      Wow!!!! Carol thank you so much 😊, that means so much to us. We really just want to inspire others to get out and make those precious moments and memories. Life is too short and the 22MLE is a great tool to do that. Being that you have watched dozens of videos on this trailer, are you looking at getting one? It really is a great trailer. Thank you again for the great comments and thank you for watching. Tim and Virginia

      @@Safemaker1 Yes, I am planning on buying one once I sell my fifth wheel and my little Rialta RV. My husband has a slow terminal cancer, and so we need to get our affairs in order. I am a campaholic, so I will always travel and camp but he can no longer travel, so this whole process is bittersweet. The 22mle will be my ninth camper, so I've got lots of history with camping. Your videos inspire me when I can't be on the road myself!

Yea, space and weight is the name of this game. Jim, we tow with a 2020 Ram 1500 LoneStar. We use a Blu Ox 1,000 lbs weight distribution hitch. This system tows nicely and all is level. Watch our other video “Going to get our new RV” and you can also see the weights as we use the CAT scales before, during, and after the RV and with and without a weight distribution hitch. Appreciate this real-life type of video. I have had a 40' fifth wheel and a diesel dually for a few years, living full time. I have recently settled, somewhat, into a south Texas "Port Home"... a smallish Casita with a large, full-hookup driveway for the RV. Now I've started to wonder why I need such a big RV and more so, why I need a dually as a daily driver. Time to downsize? This floorplan caught my eye; seeing it used in real life gives me a much better concept of its potential. Thank you. Cause for concern, though... a Schwintek slide.

    • @Safemaker1

      Hi Where the Road Leads, we are so glade you enjoyed the video. We try hard to keep it real and share it real. With this open layout, the recliners, kitchen dinette, and all the storage …… we find that we don’t need much more than some good food and a cold one. The more we travel, Virginia and I realize that it’s more about just getting out there than it is about the trailer. Some of our best times were in a tent. Don’t get me wrong….. we love the trailer, but we enjoy the great outdoors together better. What ever you choose, 40’ or 22’……1/2 ton or dually…. we hope to see you out there making precious moments. Comment back when you make that final decision. We’ll be cheering for ya. Tim and Virginia

      @@Safemaker1 I'll admit though, I'm still on the fence with the 22MLE/23LDE.. Con of the 23LDE model is two dump locations, and that it's 3 feet longer... Be well!!

    • @Safemaker1
      @Safemaker1  Місяць тому +1

      @The1833FarmhouseFerals yea, that was in the running when we were looking. The three cons that caused us to not pick that one was 1) we didn’t like the bathroom in the middle that blocks walk through during use even though there is another o/s door. 2) When the slide is in you loose access to the stove, bathroom, and bedroom. This was a no go for us because of quick overnight Walmart or parking lot sleep overs with the slide in. 3) it was too long to fit in our driveway for upkeep, maintenance, and pre-trip preparations. Otherwise it was one of the top contenders. But you have to make your own choice based on your preference and requirements. Good luck it is a hard choice. What is most important is just getting out there and making those precious moments and memories. Hope to see you guys out there no matter what model. Let your heart be your conscious. In our RV we also had a time finding a place for the trash bag.
    We ended up using grocery store bags with the little handles on the top. We then opened our lower cabinet door and there was a latch affair that was attached to the top corner of each door we would hook one handle of the bag over that latch bring the bag over the top of the door, close the door and you now have a very convenient trash bag and they’re free. When it’s full of course tie the handles together placed them in the dumpster. Super easy no waste baskets to deal with, no bags to buy. If you don’t have a latch at the top of your door, maybe add a little hook either screwed in or stick on. We’ve used this option for over 13 years in our motorhome and love it. PS also no more bending down to fill or empty it😂😂

    Just found your channel and am loving your videos. We've pretty much decided on the 22MLE as it tends to check off all the boxes for us. I like how you added the hooks to the storage area; looks like it really helps keep it organized. How do you feel you RAM tows the 22MLE - what is the payload on your truck? TIA.

    • @Safemaker1
      @Safemaker1  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Thomas, sorry for the delay. We are so thankful that you like our videos. We love our 22MLE, it checked off all our boxes too. Our Ram 1500 tows fine with a weight distribution hitch. However it is approximately 75% of the max payload when everything is loaded, including ourselves. The truck has a payload limit of 1735. The hook system we bought at Walmart and it has helped a lot. Just be sure you screw it into the studs and not just the paneling. We especially like how with just a push of a button we can change out the individual hook types. Best of luck on making your decision. Comment back once you do. We are excited to know what you choose. Tim and Virginia.

