  • @Brigand231

This was the first trailer we looked at and thought, "Yeah, we could live in this thing." ...and then we looked at the 22MKE, and then the 2600RB, and now we're looking at fifth wheels... but consistently, as we looked at bigger and "better" units, the Grand Design aesthetic continued to give us a feeling of warmth and "home" as we looked at the trailers. The commitment to quality and utility of space and features also spoke to us as looked at more and more units. Around the same time, we started watching different UA-camrs that also happened to be Grand Design brand ambassadors for their different lines and we only heard good things from them and their communities. We've seen them have problems and issues, even so far as trees falling on a fifth wheel, and Grand Design has ALWAYS been happy to step up and work with folks on their own timetable. The Grand Design community has been amazingly friendly to folks making inquiries like us and we see video proof of Grand Design providing great customer service by taking sign-ups to fix items for folks that attend their rallies, free of charge and regardless of the age of the unit.
As far as the cubbies in the bathroom with no doors, deal with it Uncle Josh, we like those! We like you more, though, so we'll still take you out to dinner if you visit. I prefer outlets on the underside of the upper cabinets or sides of nearby cabinets over being on the counter itself or towers/pyramids/lillypads of power on the countertop because spills happen in real life and smooth countertops are also easier to wipe down.
Oh! Yes, we appreciate the fact that you open all the cabinets and drawers and demonstrate beds and stuff like that very much!!! I was watching a video on the other Bish channel the other day and the person giving the tour actually said the words, "I'm not going to open up the rest of the stuff to show you" and my first thought was "then why should I bother to pay your company potentially six figures for this fifth wheel?"! We've seen tours with other presenters that do not demonstrate how beds, or happijacks, or how things look in road mode and are forced to find out from other sources if the way those things work are happy for us or not. In most cases, it's not a huge deal, but there have been a few that have caused us to remove the unit being reviewed from consideration.
Hope you're having a good break, see you when you get back!

My wife and I bought this model last year as a early 2022 so we missed out on the standard solar package and 12 volt fridge so we were disappointed about that but over all for a couples camper it’s beyond perfect the only thing I have an issue with is the mattress it’s like sleeping on a concrete slab but I’m 6’4” 275 pounds so for most people it’s probably fine as my wife had no complaints about it and the fact that in travel mode you have access to all the necessities and with the theater seating the recliners are just fine for taking a cat nap on a stop if needed it’s a great unit.

We dropped in to a Grand Design dealership at Strawberry Plains near Knoxville, TN.Just to have a quick look at buying our first Travel Trailer. Previously we travelled all over Europe, Africa and New Zealand in a custom built VW high top bus. Well my wife listed off all the things she wanted in a trailer, including a gas oven, two-door fridge freezer, recliner, non-wet bathroom. I said your not going to get all that in reasonable sized trailer. Then they showed us the Imagine XLS 17 MKE. I couldn't believe it ticked ALL our boxes and more. That and the quality, length and weight sold it to us. Now waiting for delivery.

This camper was high on our choice list however a few things stop us from buying it. Don’t like that you can’t put the bed down with the slide in. Don’t like that you can’t recline the theatre seat closest to the bed when the bed is down. RV Queen size bed not good unless you’re short. Not fond of the esthetic look of the mattress/bedding showing when the bed is up, looks sloppy. Many people hang tapestries to cover that but don’t like the look. The kitchen is fabulous, that is the big pro of this camper. Great storage in and out for the size of the camper. Decent bathroom. I do wish they would come out with a different color interior then all brown. I do think this camper is a lot of bang for the buck and a great couples camper. Agree with you on preferring the East West 1900 MMK.

@@JoshtheRVNerd The Alta is 3ft longer though. The Grand Design MKE17 packs more punch for its small size under 22’. It’s a shame on the Alta that kitchen window doesn’t open, that’s a deal breaker. I’d rather have 2 windows that open then one large window that doesn’t. Neither the Alta or the GD nailed it. It’s to bad, so close.

