what’s perfect though? I’m still ranking it a 10, since perfection doesn’t exist. It has its issues as anything does, but does it elevate the medium, does it create an experience beyond anything else, where you can’t miss it and it is a generational film.

The joy of film is that it's all subjective. For me there are films I've watched where I've felt they are perfect. Not to say that every word is perfectly delivered or that every shot is exactly framed. It's more that there is nothing that I can think of that would make that film better. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse was a film like that for me. There are a few others I can say are like that but ultimately that's how I measure it as perfect. Dune was an apex level film that I adore! I'm looking forward to seeing it again.

Honestly, the phrase, "No movie is perfect" has become such a useless, cop out thing to say. For me, a 10/10 rating means the movie is so good, any perceived flaws can be easily interpreted as quirks of subjectivity. You just don't see them unless you're really going to nitpick or you're critically comparing an adaptation to a source of a different medium, which is incorrect to do in terms of ranking the quality of the adapted piece. Filmmakers should never seek to mimic a book exactly. Nor should they make it their priority to cater to book fans. Instead, they should make a good movie that they want to see.

I honestly see the first film as a necessary prelude to a Part Two viewing. It definitely stands on its own, but for a totally immersive experience, Part One has to come first.

You are right on the mark! It's it is a bench mark, in so many levels, music, images, dialogue, the whole of the whole. It is a myth about of power and its sensation of how unperpared we are evolumtionally for us meeting this Mythic enemy of power, we all experience and see happening in our world.
I agree it is a historical film.
    wonderful review. thanks
the kat. Oh by the way, in the 80s I got to take a master class with Herbet, was office help for Mc Nally who helped launch the Nebuals. Hearing the author speak about the concept of spice and power is something I will never forget. But then I am old f__ker, often all we have is memories, well this film brought just what I sensed in those lectures! For that I have great fear for the making of the third film. I hope they do not make it right away, but let us marinate in this one for awhile!

Lovely comment! How amazing that you got to meet and listen to the author talk about his work! Amazing 🤩. I'm sure those are some strong cherished memories. It's wonderful to see it brought to life in such an epic way. Thank you for dropping by 🍿

It’s not perfect, but it’s damned close. Definitely an instant classic

100%. And for me, perfect doesn't necessarily mean better. I've seen some perfect movies that don't hold as much love for me as others do. Dune part 2 is one of my all time favourites! 🍿

Zendaya.. god bless her. Fantastic performance, but I think she was miscast. I'd love to see a deep fake with Kylie Jenner in there. On second thoughts she looks much worse without make-up. I just wanted some sex appeal. Lynch had way better Still Suits. There are many parallels with the Lynch movie and getting a little tedious before the last act was one I didn't care for. I left the cinema satisfied, but not keen to sit through it again.

I still haven't seen the Lynch film. It's on my bucket list. Would you recommend it? Kylie Jenner without make-up, in the desert should be the deepfake they actually make. Or maybe I'm just wanting to watch her on an episode of "Into the wild" with Bear Grylls, complaining about the dust in her ear holes and drinking water from scraped out tortoise shell carcass 😂. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts 🍿

I continue to say that Dune Part 1 is an amazing science fiction film, just not a great Dune film. I left the theater crushed. If it wasn't for the fact that this is a science fiction cinematic experience, I wouldn't be considering going to see it.

That's very interesting. I thought it stuck to the feel of the first portion of the book quite well. But I can get that it didn't hit the mark for everyone. I think I'll need to watch them back to back when the second one comes out to get an overall feel for them as a whole. Thanks for your comments, they've made me reflect in a different way 👍🏻🍿

I have it a B. Zendaya and Christopher Walken really annoyed me. She frowned and pouted the whole time. Walken felt miscast. And just kill me every time they talk about sand walking lol.

Yea, I think Zendaya is an amazing actress, but didn't quite achieve the level that a lot of the other cast members did in this film. I didn't mind Walken too much, he felt like he was on the verge of death which I thought worked for me. I did get over the sand walking pretty fast. I could just see a bunch of people turning it into some kind of tiktok dance 😅. Thanks for your comments 🍿

      Even Lotr isn't a 10. So a 9 is a good rating. For me it's a 9,4.
