Canyon Racing - Elite Dangerous vs. Star Citizen

- In both Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen, it is pretty fun to fly a small, light ship through a canyon. In this case, the Origin 350r takes on the Adder. How do the two games (and ships) stack up against each other?
Song used: Star Citizen OST - Artemis Explorers - Ігри
This video is getting stupidly popular for some reason (analytics shows an exponential growth in views WTF), so I think I should do a quick FAQ:
1. Why does Elite look so bad?
Elite is an aging game. This was also recorded in Horizons, with the old planetary tech. This is because awesome canyons like this still existed. The new tech is a little toned down and more realistic, but unfortunately did away with procedural generation. I also had night vision on (even in daylight) so I could better see the contours.
2. You can't compare these games for XYZ!!
This video wasn't really meant to be a comparison of the two, it was just the result of mashing three video ideas together into one big meme clip. I love and hate both games equally, for different reasons. I appreciate that this has sparked a lot of debate in the comments, and I want to hear your thoughts, but always remember to be civil. At the end of the day, it only gaem, why you haf to be mad?
3. Ew you spent real money on virtual spaceships?
I only have the starter Avenger Titan package in SC. I have grinded in-game credits to build my fleet, which now includes the Avenger Titan, the Vanguard Sentinel, the 350r, and the Ares Ion. I've actually spent more money on Elite Dangerous cosmetics.
4. Why would you use the Adder instead of the Viper or iEagle?
You are clearly new to this channel, and I welcome you to check out some of my other elite dangerous videos!
I started on ED then saw SC and was blown away. Never touched ED again
You can get the Ion and the Inferno in game now? When did this happen i'm confused? Not saying anything I have an Inferno and a bunch of other shit with real money CAUSE I WANTED THEM is the only reason AND MY BILLS ARE PAID so mind ya biddness lol not you Crimson but, in general. 😂😂🤣🤣
Edit: Also really like the Video Haven't played Elite was it Harder or Just Different Flying?
@@Wbroach24 they were added with 3.17. Elite has a different flight model, and no atmospheric drag. In theory, it should have been easier, but I was flying the elite dangerous equivalent of a Misc Freelancer, with the engine swapped with a 350r.

I love how the Adder has "adderall" on the dash, which is what I need when I fly an Adder.
yeah but you have wings and air pressure that's helping you; that poor adder had to fight against a vacuum :(
true but then theres no air resistance. so it would drop to the ground but its engines would be far more efficient
@@SalmonBeach air resistance is granting more manuverability because of the air resistance generating uplift from the wings, no flight model like that in elite it's all gravity and thrusters at that point, so the manuverability iis better in SC, different flight model.
@@SalmonBeach yeah but without the air resistance it would be less snappy on those turns and it would slide around more
@@ThatTinyDude yep and you wouldnt be able to slow down either youd have to apply the same amount of thrust to pull back
hes on daymar, nothing there to aid u. Mircotech would be different
This is a really fun video. To me it highlights the terrain difference - in ED you can see the engine is pretty old now - it's soft and smooth looking - in SC, you can see how much more advanced it is, with all sorts or terrain, smooth, jagged, windswept sand dunes.
To be fair that ED footage is from horizons.. in Odyssey they redid the planetary tech.
However, to be fully fair, in Odyssey you don't really have cannionss anymore, not to the same degree.
@@ziggysstarman4211 Odyssey removed cool canyons like this. Now it's the same 12 planets repeated forever, with different colors. No more procedural generation.
Sort of, but the fix is in. Night vision and a Space Van with small windows in Elite vs what looks an F1 Race plane in broad day light in SC. ED is dying and is SC out of beta yet? One on the way out the other with a pay to win model. Hopefully someone will fill in for the lack of playable space games.
@@psibug565 SC is not pay to win.
Even if you spent 2000 on ships there is nothing to win
@@thesneak86
But don't you literally need to pay money to unlock better ships?
