to those days. Nothing like the smell of fuel being dumped into a carburetor!! The back window was also nicknamed a sugar scoop window as that’s what it resembles. Also, not sure if you knew the rear window pops out and fits into a large glove box like tray in the back. It’s not that easy getting them back in though. Besides the headlights popping up the windshield wipers are hidden as well and pop out when in use. If you’re ever in NJ more than welcome to take mine for a run!! The C3 Big Blocks were the best with the LT-1 as well. They’re still undervalued in today’s collector car market.

What about the 1971 LS6 Vette. It would blow this 1970 into the weeds !

No, because the LS6 wasn’t available until 1971

Is it my monitor or is the car actually looks orange? You didn't stop at the stop sign 12:20.

In 1970 a passenger side mirror was an option, rust proofing was an option.

Id argue (and be serious) that its not even an opinion thing. 68-72 stingrays were the coolest sports cars ever put out, and 70 had the best engines. I guess the big block 454 was the biggest one. So yes. That’s factually the coolest factory build there is.
Personally I like 68/69 more tucked fender flares and side vents a very tiny tad bit even more as well as the lights on a 68. I prefer it bare- so no side pipes or back rack, and I’d go for a black, white, green, yellow, or burgundy coupe. I also prefer the small block hoods.. but obviously would take a big block over them for whats under it as long as it was 68-70. After that the big blocks weren’t as powerful as even the small blocks had been in those years because of the new regulations.. so.. Id go for a 69. Just about the same power but tomato tomahto if I had any 68-72 shark I’D DRIVE IT EVERY FRICKEN DAY!!!

Joe, if we ever get a chance to go back in time, we're going to have to rename the window roller and call it a "window regulator". It just seems like a more proper name. 😂

Funny...for so long the C3 was the mullet of corvettes and performance cars in general. Now guys are seeing them for what they are and are rising in price, even the rubber bumpered ones. Now the C4 is kinda the basement corvette. Funny how tastes change. I bought a C3 in 97 and attitudes have really changed since then
