  • Let Dean show you how to swap the incandescent lights with long lasting and brighter LED lamps on his 2011 Mercedes E350
    **Follow-up: after about a month, this brand burned out and I replaced them with the original bulbs. I would not be concerned about performing this swap again, but definitely choose another brand other than this one shown beginning at 6:14.

    Who would guess changing a light bulb would require disassembling the trunk? Couldn’t believe MB would design for maintenance like this. Thanks for this video - perfectly done. Probably saved myself a couple of MB billing hours.

      Thanks for watching Kevin. Just do-it-yourself for sure. Those recessed clips were the most difficult. Full disclosure: doing it again, I would not use the bulbs I ordered. They didn't last as specified and already have burned out. Would probably buy American made.

      It doesnt, just remove the trim on the outside, 10 minute job at most.

    Thank you Sir for the guidance in removing and replacing the various clips, lining, and valance. This allowed me access to replace the trunk lid light with an LED and install 18 LED license plate lights. Great video!

    Grind the "V" in your nylon pry bar larger to a U to go around 75% of the clip. Great vid! Not sure why you would put LED's in where incands were. Now the plate lights are brighter than the rest of the rear lights. I don't get why this is done. Leave them dimmer as M-B designed them. That way the rear of the car looks balanced... not like a 14yo yoot added bling from Pep Bois...

      @PilotViewProductions  2 роки тому

      Don't worry, they only lasted about a week. Put the incands back in. But I gotta say, my taillights are LED and as such, are much brighter, not balanced with the license plate lamps. Thanks for watching dude.

      @@PilotViewProductions My daughter has one of these cars with a burned out bulb. I am going to use a carpet knife and cut a flap to open and grab the bulb.
      I will put some velcro with small black pop rivets to the liner to seal and hold it back up after replacing the bulb.
      Terrible engineering by MB.
      MB should've done this but they want the money from complicating a simple replacement 1000%.
      BTW LOVED THE OUTTAKES SIR!

    Is this different procedure for E350 coupe vs sedan?

    • @PilotViewProductions
      @PilotViewProductions  10 місяців тому

      Probably not, but not sure if you read my disclaimer in the description section. This replacement ultimately did not work and I had to revert back to regular OEM bulbs. This manufacturers bulbs quit working shortly after posting this video. I can't attest for other manufacturers, but I would not go with this one.

      @@PilotViewProductions when I do something to my car a 2010 e550 I always watch a few different videos. There’s already one on here. I didn’t record doing mine. But from the out side the plastic chrome piece pops off. On a side note if you ever need to replace your air struts. I had to replace my fronts as the previous owner had already done the back. I found a great deal on Rock auto. They were after market but at a huge savings. I got each for like $525. When I got them they didn’t seem the same so I contacted Arnott the manufacturer. They assured me they would work and had just been updated to work better. Then he also let me know if I sent my old ones back they’d give me $125 each. It only took me 45 minutes to do both of them. They’ve been on for a year and work and feel absolutely great! If you ever do this job make sure you get new bolts or use the strongest lock thread.

      It's shown beginning at 6:14. The reason I didn't want to 'plug' them, is: 1: They are not an advertiser and 2: They burned out after about a month and I wouldn't recommend this brand.

    Leave it to the Germans! Making what sure be the simplest of maintenance, becomes a $250 labour bill for $5.00 bulbs

    • @PilotViewProductions
      @PilotViewProductions  4 роки тому +1

      Update: these bulbs burned out in no time. I put the original style bulbs back in and they are working fine. So, I ended up going through this exercise twice.

      Pilot View Productions interesting...do you think it just may of been the quality of the led? I installed a set of led bulbs for my headlights and they’ve held up for the last 8 months now...so far so good.
      Also was looking at some other Lic plate light installs and there appears to be an easier way to do the install by popping the exterior trim around the trunk lip area, easy access. All other lights tho you have to pop the liner.

      Please post your video on how you did it and a link to it, so we will have a better understanding. Please post your model number. For my 2011 E-350, I had to remove it.