There's something to be said for the charming sounds of your ship sounding as if it is falling apart as you use it in a way it was never intended to be used.
Great meme audio clips. Coming from Elite i am just blown away how beautiful and immersive planets on Star Citizen are. Lot of people say "oh yea Elite has a whole galaxy and Star Citizen only has one system" I say well look how beautiful you can make a planet when you can put more resources into making it detailed and immersive compared to Randomly generated Planets with no soul. Hands down for immersion Star Citizen all day. I still love Elite for its game play but having fun with a lot of Space games right now and they all have something special. I say dont get stuck on one saying its the best and everything is crap compared to it. Try out numerous space games you will be surprised with how much fun a lot of them are
"well look how beautiful you can make a planet when you can put more resources into making it detailed and immersive"
Don't forget that it's taken them over half a billion dollars, and 10 years, and this is the most "impressive" thing they have to show for me.
The way I like to put it is that elite is a swimming pool tens of thousands light years wide, but like 1m deep whereas star citizen is a pool 1 light year wide, which is really deep, with slides, waves machines, heaters, and lots more things promised to come.... except it has no water in it. Love both games tho

however: Daymar has been looking that great for a loooong time.
well i got elite for free from epic games, and sc is only $45, so i'm happy to have both
Elite is infinitely prettier in the grander scale of it all.
in elite you just bounce of wallS and keep going, in SC you bounce into A wall and hope you didnt loose a engine in the cutlass or a wing in an arrow.
because the ships behave different then and are extremely hard to control...
the only ship i can think of in elite that has a damage model is the anaconda, and thats only cosmetic
i got your point
I've crash landed an arrow in the snow on MicroTech already. It's a whole vibe having to call space AAA to get a tow to the nearest starport.
@@ravenna6543 I was flying one of the alien ships in SC (forget what they call it) and I was attacked by some pirates on my way to Hurston, some part of my ship was shot up and I couldn't hardly control the ship, so I did a controlled crash landing outside of Lorville because there was no way I could set that wreck down in the city. As I got out, the ship was half on fire and half missing. Was the most epic thing I had done in the game at the time. I actually crashed a wrecked ship, and I just walked back to the city.... So immersive.... until I 30ked on way there. Doh.
@@wakirk Why do I have a feeling you were flying a talon lol
Don't text and fly; I rammed my Cutty straight into a building and lost both front wings, and the port engine.

@@OD-Zee It was more a bandwagon thing, before trying it I basically kept fighting it actively, telling myself that it wouldn't be worth it, I suppose you might be able to understand though, playing another game for so long and not wanting to let go
@@FoxNamedFinn so basically it was a tribal response to a fear of losing out to another game? It's a curious response since games are meant to be for fun and if it is ur type of game, having more options is a good thing for you, but I get the whole sunk cost fallacy and thinking if more people leave something you enjoy then eventually you won't have anyone to play with and it makes you wonder if you made the right choice to stay. Thanks for sharing.
I came expecting a high quality race, I didn't expect to get meme'd on.
The pilot flying the Vomit Comet is a legend. You should see some of his mailslot landing-bay flights. He's a maniac.
That CMDR is more terrifying than people think, unlike others he sees the penalties of death as a challenge and wishes to be as close to losing his ship and himself as he can be.
Or maybe he’s just crazy I unno man
Dude ripped a wing into a flat spin and still landed it
I guess in a spaceship you can throttle out of it and hope for the best
Spaceships don't rely on wings for lift... they'll use them for 'improved efficiency', but they still have a full set of thrusters capable of generating multiple gees of acceleration on any axis :D
@@logicalChimp yeah that's what I meant by throttle out
@@logicalChimp this is true, except that in Star Citizen, your control surfaces actually generate considerable lift and drag. Not to mention the center of mass is thrown out of wack. Additionally, the 350r has a pair of outboard maneuvering thrusters on each wing which are lost when a wing comes off.