      It's my 2nd RAM 1500 and both with the RAMBOX option. I do wish I had the Quad Air Suspension my 1st one had. But the 1st one had the V6 engine and only towed modest sailboats and Pop-Up camper.
      I'm very pleased with the overall power towing the 22MLE. However, even with a very nice load leveling hitch, I wish she handled the tongue weight better. My tongue weight can get over 700 lbs loaded. I'm seriously considering moving my battery inside under the bed. That 50lbs moved 5' would be 250 ft-lbs improvement.
      What changes have you and Virginia made to Lilly?

    Thanks for putting this together. I recently found and subscribed to your channel so I'm still catching up. Showing how you actually use your trailer is very helpful! One thing we're wondering about is "door vs curtain" for the bedroom as we are making a decision on a trailer. I haven't found any videos showing what it looks like "behind the curtain". How you deal with one person sleeping in while the other is up and around or if someone is a night owl. Just a thought as you produce more videos. Thanks! Pat

    • @Safemaker1
      @Safemaker1  2 роки тому

      Hi PSinnovations, we are so happy you found us and thank you so much for watching our videos and subscribing. Door vs curtains is a great question. I say that because when we were looking for a trailer Virginia was absolutely set on we must have a separate bedroom with a door. After looking at so many different trailers, we came to realize that a separate bedroom seemed to feel very small and claustrophobic. They also typically require two AC’s which then bumps you up to 50amps. The fact that Virginia and I would be alone 95% of the time we decided a separate bedroom is not required. I say this because we typically get up and go to bed at the same time. And to be honest, in most any trailer when one person gets up and starts walking around regardless of a door, the other person is going to hear and feel the trailer movement. so when we saw the open layout of the 22MLEE, we just knew this was the one. The whole thing just seems so much bigger without a separate bedroom. The separated bedrooms always seem so small to us. As for the curtain, honestly we have never used it yet. if it is just the two of you and you don’t expect guests but once a year you may get better value with the open space and atmosphere. Bottom line, this is a very personal choice but hopefully this will give you some ideas. Thanks again and we wish you the best in choosing your rig. Let us know what you finally decided on. I think this would make a good video in the future…. door vs curtain. Hope to see you guys out there on the road. Tim and Virginia

    Really enjoy your insights. This has been very informative. We just got the same trailer and are excited to implement some of the ideas you use. I do have a question for you. What is your opinion on getting and extended warranty? Did you get one? If so, do you have recommendations? (Dealer, other like Good Sam, etc.)?

    • @Safemaker1
      @Safemaker1  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Ecker, a big CONGRATULATIONS on the new trailer……..and……Welcome to the 22MLE Cub! It is truly one of the best out there. We did get an extended warranty. It was offered through the dealer. We purchased our rig through ExplorUSA San Antonio. Basically they offered three levels of warranty. Low, medium and high. We purchased the medium level as we didn’t feel we needed the high end items like fabric stain coatings, exterior wax sealant, etc. I would simply recommend that you do your homework as you are doing now, and choose the one you best think fits your situation. Each can be so different. Another recommendation I would offer if you have the ability is to create your own personal emergency fund. This is good for quick easy fixes as warranty issues may be in the form of reimbursements if you are on the road and you don’t want to interrupt your trip at the time. Especially if it’s minor. Thank you so much for watching our videos and again congratulations. Hope to see you out there making precious memories. Tim and Virginia. We are so excited for y’all.

    • @Safemaker1
      @Safemaker1  Рік тому

      Hi Rodboatwright, thank you so much for watching our video. We looked at the LDE also we just favored the open concept of the MLE better. Yea we have what I would call a black plastic cup in the floor at the corner of the slide area. It does have a flex hole in the bottom of the black plastic cup which allows for the electrical wiring to come through. The flex hole is kinda large for the one wire. We typically put a stainless steel wool pad in there so the mice don’t get through. They won’t chew on the metal. But you have to be absolutely sure that the pad is way down in there so it doesn’t get caught in the slide wheels or tracks. Good luck and hope you find the one that fits you best, and hope to see you out there on the road. Please subscribe if you haven’t already and follow along in our adventures. Tim and Virginia.