OH MY GOODNESS! HOW DID I MISS THIS ONE????
My wife and I had a great time at the Quad Cities Bish's, and saw a LOT of Grand Designs, but somehow we missed this one entirely! Now I'll have to go back and check it out!
We were REALLY impressed with the Alta with the same floor plan that we DID see, so much so that it made our list of RV's to seriously consider when it comes to buy. But now we have some serious competition for that trailer!
    Here's my initial impressions:
    - Grand Design does a better job than Alta on the Murphy bed design and implementation.
    - Alta does a much better job on the kitchen, thanks to that GIANT window and better positioned outlets.
    - Alta has a really nice wardrobe/pantry next to the bathroom that Grand Design lacks.
    - But Grand Design does a better job with storage areas around the bed....
I really enjoyed our visit to Quad Cities Bish's, and this will make a good excuse to go back! I'm looking for a trailer AND/OR fifth wheel less that 30' in length, and preferably able to be hauled by a half-ton truck. (Though I will most likely use a 3/4 ton truck...) I plan on TRAVELING with my trailer, so the super size wonders, as much as I love them, are not going to make my list of finalists.
Been having a fun time going back through your videos, and picking out all my favorites. Some Rockwoods and Jayco's are on my list of finalists, but I don't remember seeing any of those brands in Iowa. Looks like a trip to Coldwater, Michigan might be in order....
Interesting note: I live in Illinois, and the distance I drive to go to the Quad City Bish's is just ten miles less than if I were to drive in the other direction to Middlebury, Indiana and visited the Grand Design factory in person!
NOTE TO EVERYONE: If you are interested in any Grand Design, the Quad City dealership is amazing in terms of SIZE and models carried. Well worth a visit if you are anywhere in the midwest. Even if you aren't interested in Grand Design, it's worth visiting anyway! They do have other brands in stock.
Thank you SO MUCH for all these wonderful videos you make! They are so helpful!

We had purchased this trailer during Covid and it was a beautiful trailer and we loved it after the factory corrected all the things that were wrong with it. Straight from the factory it had a pocket door that was gouged out from a nail pop. The factory shipped the wrong door to the dealer three times. All the decals has air bubbles and it took 8 months to repair. We were going to keep it after all that happen but then we found someone had filled up the black tank. So we purchased a used trailer that we thought was new from the factory. Turns out, the delivery service that Grand Designed hired, stayed overnight in our brand new trailer instead of using a hotel.

    Nice Layout!
I do wish they would have converted the fart fan in the kitchen to a real fan. The larger fans not only move more air, but they are also very quiet at low speed which is nice when you want to move air through the trailer while you sleep. I understand you could upgrade, but if it were installed at the factory, the fan would be covered with the trailer warranty. I am looking at this and the Alta / Surveyor variants, to be fair the Alta is nice but it is 3' longer and 500 lbs heavier. We OWN this one and love it!! We have the one with the “U” shaped table in the slide out. We’ve had it since May. We come from a C class after getting the cat converter SAWED OFF 2 x in 3 months. But it pulls very well with my Silverado 1500. Bathroom is very nice. Shower is tall enough for a 6’ person. Open cabinets are great. Need some kind of lighting inside the cabinets to see items.

The downside of watching too many of Josh's videos is that eventually you will find a trailer with one more feature you wish the one you bought had!
That happened here now to me.
I bought a 200mk That only has the theater seats....I need both the seats AND the dinette
This has them! ! The only consolation I take is that. I got a great deal on the 200 M. K. And I think that this model would be very hard to get at the price point that I got the 200mk by many thousand dollars, putting it way above my limit.......So, I am good. I am going to remove the middle home theater seat And put the table there...., then I will have both the dinette AND two home theater seats!
Not your fault Josh... You can't help it if you're a natural entertainer!

We have never owned a pull trailer but have had 3 motorhomes over the years. We currently have no RV but are actively researching. We plan to do some extended traveling once my wife retires in the next year.
We have a 3/4 ton so we can pull a heavier trailer, but we don't want anything over 30' for towability and getting into state parks. I think we'd like something similar to this but a little longer.
The Murphy is fine, but I don't want a short queen. I like the layout on this unit. The bathroom is a bit skimpy, the TV is too high, and the bed is short, but I like it overall.
My wife and I watch your videos and really enjoy the detail. We live in GA but would certainly consider purchasing from your company when we decide to pull the trigger.
Enjoy your vacation. You are 100% correct. The time you have available with your family is limited. No matter how important you are to your company, they will replace you in a month. Your family...not so much.

I don't think there is a bad way to do outlets as long as they are there. Worst case scenario you get a shorty extension cord of a suitable wire gauge. Whatever solution they use it's going to work well sometimes and be suboptimal other times.

Cool little trailer. I too, am 6'2", and I don't think I'd like the camp queen. To me, the demos you do are an essential part of the videos, especially the shower height, as it's hard to judge dimensions in a video otherwise. All in all, a great weekender rv, but I'd hate to have to fold up the bed everyday.

This was number 2 pick for us. We settled on a Flagstaff 21FBRS (Rockwood S2109). The fail with the MKE17 is the bed needs to be up in order to have the slide in. This was something we did not want. We like ours because everything is accessible with the slide in. This is important for a wayside rest snooze on the road or a late night arrival when you just did not want to do a full setup until morning. Thanks for your reviews. I feel like I owe you a lunch!