When I hit that rock, I spiraled into the ground and died immediately. It was video editing magic that made me miraculously 'land' the thing.
To be fair to elite dangerous, you weren’t using a “racing” ship there are a few ships in elite that maneuver better than the m50 and can go 900 m/s
There's a ship that goes 900m/s? I thought all ships would be capped at 250-300m/s..
@@SupernaturalPowerz oh boi then you've never flew an imperial eagle with fully engineered thrusters ^^
@@SupernaturalPowerz viper mk3 I can’t remember the build, (I haven’t played seriously in a while) but basically the biggest engines, thrusters, and a goodly sized power plant (all fully engineered) and the smallest shield generator (I’d sometimes run no shields at all for a couple m/s more) and you can get to 900 ms at full boost, you can sorta keep it up with flight assist off, but I only ever did that if there was a real straight line. I used to have a group of friends that would race around the canyons around Felicity Farseer so we had an easy respawn point when we exploded. I was the only one crazy enough to to commit to the build, so when I wasn’t dying I was winning lol. That was basically the last thing I was doing in the game, so whenever I get nostalgic I hop into that mad thing and race around the course we laid out
@@mckinleywilson6184 The key for high speed in ED is enhanced thrusters, that can be bought at certain locations and only up to size 3. This with engineering dirty 5 + drive distributors experimental can reach up to the hard speed cap of 896 m/s with the imperial eagle and the viper (the adder too, I think).
@@antonk.653 you’re exactly right! you can also get the smallest fsd, and I’m p sure you can get away with the second biggest generator with engineering +5 (again I haven’t played in a while and don’t know my build perfectly anymore) to bring weight down further, and push past the 896m/s speed limit briefly. Plus remember you can keep the speed up with flight assist off so you can sustain 900m/s p easily, plus if you’re in a gravity well, and can do some minor speed bowling, you can push past 900m/s. Last time I played I messed around with my racing viper, and managed to get it to 926m/s using the gravity on deciat
It's very sad that Frontier did not upgrade Elite to the level that SC has, I my self have left Elite and started recently playing SC and I have to say that it blew me away right from the start although I know that is still in an Alpha development process but who knows if the guys at Frontier can surprise us wiht an astonishing new future version of Elite beating SC.
Keep dreaming my friend, I think Fdev have taken the game as far as they can with its current graphics engine but don’t want to admit it.

Compared to the dross in the AAA sector that we've been getting, I don't see how it only has a few redeeming qualities? I would like to ask in comparison to what (Elite: Dangerous, notwithstanding), because Cyberpunk 2077, Battlefield 2042 and whatever that new CoD is have far less going for them than Star Citizen at this point.

Well you can use tab as scanner
@@MrNebelschatten I know... but it's not the same. The ping is cool, that's granted. But having some sort of a ground rendering on our radars would not only be cool, but have so many advantages (specially landing), not to mention that we could even have interaction in that screen... like a co-pilot putting a marker on it (through the screens on their station) for the pilot to follow it, or ping results and structures to show up as well... so many possibilities.
EDIT: Another example: finding a crashed ship using the ping combined with the radar would be a much more immersive gameplay than the "magical marker" we have right now
@@DavidLimaGoncalves radar in elite is something people don't really mention all that much. I think people who play it just sort of take it for granted but it is an amazing bit of game design.
Its so simple but at the same time advanced enough that you could literally fly just about anywhere without looking outside your ship. Literally everything you need to navigate is on the hud.
Would be so nice for SC to do something like that. I really dislike sc's method of a billion icons flying round your screen pointing at everything.

Very very nice, and funny, as an SC player I'm impressed with ED canyon size I must say, they're quite deep I didn't know that.
What's funny was the ED crowd that got mad over Odyssey swears there are no canyons.
This was filmed in Horizons. Odyssey removed all the cool features from the old planet tech and replaced them with boring, pre-scripted, repeating surface features. We now have about 12 unique planets repeated forever in different colors.
