- This 8 minute documentary short was filmed in the summer of 2007. It features footage of German craftsmen making the Puma White Hunter, a famous knife worldwide. It also includes a short interview with the designer Heinz-Peter Knoop.
There were no special effects used for the audio besides slow motion.

I take great pride in knowing I own a blade made by these craftsmen. It's good to see that there are people who can still make things by hand.
Great knife. I purchased one several years ago. The craftsmanship is impressive. To me it is a functional work of art. Similar to a fine shotgun or well made fly rod.

I have a 1971 model puma white hunter....bought it off a good friend of mine....once you have held one of these knives in your hand...you never want to let it go. The feel of the knife, the balance and functionality are incredible. It is by far, the best knife in the world.
knowing that this knife is close by is very empowering. After seeing this video it really shows you the time that is put into the masterpiece that is, the Puma White hunter.
I paid $5.00 U.S. at a yard sale for an untouched Puma Skinner 15 yrs ago. Best buy I have ever made
since the 70s when i was a teen i wanted see where the great knives were made thank you all involved with the making of this vid pumas are legendary knives you should all be proud your making gifts past down for genarations father to son grandfather to grandson thank you.
Incredible, I bought one at a garage sale when I was fifteen years old, that was over 40 years ago, and yes I still have it. No box but I do have the leather sheath. Very heavy but very beautiful. I had no idea of its value or ore importantly its craftsmanship.

All my hunting knives are Puma. I have one in my safe for collecting for every knife I use in the field. My collection of Puma knives is somewhere about 30it knives? My favorite being the Catamount. Great knives, great company.
Was recently gifted one of these by my aunt, who got it when my grandfather passed away. Made in the mid 90s and still mint in box, I can't bring myself to use it
Just bought the Hunters Pal II and the Original Bowie. Really nice. Will keep them forever.
I have one made late 1967, bought used. A great knife,too bad my dog decided to use the original sheath as a chew toy. All the puma knives I've owned were made in Germany,they took an edge an held it .
My Puma Buffalo Hunter is beautiful. Don't even want to take it out of the box unless I'm showing it off. The plastic wrap never came off the knife. I love the look.

I found one of these under the driver seat of my first car...A used fiat sedan.
I wish I had known how hard it was to get hold of a good knife, I lost it some years later and have never found another that remotely compares.
I was the worst knife owner there could be. I chopped down trees, hammered it through wood and frozen meats, and it never once gave me any problems.
I will be getting another because nothing I've come across since comes close.
I wish I'd known that then.

Sharpness isn't a genuine characteristic of a certain knife but a state of maintenance.
My Dad bought me my first White Hunter at a sporting goods store in Grand Junction, Colorado in early 1962, for $16.00! (Or was it Cortez?)
Recently gave it to my youngest son.
Missed the blade, replaced it. More than 16 bucks, I assure you!
My dad gave me my Puma Hunters Friend way back in early 70's in Australia. I think it was some ridiculously cheap price (cf today) but I still have it, it was on many hunting trips and it won't be long before my kid takes it LOL!

I was just looking through my stuff and found a knife my mom got me 15 years or 20 ago from a thrift store cool knife never really used it much. I looked it up its a Sea Hunter 6363 its kind of beat up but still cool

I agree. thats why i bought the german white hunter and bowie .i got to copair the sgb bowie with the german.the sgb had a thicker handle and a nylon sheath..i went for the german one. it just felt better
The discontinued Puma Outdoor #6378 and the Hunters Pal are both much better knives than the White Hunter for actual field dressing and skinning game. The White Hunter is a flashy macho knife, but too large for practical use. I’ve used my Puma Outdoor as a hunting knife since 1986. It dressed out a whitetail buck in Montana in 2017. Aside from a few light scratches it looks near new. I’ve kept the blade honed and it retains the wickedly sharp edge Pumas are known for.
I agree. Too big for most uses.
The Hunter's Friend is also good for actual hunting purposes too; still have mine since i was a kid.

Say Heah, I just bought a Puma Bowie 2. I bought it in brand new condition from the Pawn Shop. My Bowie 2 doesn't have a Bolster it's just the intergrel blade with some nice stag slabs pinned on the blade. The sheath is a excellent leather. The Knife and sheath came in a Black box and states it was handmade in Solingen, Germany. So far I was able to find out it's discontinued and that I bought it at a good price. I paid $75.00 for a brand new version, I know it was never worn or sharpened. The number on the knife and the box match. I really would like any info that you have on my model since I can't find any information on my purchase. I really would like to know if the steel is 440c. or exactly the type of steel my Puma Bowie 2 is made of. Thank You in advance.
Information on puma knives is a little hard to come by, as the company has been around quite a while, has a massive product line, and doesn't update too often (especially in English). The Bowie II, along with most (if not, all) of the Puma product line is made out of 440c stainless steel. That being said, it is not the same type of cheap 440 found in knock off Chinese cheapos or gas station specials. It is a misunderstood steel. The 440 stainless that Puma uses is of very high quality with a fantastic heat treatment, and was chosen because of their heritage as a hunting knife company. When dressing large amounts of game, whatever knife you use WILL dull and 440 is much easier to sharpen quickly than other steels regarded as "higher quality". To sum however, your knife is made of 440c stainless and you got it for a rather good price.
Thank You, Yeah, I did call Puma U. S. A. and they didn't have any info on it, But the nice man gave me the Germany Division of Puma and they did have a little information on the knife, Yes its handmade in Solingen, Germany. and that it is 440c. The Bowie 2 is the basic version of the Bowie and it doesn't have a bolster but it's a integral style of knife where it's a knife made out of 440c and handmade with just stag handles (slabs) attached, The more I use it the more I like it. I have teamed it already with my White Handle H. I., M-43 Khukuri and my Gerber Freeman set which is the Hunter and the Caper, both are stag handle made similarly to my Bowie 2, But both in the S30V, the Khukuri is a leaf spring from a Mercedes and that the 5160 carbon blade. I don't wear all the knives at the same time, But I do pick and choose which ones to take with me to go out with, I could take my Kukuri, my Bowie 2 and the Hunter, attach the Khukuri and the Hunter to my pack and wear the Bowie 2 if I go out for a overnighter, Or I can go with just my Bowie 2 and Hunter and a saw on a scour or as you can see other various combinations, But most of all I Thank You for trying.

Solingen is a place, not a factory. What brand is your knife?

Such meticulous and fastidious workmanship and they aren't that badly priced to boot!
Great knives but I don’t think the quality of their stag is the best.
If you don't like stag their handles you may want to check the Automesser ("car knife") which is essentially the PWH with wooden scales - and cheaper.

I don't think Puma runs any manufacturing in China or Spain. They rather have contractors to manufacture the IP or SGB series according to their specs.