Hope all is going good 👍. As for the bike rack, we never did add one to the bumper. It just didn’t seem strong enough. Our two bikes are very heavy. We never did ask the dealer. Congratulations again, let us how things are going and thank you so much for watching our videos. Tim and Virginia.

    Enjoyed the video! We have the Cougar 22RBS. Watching you hook up your BS griddle to the gas makes me wonder why these RV designers (including Keystone) insist on putting so much of the hardware in positions that require the user to get down on their hands and knees. My old knees don’t like that!

    • @Safemaker1
      @Safemaker1  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Patrick, thank you so much for watching our video. My knees feel your pain…..lol. They do put some of this hardware in hard to reach positions. In fact, I have to admit I had to cut the video at that very point because it took two hands and two try’s to push the hose in the quick connect fitting. So, you definitely caught that edit…..just keeping it real, pain and all. The fresh water dump valve is almost a full arms length underneath. But hey, we all have to get our exercise in somehow…. Lol. Hope you guys are enjoying your Cougar, we were looking closely at that one too. Hope you are out there making precious memories regardless of Brand names. We hope to see you out there on the road and maybe… just maybe one of the design engineers will hear our pain. Please don’t forget to subscribe if you haven’t already and smash that like button. Hi Tim! We saw your video on the XLS 22MLE. Ironically we looked at one yesterday. Thinking about buying it. We really liked it. You actually explained it better than the salesman. I was wondering if you have any problems towing it with your TV. I have a 1/2 ton Ford F150 with turbo boost. Do you think it would handle the weight of this trailer okay? Is this an all season camper?

    • @Safemaker1
      @Safemaker1  Рік тому +2

      Hi Two Peas in a Pod…… love the name. We don’t have any problems with our tow vehicle although we are at approximately 75-80% of the trucks payload capacity. As far as it’s tow capacity we have plenty of capacity left. I think it can pull 11,000lbs plus and the trailer only weighs in at 5,500lbs and maybe another 1,000lbs of our stuff. But tow capacity is never usually the limiting aspect, it is always the payload capacity. You will have to seek this out from your tow vehicle’s capacity. Be careful as this changes with different models and trim packages. Hope this helps and thank you for watching our videos. Be safe…. Tim and Virginia

      Hi RT, wow that is so exciting, two weeks. We absolutely love our 22MLE. You must be so excited for that day to come. We remember it well. As far as pulling with our truck, we use a weight distribution anti sway hitch that helps a lot. Our Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi pulls just fine. As far as payload weight, we are pretty close once the trailer is loaded with all our stuff. We have around 300-400 lbs capacity left. So the weight distribution hitch really does the job. Overall, the half ton trucks work but most 1/2 ton trucks will be around 75% or more of their payload capacity. So check, learn and verify your specific trucks numbers found in the driver’s side door jam. The best way to know is to hit the CAT scale with the truck only, then with the dry trailer, then with the loaded trailer. Best of luck RT, we are so excited for y’all, your going to love it. Do you have your first trip planned? Please subscribe and follow along and please comment back an let us know how you like it. Welcome to the the MLE Club. Hope to see y’all out there …. Congratulations again …… Tim and Virginia

    Why did you choose the Grand Design? Several other manufacturers make a similar floor plan; what motivated you to go with GD?

    • @Safemaker1
      @Safemaker1  Рік тому +2

      Hi Bernie, great question and thank you so much for watching our video. We looked at travel trailers for almost two years an literally went inside over two three hundreds of units. We always kept coming back to the 22MLE. The biggest selling points for us was 1. The open design concept. It felt bigger than most 2. The huge amount of storage. 3. It had both the table dinette and the recliner chairs. 4. The inside color scheme we loved. 5. The overall weight matching to our Ram 1500 payload and towing capacities. 6. It’s length just barely fits in our driveway so we can do maintenance, cleaning and loading at home. 6. Grand A Design seemed to have one of the better reputations of quality and it felt like a hire level of quality when sitting in it at the dealerships. There are a few similar ones out there and we thought about them all, but the 22MLE was the best fit for us. There are many UA-cam videos out there comparing the most similar ones to the 22MLE. Hope this helps and wish you the best on making a decision. Tim and Virginia