@@CrimsonGamer99 I mean that's cool to be salty and all but that's not going to change the truth. It's not all of the planets that ended up with the repeating texture and I've had no problem finding cool canyons much deeper than this surface skimming being done in this SC video and I'm barely out of the bubble. The Horizons canyons were often just ridiculously deep wedges that looked stupid just like the ones in this video. CRIMSON YOUR BREAKING THE (Spaceship) Nice Video dude. :) Miss the old times when we did the PVP events :S
Not offending anyone, everyone shall play what ever they prefer. But from that video neither the textures / graphics in E:D are cool not the obviously missing damage model. I am aware good graphics mostly are not required to have a good game, but when it comes to space, they simply do (for me).
Elite has its good points lland the footage here is not from odyssey where the planetary tech was redone.
But having played both SC and Ed there is not question about the graphics. Though I still have to get used to SC's flight model in vacuum.
Elite has never had good textures up close and has never been the thing praised. It's the sound design, in space visuals and ship model that's amazing about it.
All things I and I bet most people will be willing to say elite still far exceeds SC at.
Elite was never designed to have planets you can land. It was a after thought. So no wonder they don't look good upclose.
I mean elite is literally a modern version of a game from the 80s
It was designed to basically be that 80s game with modern visuals.
And they far exceeded that goal.
It's a bit different in Odyssey. I wouldn't say up to SC but definitely doesn't look like this. However you're comparing a handful of handcrafted planets to a game containing millions if not billions of planets. Something's going to have to lack a little which is why I don't think SC is going to actually have a huge universe. And that's ok.
@@storm14k None of Star Citizen's planets are hand-crafted. The major points of interets are handcrafted, but the planets and their organic nature all procedurally generated. That was all part of the planet tech they built.
The rivalry between ED and SC came to a boiling point when odyssey was released, because fans of ED thought iteration on a released game was a better than perpetual development, the sad thing is many people are still waiting for a game to beat SC at “SC things” it’s a very interesting situation, but I like content like this, that just makes fun of it all and is more light hearted.
iteration on a released game vs iteration on a released alpha? I'm not sure the difference.
@@vorpalrobot there’s a big difference I mean just look a the graphics from 2.0 to 3.17 it looks like to totally different game. If you look at Fdev they essentially had to make a new game with odyssey because they couldn’t add anything in horizons, if you are building the game and the engine you have more freedom.
I mean you don’t have to agree with me just look at the planet tech in the video, that Fdev said they can’t fix it without remaking everything, meanwhile cig is still adding to planet tech with rivers, roads, lava, clouds, seasons, etc.
@@nerdglider which involves remaking everything to an extent. They haven't filled their universe with content that will break yet, I guess that's the big difference. If CIG stopped everything to fill and polish then they'd be locked into whatever tech was in game.
@@vorpalrobot No, that's completely wrong. They don't have to remake anything. That's what he's explaining, their planet tech is iterative. They can add to it without redoing anything. Just the issue of of course bugs and glitches that come along with it, but that's with any programming code.
@@vorpalrobot listen to them. Its an important diefference that took SC a decade to achive.
CRIMSON, CRIMSON YOU ARE BREAKING THE SHIP, CRIMSON YOU WILL BREAK THE SHIP
The rally video audio is awesome!
Well, for all the mockery and disdain Star Citizen received over the years, I think it's good that now the results have shown which path of development leads to what. I've never thought Elite was a bad game. I think it's playerbase sometimes expects too much from it(especially now). I mean, what did they expect? The game had a limited scope and wrapped up its development pretty early allowing players to enjoy it the way it is. But because it was developed with limited scope in mind, they are now incapable of achieving Star Citizen levels of depth unless they build systems necessary for that from the ground up, just like Star Citizen. That would take Elite enormous amounts of work, money and time.
elite is on the path star citizen was going to take. Just a difference in vision between frontier and CIG.
