This would be amazing to have even just for sewing. I use a lot of cotton woven interfacing, like you I have trouble getting it to stick. The directions say to each area for 10 to 15 seconds. Which can take all day so it seems. I still get the edges coming up when I cut my patterns out. What I have found that helps, is having a spray bottle nearby and I spray a spot, then sit the iron on it for about 10 seconds. I dont out water in my iron, cause they leaks most times, and the rust and dust that collects in the water over time, from sitting unused. I also use distilled water, or filtered water if I don't have distilled, cause of all the junk put in our water.
Hey Christine, nice to see your getting better….you realise you will be addicted now…i have one and a brother scan and cut…..love love love it, have fun xxxx oh coming to melbourne in Oct might have a trip to nagambie
I hope your recovery goes well Karen. I was playing with this tonight. Using it to get rid of the backing on sample fabrics. So much easier than the iron😁
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs yes thank you so far so good, just like with yourself, just takes time , . I am am a very independent person , and asking for help, with the things I am not able to do yet, it’s one of the hardest parts for mr, I guess your much the same on that one. . Very early days for me yet. Enjoying watching u tube vloggs during recovery time, Hope after next week to be back sewing again, you just take great care as well.xx
It is great how you have kept us Christine fans entertained whilst you recover. You are such a great person and teacher. I think I have watched all your sewing and cooking videos as well as your rock and roll ones too (you and Chris look and move great together). I get something from each of them no matter how many times I watch them. I have an older Elna heat press and love it but I'm thinking maybe I need to upgrade.......lol
Thanks Judi. I really miss our dancing. Hopefully we can get back to more videos in the new year. We definitely have lots more moves in us, just not as able these days. 😁
Thanks for the demonstration of the heat press. I don’t think I would use one but have been interested. Also your bags will be wonderful! Love them! Love seeing you even if you can’t sew right now.😊
Yippee skippy! I’ve been wanting to upgrade my heatpress - I have a Cricket 9” square. Good for tshirts, but not so much for interfacing which is my primary focus now. Wonderful demo. Thanks so much. You did GREAT! Really takes your market bags to another level! Exceptionally professional looking. And thanks for discount codes. Fingers crossed I find one large enough. ❤
I've been wanting a heat press for a while, looking for used ones, but after seeing your review, I ordered this one from your channel! Thank you for the discount code! And the review!
Hi Christine,!I love these machines, I’ve seen them before. It will be awesome for you. Do you get to keep it? I hope you do.? You’ve done a great review. This will be fantastic for you. TFS this with all of us. I’d love to have one of these. Have a great night.
I have seen that machine in use. I have a good old fashioned human powered one and that one is a bear to use (I’m a little older than you and I struggle horribly to close the bugger).
Oh my gosh, yesterday I made my first sublimation print on a grocery bag. I make mine with outdoor fabric so the polyester worked amazing for the print but it wasn’t quite as crisp because I used a hand heat iron and I was just thinking I need a press. Maybe this is a sign!! Thanks Christine!
I got this heat press when it was offered on kickstarter and waited (im)patiently for it 🙂). I do a lot of sublimation and HTV, the only thing I don't like is the pull-out drawer...you can't adjust or rearrange the item once the drawer is pushed in. Things shift during movement and come out crooked. Other than that, it is a great heat press!
That was a lovely review, what a brilliant machine,I would love to get one but I don’t have a machine that cuts vinyl at the moment.Brilliant for the interfacing ,I will have to look into buying one.
Thanks Eve. I don't have a cutting machine either, but found a local lady on Facebook that did them for me. I've since found companies that do big runs too, so will look into that😁
At this time, I have no need for a machine like this. However, if the need should come up in the future, I now know what type of machine to look for. Thank you.
I’m not quite sure why the unkindness in some of these comments. You might want to look into the sublimation printer instead of vinyl since the vinyl has more waste. I bought a cheap Epson eco tank and then put the sublimation inks in it. I’m super happy with the way the print goes on the fabric, and if you are okay with some being darker than others you can use the print more than once (at least I found that to be the case). You’re awesome and kind and so positive. I wish people who didn’t agree with something would be a little more kind with their words.
Thanks Brooke. Words always seem more unkind when written, and many have valid comments. It's certainly made me think more carefully about what I will put on my bags 😀
Great video Christine. Do you feel comfortable with how night the platter opens? I think it would be even better if it opened another inch to allow for hoodies and thicker items? Otherwise it looks amazing and I want one! I thought it would be very expensive but was surprised with the great price. I have a big automatic heat press and I can’t reach the handle to put it down. It’s also an auto open but I can’t choose to open manually to avoid ghosting for sublimation which is annoying. So all in all I might sell mine and get one of those, with some change left. I thought these were only available in the US.
