Thank you Dr.Tara, very helpful! This is such a huge issue for many of us, a second part would be awesome... basically we use these movements everywhere. Getting in the car, in the shower, walking upstairs.. Would it be possible to show some exercises without the core max (I don't have it) for lifting the leg seated and while standing. Please keep doing videos on gait training, if you can. Maybe limping would be a good future topic. Thank you so much 😊

Hi Tara, thanks for your continued perseverance to help everyone! I am left side paralyzed from a stroke. I still walk; with the dreaded hemi-walker. To this point, my left leg trouble is not being able to bend the leg backward at the knee(or slide foot back isolated at the knee);also, unable to rotate left foot side to side. But I can stand and bear weight on the left leg and step forward (from the hip).

I survived a brain hemorrhage in 2020 resulted in hemiplegia affecting my left side, was unable to perform exercises regularly duo to lock down that resulted in very slow recovery I watch your videos and practice most of the exercises and could see significant improvement in walking and hand movements. Though i walk daily my knee is not bending while walking and my leg makes a small swing
I would like to know on how to fix this. Really appreciate your time and effort. You are doing a great job please keep it going.

  • @JLP72517

Hi Tara, I really could relate to your explanation of how the leg lift exerciser works.
My problem is caused by a tear in my hip labrum, that I didn’t discover til I had an MRI 2 years afterwards. I feel I have spasticity even though I don’t believe I have brain or spinal cord trauma.
Do you believe that in my case these same exercises are the best? Wondering if I can expect to ever walk with the freedom of not having to be conscious of making sure that my leg is moving forward.
It is especially hard going up stairs with a 6” or more riser.

Hi Dr Tara, I had a stroke 6 months ago and while everyone tells me I’m making good progress, a persistent problem with my stroke leg is that the circulation is poor, causing my foot and ankle to be colder than the good leg, also having less feeling. Have you done a video on circulation and have I missed it. By the way, I can’t believe how many of the problems you deal with are exactly what I suffer with, You’re the best. Thanks.

Thank you, Dr Tobias, this video has been an eye opener for me. The point you made about our focus point is great i.e. focusing while walking on lifting the leg, bending the knee ect, could be causing the spasticity to kick in. You mentioned that we need to focus on relaxing the leg and knee. I've been doing that the past couple of days and have noticed a big difference, thank you once again for your insight

Now all of the sudden my leg has started giving me problems when I am walking at different times during the day. I do not experience pain, just problems when I am walking, and it doesn't last long at all, maybe 10mins, and then walking normalizes. I also work out without any problems... please help.

💜🌸💜 Super exercises, Dr. Tara! I do them regularly while in bed morning and evening at the recommendation of my PT here in Germany. In the beginning, the leg stiffened and stretched out with spastics. But with the months, the muscles build up and spastics reduces. Now it is easy and almost not any more in a side angle. It's just repetition and sticking to it. It gets better over time and it so much helps the walking practices.
Many greetings to you and to doggie Chico! 🌸💜🌸

I can self assist while sitting but I don't have the balance to do so while standing. Lastly does the coremax help accomplish the repetitions needed for marching?

Back surgery 20 years ago left me with a damanged nerve and lost muscle. On the same side, a bad toe (2 surgeries) so I don't have a good gait. However, hoping new foot doctor will evaluate for rocker shoes (as PT suggested) ...but the locked leg is relatively new after sitting too much during Covid. Have made progress with hips but the glutes on the affected side don't fire well...combined with stiffness in the ankle/bad toe. EEK! Without a machine, can you use a infatable ball to step on and then relax up??

How can I strengthen my leg from the hip to the foot?? Severe foot drop and nerve damage in the entire leg up to the lower back. Laminectomy with fusion L2L3L4L5.
My entire leg is beginning to atrophy.
    Should I see a neurologist??
I have been through three courses of PT.
    Any thoughts??

Thank you for watching and for this question! If I use a product in a video (and it is something they sell on Amazon) you can find a link for it in the description of that video. I hope that helps!

Hi Dr Tara, thank you so much for your awesome videos. I have MS and I have been sitting on the wheelchair most of the time for the last 3 years. I didn't realize that prolonged sitting has weakened my legs and affected my ability to walk again 😢. I am now unable to lift my legs at all too. Would walking in the pool make it easier?

If you don't know about Trevor Wicken and the MS gym I would encourage you to look it up.

@Helen Murdoch yes I follow the MS Gym too, but I find that most of his exercises are quite advanced and I'm not able to do them. 😢. My legs are extremely weak, almost like paralysed.

@@sswsa3980 Sorry to hear that. I hope you find something or someone who can help you. Maybe a muscle therapist could help you release muscles in your legs - or an electric hand held massager. You have probably tried these options.

Thank you dear @Helen Murdoch. I've just started my own therapy with the help from my husband. Been to the pool and attempting to walk very, very slowly. Finding it hard, but I hope with regular practice, I'll get better.

@@sswsa3980 Yes you will improve. Then you can start some of the MS gym exercises. The relatively new section 'a la carte' has short videos. I know you could do some of them - there is eye work and breathing yo help with balance as well as upper body stuff. You could gradually work towards leg work and starting reconnect core programme. Good luck. Keep persevering. Believe you can do this and stay positive.