That's not the problem with ED man, the problem with ED is that the gameplay loops are ass because of so much grinding involved. It's as if it was a pay to win game, with the option of endless grind if you don't want to pay, only they removed the part where you can pay to skip the grind. That's the real problem with ED, people don't want to grind for hours to gain a 10% increase in efficiency in their jump drive, they want to find cool things when they explore, or whatever other things the ED community has asked for years without seeing anything for it.
Only if you played ED for a considerable amount of time you begin to understand the so many missed chances to create actually engaging content. You have the largest, most beautiful "realistic" galaxy in any game, filled with nothing. That's OK, the real galaxy is also filled with nothing, but just... put some hidden gems out there, exotic planets or phenomena, and maybe some hints here and there on where to find them, so someone might stumble upon them and make a cool discovery. You know, build the LORE and make that feeling of wonder, of "maybe I'll find something cool next jump" last a little longer
I agree. I mean Elite is literally a Space Trucking Sim with a bunch of extra stuff to have fun doing. A good game but was never trying to be what star citizen wants to be. honestly though the thing elite dangerous needs now is spaceship interiors (this was part of the original Kickstarter), a slightly better why for leaving and entering one's ship other than teleporting(id like at least a cutscene or something(for immersion)) and some bug fixes. But over all a really good game.
@@Lord_Kira69 it cant have spaceship interriors without the basic foundation that is needed to implement it. Thats what the original comment ment
One looks like a kids game, one looks like real life.
budget differences
Only one is a real game however. Doesn't help that footage was picked of a dark planet in Horizons most likely in a cargo ship with someone's bobblehead customizations on the dash. You could also get out of the canyons on ED and skim the ground just like what's being done here in SC.
@@storm14k What do you mean? SC is a real game...

That real game? Is it a real released game or an alpha barely beyond tech demo? Can't have it both ways. If it's a real game forget immersion... it's buggy as hell.
Where to find full ED video? (with comments)
“Sammy! Please concentrate, we are breaking the car!”
😂🤣😅
This video actually highlights how SC had to reduce vertical altitude on planets due to the technology they were working with at the time (still not fully resolved.. like the floating rocks, item placement on slopes). I really hope we can have a much greater dynamic range in the future. Mountains in SC are but hills in ED.
I personally don't want in SC mountains THAT high or exagerated, I want them bigger, but same they are tall they should be equally wide, even then, to have a full grast on SC mountains you have to walk them on foot, it's the only realistic way to compare them to real life because... well, we don't have space ships yet XD
It’s a moon, there are of course more „flat“ then a planet with atmosphere and weather working on the surface. Go to Microtech, the „mountains“ are much higher. Also keep in mind, this was the horizons version of ED. With Oddyssey the mountains and valleys are also more or less gone and more „flat“.
Please keep in mind English is not my first language, but I hope you could understand what I wanted to tell you.
MicroTechs borreal forrest area is surrounded by giant ass mountains. Also looks pretty if you look at it in the distance. But its there.
Everyone told me Star Citizen was a scam but I liked how good it looked in the videos so decided to give it a try on the free fly week. All i can say is that the people calling it a scam obviously havent played it or they tried and found their hardware cant run it well or at all and decided to blame the unoptimised alpha they were expecting to perform like a finished game.
its not about the hardware it was about buying ships which never got released or getting released xD
@@Kyb3rn3tiC Iv baught a starter package for the same price a normal game costs and im getting the same experience as people who choose (i.e not forced..) to spend extra on ships. Iv seen the truth for my self, so your "hur hur, its about buying ships", doesnt cut it either XD. Also why you upvote yourself?
This is great on several levels
This is LEGENDARY!
ngl sc graphics are insane, but fdev flight model is amazing
elite doesnt even have atmo flight model...
@@seveneternal7988 i dont think thats true but i may be wrong, the planet he was on didnt have an atmo soo
@@seveneternal7988 hard to have a atmo flight model when you don't have planets with actual atmos...