That's a great question Leigh. I actually thought the same thing at first, but I wonder if it's safer the way it is. My thought is that if there was more room under the platten, users might accidentally burn themselves if their hands go underneath when placing garments, especially when in a hurry. I'd probably be one of those people 😃
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs I’m glad you understood my question despite what my phone wrote lol. Yeah that’s a good point. I really like the look of it and it’s on sale now for about $50 less which is making it very tempting to click buy! I have issues with my wrist after a couple of surgeries and a dodgy shoulder from my job so this looks much more ergonomic for me as well. Don’t start reviewing a Mercedes because then I’d have to buy that too 😂
@leighhansen738 haha, I wonder if Mercedes are interested 🤔 I still have weak wrists from my surgery last year, and of course my shoulders are no good either. I struggle pressing with a regular iron, so for me the best feature was the slideout drawer 😀
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs if they are interested, hopefully they’ll chip in to cover insurance costs lol. Yes I have the Sam issue. I have the Oliso iron but it’s too heavy and even worse with water in it and then my wrist flares up for a few weeks, which makes work tricky.
Ooh, I love the machine, it looks a great aid for pressing your interfacings and stubborn fabrics and make that so much easier than a manual one! If it were me I think I would use it for that but not printing onto items with vinyl which at first I thought was a great idea but then it occurred to me that even though you could do so much artistic stuff with it, it is still adding more non-biodegradable plastic-type material into the environment? I personally think that an embroidered design would look fantastic and using thread to make the recycling design in a smaller size I think would be more in harmony with the spirit of the message? I am curious as to how much power the machine uses to heat to those high temperatures and the associated impact on the electricity bill as our utility bills in the UK have gone through the roof and we are cutting back in many areas?
It's funny, after I posted the video, I realised the vinyl contradicts what my purpose is with the bags I create. The embroidery by machine is a great idea, but I just don't have the time (or the funds) to set up designs. I'm still looking into other ways to get images onto my fabric. More research required!😁
Even with embroidery you would be using polyester thread which is not biodegradable. Rayon thread is more delicate, bleaches, and fades. Cotton thread is becoming more popular but is limited in colors. I'm not sure if it holds up like poly thread though. Floriani now makes a cotton embroidery thread.
That's a great machine! Go those Shopping bags again. They'll fly off the shelf now. I just thought if you had two Teflon mats and you were hungry you could make a toastie! Only joking. Look fun..😊
I have stopped myself from investing in this type of system because of my concern for environmental impact of the use of vinyl. It just feels like we continue to find more and more ways to keep using materials that are never going to deteriorate back into our earth with out causing harm.
Do what you need to do for yourself but I look at saving large amounts of items ending up in the landfill by “up cycling “ existing items and giving them another life!
You have valid concerns Brenda. I was so excited with my new toy, I didn't think about the impact of vinyl on the environment. It wasn't until last night when I was playing around with logo designs, that I realised it contradicted what my purpose is. I'm pleased with what the press can do though, and am still working on how best to use it for my bags😁
I understand! Lovely amazing things are made from Cricut and the like. I just worry about the long term environmental cost. The heat press is really nice and can be used in lots of ways. I admire your posts and your outlook.
If you didn't want to use vinyl, what about embroidering the logo. You save a lot of fabrics from going to landfill, I was wondering whether threads and machine embroidery threads also get thrown away. Love your channel, Diane
I don't own an embroidery machine Diane. I used to sell them, but didn't really enjoy it. I should probaly get a small one though. There's loads of thread being thrown away. I have the same press :) I like it but it does have some drawbacks to a regular press :) I am not sure I would choose it again but part of that has to do with the fact that I have had HORRIBLE luck with their customer service when it comes to some vinyl orders.. It's a horrible company for customer service so I won't order anything from them anymore. But hey for you to get one that is awesome & yes I love to use it for interfacing ( except for small pieces if I am doing applique because they get lost sometimes :) FYI you can get a pressing pillow anytime you have a collar, zipper, or anything like that You need to get the image above that (for example a baby onesie has the shoulder things you need to raise in between that so the image goes :) Also you want those lint rollers to get the lint off especially if you plan on getting into sublimation but I do it to everything :)
Thanks for the tips Kimberly. Hopefully their service will improve. I must get the lint roller, also some weeding tools, and one day a Cricut or similar toy 🤔
How is vinyl "earth approved"? I think that it is great that you reuse so much fabric, but seems odd that you then use these products that are not remotely environmentally beneficial 🤔
That's a very good point Holly. I agree with you about the vinyl, and whilst I was excited to learn a new craft, and had loads of fun with it, I'm aware that vinyl is the wrong product to have on my bags.