    What tow vehicle do you use? Do you know your hitch weight when towing? Thanks

    • @Safemaker1
      @Safemaker1  Місяць тому +1

      Hi Boulder, We pull with a 2020 Ram 1500 Longhorn. The trucks payload capacity limit is between 1700 and 2300 depending on configurations like engine size, type and other equipment options. Mine is 1800 and we are usually around 1400-1500. As for the tow capacity,I think the truck is around 17,000 and our 22MLE comes in around 8000 fully loaded. I hope this helps but I must follow with to be safe you need to do the research for your specific tow vehicle and travel trailer to be accurate. You also need to consider your axle ratings and your tires. Please be safe and do your due diligence for both your safety and the safety of others on the road. Thank you for watching our videos, please subscribe and follow along. Tim and Virginia.

    My only concern is the bedroom right next tv. I’m torn between this one and the LDE MODEL.

    • @Safemaker1
      @Safemaker1  2 роки тому

      Hi Bearfoot, we too looked at the LDE. We didn’t like when the slide is in you can’t get to restroom or bedroom without going outside and around. This becomes important if yo overnight on the road traveling. Like at a Walmart or Cracker Barrel. Also we didn’t like that when the bathroom is in use, no one can pass through the trailer. This is why we went with the MLE. But each person has their own individual needs and preferences. Good luck and let us know which one you choose. And thank you for watching our videos. I have found the build quality of our 2022 22MLE to be marginal (2 of the 3 hot water heater bypass valves were encapsulated in the foam) and the trailer is small for me, I am 6'2" (average weight) and feel cramped while standing. The bathroom sink is unusable for anything but handwashing and we have already replaced the foam for the dinette. The recliner feels like a 7/8 scale for me. First thing I do before leveling is checking the AC avoiding a poor power source and moving a leveled trailer. And I would sure like to know how you transport your bikes !!! Nice vid thanks.

    • @Safemaker1
      @Safemaker1  Рік тому

      Hi MarkSDCA, thank you so much for watching our video. yea the build quality of any brand of travel trailer is marginal. As you know if you looked at any amount or trailers that this is typical throughout the industry, but of most brands the Grand A Design tends to come out on top. As for our bikes we just throw them in the bed of the truck. Please subscribe for more videos if you liked this one. Hope to see you out there on the road. Tim and Virginia

    Noticed you where towing with the Ram 1500. How did it do? We've been towing our wildwood 23rbs with a ram and it's seems to struggle up steep grades. Our last 3300 mile trip with lots of passes we only averaged 9 mps's.

    • @Safemaker1
      @Safemaker1  2 роки тому

      Hi Jason, so sorry for the delayed response to your comments. Yes, we tow with a 2020 Ram 1500. We haven't had any real problem with it. It seems to have plenty of horses when it comes to pulling however, we are in Texas and most roads are pretty flat around here. We do get into the hill country periodically and it seems to do fine. It will down shift in tow mode for some of the big highway hills, but we tend to keep it around 55-60 and do well. If we were going to Utah and Colorado, we may have a different opinion as it is all relative to the size of the hills/mountains. We average around 10 mpg taking it really easy. We have discussed potentially a 2500 maybe in the future if we state traveling the states. Jason, thank you so much for watching our video and if you haven't already, please subscribe and hit that like button. We are so glad to hear you are out there doing it yourselves. Hope to see you out there at the camp sites one day. Tim and Virginia.

      Hi Anthony, we operate with a 2020 Ram 1500 with a 5.7 Hemi (410 hp) and eight speed automatic transmission with a 3.92 rear end. You will have to dig up the specific specifications for your truck, trim model, engine, transmission and rear end ratio to match the trailer. Both towing and payload limits that can usually be found on the specifications sticker on the driver’s door jam. You will also need to ensure the truck has trailer brakes. Thank you for watching our videos. Be sure to do your due diligence, safety first. Tim and Virginia

      Hi Sibuck, sorry for the delay. Yes we tow with a 2020 Ram 1500 and it does just fine. We are within all cargo, axles, and pull capacities. Just barely on the cargo capacity. The truck rates in at 1800lbs on cargo capacity and we come in just around 1500 including us, gear and a full tank of fuel. If we were driving and traveling long distances and or through the Rocky Mountains I think I would recommend a Ram 2500 vs the 1500. I hope this helps.