@@lacrak27 gravity affects how ship behaves, yeah, but it doesnt take into consideration things like wind, density of the air, weather.. Yes, it doesnt have actual realistic planets like earth but it doesnt mean the flight model could handle them as SC does.
I think the argument for realistic atmo flight models is a little silly when none of these ships would probably "fly". At that point the flight model is whatever you tell the computer you want it to be. It can detect and cancel wind and adjust for atmospheric pressure thereby making "flight" more like point and shoot. To be honest I feel like SC in an effort to be more immersive leaves some technology in the stone ages. For instance why at this point in time would you be hand loading cargo on ships using a dolly? Yes it's fun and makes for all sorts of role play but it doesn't always make sense.
Great video, and funny at that 😆
I never played SC but I do play ED...
To me this video showed that SC seem to have better feeling of speed, better graphic of course, but I still believe ED provides better "shaking" feel of a flight for lack of a better word, the feel like you are in that ship that moves if that make sense. Everything shakes and creaks, I love the ED the sound design. SC feels little bit flat in that regard.
Really depends on the ship, the light racer models fly trough air like butter but switch to a Constellation Andromeda and it will feel like flying a proper brick, you have to fight gravity and resistance, using Boost to straighten out turns, then with a Drake Cutlass you basically fly the SC equivalent of a Osprey allowing you to toggle VTOL like its flight assist for rapid maneuvering.
Stuff like this i miss in Elite, i had hundreds of hours if not a thousand in Elite on Xbox and PS4 combined, but the moment they brought odyssey and how they handles the console players was a clear sign for me to switch to PC and a game that does respect its player base. Elite dangerous was a great game, amazing but they ruined it and i hope they can recover it to its former glory, but for now im having alot of fun in SC and if you havent tried it yet, its defo worth it!, once you learn how to avoid the bugs its actually quite playable,
That wonderful Pedro Macedo Camacho composition 🤌
I haven't played SC yet, so I didn't know how durable those ships are. Honestly, I thought you'd hit something at the very end and turn into a puff of smoke.
Also, I gotta ask; what's the death count on the Vomit Comet by now? High double digits or you think you've hit triple by now?
SC ships are paper. At the end of this video was a bit of editing magic. That crash actually ended up destroying the ship as I lost like half my control surfaces at a high velocity and couldn't recover. The cut at the very end was done just by very carefully bumping the right wing until it came off, then recording getting out.
And easily triple digits.
@@CrimsonGamer99 well, tbf, if you're flying a ship that small and fast, doing high Gs in a planet and you crash, nothing will save your ass from becoming goo (unless your universe has some sort of emergency teleport, which I doubt SC has)
Interesting in Elite you used the White Van of space ships the Adder wonder if that would of looked better with an Imperial Courier or Viper mk3, as they are faster and have better vision (flying in day time might of helped as well). I don’t know SC ships but that looks like a fast one. To be fair I’ve watch MalicVR canyon run in a Type 10 Battle Cattle and it looked like the SC demo so the skill of the pilot make a large difference, unless SC is easy mode flying. SC graphics are MUCH better but like the current version of Elite Odyssey is not multi platform so just as irrelevant to me. Two games with lots of potential but also both suffering from poor development practices.
Or an eagle
Yeah SC showing fastest racing ship in game meanwhile Elite gets shown a multipurpose cargo ship with a crap pilot, definitely good comparison. SC didn't show night time cause it would've been pitch black since no night time vision mode, only headlights
@@bathtubbarracuda actually, that looked like a 300i series ship. It's not a racer, it's more a tiny luxury ship. There are actual racers that are smaller and faster if I am not mistaken. They've talked about passenger missions (with actual NPCs) coming to SC, so one could transport them in this like the adder. So, the ships are about the same class, more or less. I like both games, I miss Elite, I just wish Frontier would get their head out of their tail pipe and fix the game up. To much depressing news from them these days when they give news. But this vid made me smile.
