Love that Joey mentioned shoujo manga’s underrepresented in anime, which is an unfortunate reality. Also it makes me happy to hear that he loves Ao Haru Ride :))
Well they do reflect popularity… in Japan. The fact is that Americans and I assume Britain/Australia aren’t really into comics either, so they stick to the anime more often, so a lot of the hype in Japan doesn’t carry over here.
I think a lot of Westerners think that the "anime bubble" is Anime + others. In reality, it's probably Anime + Manga + LightNovel + in all equal slices.
@@ausgod538 I agree that there is overlap, but the overlap is big enough and the lines are blurred enough that it become a giant blob overall. I put "anime bubble" in air quotes because I can't think of an easier way to tag this overlap. So curious question: If they are different, where is the hard distinction between the three? From what I see, it's very hard to find a manga-only or LN-only person. They are usually exposed to the other media, in some way shape or form
Just how an anime can exponentially improve a manga, bad adaptations can sink em too. I can’t count how many I’ve talked to about Air Gear and how the anime was categorically mid (except the OVAs) but I rate the manga in my top 10 of all time.
This is only based on my personal experience but it seemed like Manga had a higher barrier of entry. As a kid in the early 2000s, anime was shown during Saturday cartoon line-ups and episodes broken up into parts could be found on UA-cam. Manga trickled in under the "Graphic Novel" boom. I would have to go into the adult section of the library to read Astro Boy, and there for sure wasn't any at big name bookstores. It wasn't until Deathnote was releashed in English and all the scene and emo kids were going gaga for it that it became accessable.
6:10 Am I the only who completely doesn't get this discussion? Did Joey and Connor forget the most basic plot point of Gorou being Aqua and Sarina being Ruby. Why are they acting like the incest came out of nowhere when that was the most basic plot point established at the start of the series. Yes you are allowed to not like it, but the bois were legit acting like it came out of nowhere lmao. They brought up the Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi connection before the Gorou and Sarina connection lmao. 7:52 Again apparently Garnt read it but doesn't know that Aqua is Gorou and it makes complete sense why he likes Ai. This is peak illiterate moment
14:42 Because from what you said about plot line characters and etc - it became clear that you barely payed any attention and because of it missunderstood stuff, and after that used things you misunderstood to say why show is not good. It would be completely different reaction if you just said that you are not interested in entertainment industry that series shows.
if you actually cared about quality character and story writing then the story you’re defending like this wouldn’t be fucking Blue Lock lmao. you’re just a manga fan who really likes it, which is fine, but it doesn’t mean it’s objectively well written
@@cwega2463 It's also not objectively bad written lol. If it was, it wouldn't be the highest seeling series of last year. You dont just "luck out" and reach the top spot by chance. Berserk may not have big numbers but it is timeless honestly. I know years and years from now I’ll show my kids when they are old enough what Berserk is.
I’d say not always since Mamayuyu was being recommended by tons of big people and tons of other attention but apparently not enough since it got cancelled
Are you dumb? More people watch anime than read manga and more people use MAL only for anime. Comparing the numbers is the most braindead stuff you can do

The art is amazing, the character designs are memorable, the matches are hype and the MC keeps evolving in realistic ways. Its like taking a narmal football match, but cutting out all the boring fat, to focus on the hype plays. What's not to love?
False equivalence. Oshi no Ko literally started with Sarina and Gorou being reincarnated as twins to Ai. You are allowed to not like it, but pretending like Aqua liking Ai and Aqua-ruby doesn't make any sense (like connor and joey say for no reason) is the definition of illiteracy

Komi San seems to work more as a weekly series as opposed to a serialized series. The thing is, that most western manga fans are binge readers

Pretty much. In the west anime is the main thing, manga isn't valued in the same way unfortunately

Apothecary Diaries is first and foremost a light novel series, and I don't think many people use MAL for light novels.
No, because mal is a western website with a bubble while manga sales are mainly from Japan. Very few sell more overseas and few sell close to 50/50
Thank you for talking about Soul Eater!

Soul eater is a classic. Remember Excalibur? Good times.

hes lucky tbh. the manga has gotten so gross.

Golgo 13 is said to be the most selled manga of all times after One Piece, yet most people outside of Japan never heard of it.
Are there no manga sections displayed in Western country local bookstores?? or are they just not popular for reading?
The big stores (Chapters/Indigo) in Canada have a manga section but it's usually not that huge and focuses more on popular series
nisekoi was in shounen jump, it was huge
I really love you guys~ ❤

No, Golgo 13 exist.
"Why MAL?! We have perfectly good English names!"
because you have the list set to Japanese. if you set it to English, you get the English titles.
Isn't that only for your own list, not the rest of the site?

It was the Berserk anime, not the manga. The manga is the second most popular after Attack On Titan if I recall correctly.

imagine thinking the writer of oshi no ko wasnt trolling from the start. there no pretense that its garbage.
Black clover as a manga is way too high on there; it is painfully average as shonen battle manga go; especially without an anime to elevate it