@@wakirk It was a 350r, which is Origin's 300-series racing model. You can see the decals on the side when I get out and try to locate the other half of the ship.
@@wakirk dude i agree!! Elite had me sucked in for a while but it got so stale but SC keeps me in awe every time i play. I'm fairly new but i thought the 350r in the video was the fastest competitive racing ship but maybe i had misread/heard it. Could've just been being compared to the same class(300 models). I flew a 350 and in felt like my Imperial Clipper but you're right that the Adder and 350 are both cargo capable and of similar size
SC does a good job at making you feel fast but I wouldn't consider it canyon racing, elite is slower but more fun.
It's a shame SC doesn't have very many impressive canyons, and ED: Odyssey got rid of all the cool ones from Horizons.
@@CrimsonGamer99 yea I feel that, on one hand their a ton of fun, but on the other they wouldn't really exist lol.
...and in Horizons more primitive heightmap generation ;)
@@CrimsonGamer99 you can find nice ones in hurston!

How do you use the g force on youre favor???
"Sharp right, sharp right, Samir you need to listen to my calls please, I beg you!" :D

there is no competition of ED and SC, ED is long time ago released project SC is still alpha demo version so there is no reason to compete
@@cyrilmetodej3614 And even as an Alpha Star Citizen has more content than ever new AAA game on the market right now.
@@billywashere6965 Last time I checked it still didn't have any proper space battles or anything to actually do. What changed?
@@TheByQQ Proper space battles? There are literally a series of tiered missions revolving around consistently escalating space and in-atmosphere battles, sometimes involving groups of skilled pilots in large vessels that require the player to either be an ace pilot or team up with other players and engage in epic PvE team battles. There are bounty missions like that galore. So I guess the last time you checked must have been in like 2017 - 2018?
@@billywashere6965 i dont think so it depends what you calling AAA games
Not much canyon in SC but far better planet surface
So the difference is that SC is a peaceful yet dangerous affair. ED is constant code-red and people keep yelling at you. Gotcha.
Sammy was a good dad, he was a bit drunk on that day tho, and his children still havent seen him since that day, Rest In Peace Sammy
Elite probably has better, deeper canyons right now but the SC ones are still like the first or 2nd iteration of the terrain generation. They're gonna get a lot more crazy.
Elite dangerous is obsolete, frontier need to builda new game, frontier now is building dinosaurs for jurassic world lol
Yeah but they're just displaced or extruded. Totally inelegant way to achieve 'more'.
@@spacep0d Also true.
Great video. Elite is way better at piloting in my humble opinion
I humbly disagree. SC flight model is increadibly good. Not perfect, but good.
Maybe slightly in its flight assist (decoupled mode). But in atmosphere being buffeted by wind and the way boost works is so much better in sc. For the record I have over 5k hours in Elite.
Samir...you are breaking the ship! ....SAMIRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!! xD
in Elite you have to boost to force the ship to go in front of you (the mouse widget, the square dot),
you are bound to the boost timer.
it is "easier" in SC you have the general direction of the ship the " >< " sign like all modern fighter jet " - o - " or " ¯vv¯ "
As much money as I have spent supporting Star Citizen, I still think ED has much more to offer. Star Citizen may look pretty but after 10 years of development, it's got so many bugs and limitations it's really sad. If Frontier got the visual details that SC has, it'd never leave ED. Great video...
limitation is what sense? right now the only limitation in SC is finding new system the rest there more freedom feel in SC than ED
Huh? They've added a bunch of new content in the last couple of months, and a lot more set to arrive at the end of the month, I don't see how that's really sad when most of the core tech is finished (still need to finish server meshing by the end of the year, which is like the biggest MMO milestone techwise next to planet tech and physicalized items) and they're now moving onto content propagation, which moves along a lot quicker than building core middleware to actually design the game. It's why it's rapidly expanded in content so much in the last six months.
Yeah, I've got SC and I'd be lucky to make it to the hangar without falling through the map. I get that SC is about the size of a puddle but deep like a lake, whereas ED is as big as a lake, but only as deep as a puddle...but I prefer to play a game that's playable. I can hardly play SC but I can play ED Odyssey perfectly fine. I've got a system that can handle it, it's just that SC is too broken for me to enjoy. Besides, at least ED is a completed game where SC had been siphoning money from their supporters for at least a decade. Js
I have the same issues with SC.
Until very recently textures in planet ports would not even load in.
Last time I tried the game (last week) they load in now but I struggle to get over 20 FPS in the starting ports and even in space with nothing around me I only get about 30 FPS no matter the settings.
While in elite odyssey the lowest o ever see my fps is 30 at the worst large ground cz's and its 60 everywhere else.
To think people said they are abandoning elite and moving to SC because of odysseys bad performance....
And now I would want to see Canyon Racing in Star Citizen
LOL "You will wreck the car Samir...You have to stay on the road Samir" "Ok OK!"
I really fail to see the comparison, ED looks so comical and arcade like there is no real way to compare the two!
It's my conclusion that Elite Dangerous is dead, I'm heading over to Star Citizen...
Hey crimson i love your Elite videos. i have been playing elite for a long time, but due to recent problems with the game i am loocking for a suitable " Elite
replacement ". would you recommend star citizen, or is it a bit to different or does it have other problems?
There's not an easy answer to this question. Both games have spaceships. That's about where the similarities stop. Whereas Elite is a complete game (and has been for almost 8 years), Star Citizen is a buggy alpha (and has been for over 8 years). HOWEVER, it is in a much more playable state now than it was 3 years ago. It has gameplay elements and some engaging mechanics and career paths, but it's not nearly as flushed out as elite. Many of the assets and mechanics in SC are placeholders, and are likely to change.
Finally, the price. You don't "buy" Star Citizen, you "pledge". The base pledge package is about $50 and included the game, Arena Commander (not entirely unlike elite's arena), the marine game nobody plays, and a sidewinder-tier starter ship. From this package, you can pledge more to start with better ships, but keep in mind that most ships can also be purchased in-game for credits (called aUEC). Buying one with real money is only to circumvent the grind, which is fairly daunting in an Aurora.
The SC devs are currently fully focused on Squadron 42, which is the singleplayer campaign. It was supposed to come out in 2018, but, well... It got Star Citizen'd. Repeatedly. In the meantime, the game that everyone is playing is kind of a sandbox "waiting room" that receives infrequent updates, at a rate that makes it seem that it will take another 20 years before the game is done. So take that as you will.
@@CrimsonGamer99 thank you, that's helpful
@@gluhbirnebirne2001 Also, just to add, Star Citizen has enough gameplay loops at the moment that would allow you to get a full-fledged experience out of it with more content than what you get almost every new AAA game these days. I was really shocked at how much you can do in the game and how immersive it is, bugs, glitches, and hiccups galore. The space combat really takes a lot of getting used to, and every ship seems to handle differently; learning how to manage the physics is a challenge all its own.
Daylight vs Nightdark
Run ship vs Standard ship
FA on vs FA off
Hmm partiality.
But very funny with Sami & his mate :D
so, is flying in SC or ED more satisfying?
I just saw the new Top Gun the other day and now I need an edit with the ED dialogue
I notice FA Off in ED. Does SC have an equivalent?
Yes, decoupled mode.
this fucking sound overlay was amazing, love the original! well done
This video deserves way more views...
This was awesome
Elite Dangerous is definitely far more forgiving if you decide to lick the ground with your ship. SC is way more pretty, though I still prefer the UI of ED (plus ED runs on a potato) XD
Great comparison though! Just out of curiosity why did you pick a night-time canyon in ED btw ?
What about errors in the game where there are more of them?
