The most realistic thing about the bratz movie is having a bestie, falling out for a year or two and then having one conversation that fixes everything and going right back to besties.
Yeahhh my best friend and I didn't talk or hang out for 2 years and then we somehow got back to hanging out almost weekly. But we didn't go to the same class and then I was out of school a long time so it's not that unbelievable that we'd grow distant. She also had her reasons at the time. True friends are the ones you can be apart from a long while and then come back to like barely anything happened.
It does, and people DO say that kind of stuff in real life. Disabled people get doubted in their disability all the time for not "looking blind" or "sounding deaf". At best it is ignorant and disrespectful, at worst disabled people actually face discrimination by having their accomodation or access taken away. Ie being thrown out of a restaurant because of your service animal, because you looked at the person when they spoke to you and therefore must be a person with perfect vision faking it. Not like there are millions of people of various level of eyesight who would not be able to safely navigate their world without glasses or anything to help an able bodied person understand that perhaps legal blindness does not always mean 100% full darkness in the same way that some people who wear glasses can actually see pretty well at certain distances or by straining their eyes.
its quite frustrating for me personally. the mariachis just break into my house while im trying to have breakfast and then go away suddenly. my windows are always broken because of how many times they broke in through the windows.
Well...to be fair - the other chick did start it by telling her she buys everything with her daddy's money or some crap. It was mean; but let's not pretend that someone like that would be the innocent party here.
would've been such a slam dunk if the actor was actually part of the deaf community and not a hearing guy playing a deaf part, but given the 2000s of it all I would've been more surprised if he actually was deaf 😅. Weirdly, even though "you don't sound deaf" is absolutely a crazy thing to say, the vocal tones and enunciations that are characteristic of some deaf people's speaking voice is actually called a deaf accent! Handy for anyone to know if they ever feel a bit unsure on how to go about mentioning that, because "deaf accent" is the actual name but it's sort of like the name "little people" I guess - if you don't know about the community's preferred language and you earnestly don't want to offend but you don't know the wording to use, it could sound offensive in your head but that's the actual name. lol.
As a disabled person, that comment was extremely accurate. I can't even count how many times I've had people tell me I don't look disabled. Even when I tell people I'm struggling, they'll be like "doesn't seem like you're struggling to me". Her saying "you don't sound deaf" was for real the most realistic part of that entire movie

As a girl who loved Bratz growing up, I have decided that The Cheetah Girls is actually the best representation of live action Bratz dolls. A diverse group girls living in an urban setting who are tight knit due to their music group, but still have their own interests and backgrounds. Their differences/competing interests causes strife between them in organic ways (not like just choosing to sit at different lunch tables lol), but ultimately prioritize their friendship in the end. In the sequels, they have international adventures. The characters are pretty comparable to the Bratz: Galleria = Sasha, Dorinda = Chloe, Chanel = Yasmin, Aqua = Jade? (Aqua isn't Asian though, and she's the most underdeveloped character of the group, so she's kinda the odd one out.) Would be interesting to have had The Cheetah Girls (2003) vs. Life-Size (2000) - a fairer match up I think! Bratz live action should have been compared Life-Size 2 because that one is trash lol

I also appreciate the fact that you covered the fact that lip reading is not as easy as it tends to be portrayed in media. and yes, it would be better to have a Deaf actor to tell a more interesting story about Deaf identities. thank you
As a deaf adult, I agree- I’m 25 and I can barely lip read despite being “taught” how to do so when I was in public school since my family was ashamed and didn’t want to send me to a residential deaf school despite living in MD so close to DC lol. It’s so important to get real representation because harmful misunderstandings cause conflict between hearing folks and deaf/hard of hearing folks.
it's real weird how the movie just.. pretends??? the deaf character isnt deaf. like the dude can read lips while looking AWAY FROM SOMEONES FACE. doesnt lip reading include... intently staring at someones lips??? my man is so upset that hes deaf that hes not noticing the fucking superpowers he got going on
Also did you notice how when the Bratz were wearing their trench coats they were clearly wearing jewel necklaces and high heeled boots, but when they perform on stage they're wearing sneakers and different jewellery? Always bothered me as a kid.
I loved the Bratz movie when I was a kid because I loved Bratz dolls and the Games I didn't know it scored sp bad. Then again, who was asking their target audience, kids to review it?
i died laughing over the bratz having school cliques that were like divergent factions. might as well have made the girls born into them. assigned mime at birth

Gosh...I had the same reaction as you in that post football game scene with the dad. When my dad died last year, he'd left a letter for me wherein he spoke about having regrets about focusing on his career so much in the 90s and early 2000s and not being around as much as he thought he should have. The feels, man
Same! I remember when the trailer came out, I remember seeing it in theaters, I remember getting the DVD and watching it on repeat all night on a sleepover once. Bad movie or not, I'll always have those memories 😁
I loved Bratz and saw the movie in 2007-- the only thing, literally the only thing my brain chose to take away was Chloe's detention pose. For the longest time I thought standing on a table was both 1) the coolest thing you could do and 2) the mark of a true rebel. So cool to have it called out. :)
this movie is really good at showing grief and loss and losing someone who was becoming a parental figure. my dad passed when I was like 8 so movies like this are really nice:)
Lindsey Lohan really was a phenomenal child actress, ive always loved life sized and she really does ground that movie at her young age it’s crazy😭 Also, Sasha in the Bratz movie saying to Cloe, “you don’t have a dad! or a bank account” has stayed with me since the dayyy i first saw it💀😂 like that girl is not your friend, she had that too ready
Lindsey Lohan really is phenomenal would be a better way to put it, also I think the reason Sasha had that so ready would be because it was in the script that she had to read for the movie
@@googlesaurus3 i mean i said was because she no longer is a child…so that stands. and no shit she said it cuz it was in the script??? idk what the point of saying that is😂
i loved that kurtis reverted back to POC women to tell their stories of how whitewashing these bratz characters hurt POC women. an ally through and through
Life Size was one of my faves when I was little, and it was in my rotation of regular VHS tapes that I would watch. So so happy you liked it. I was so worried that you would rip it to shreds. Thanks for not doing that. :)
watching the bratz movie when it came out at 8 years old i was convinced it was a cinematic masterpiece. it might have flopped at the box office but they know their audience and hit the mark perfectly
I loved that you talked about the Born Sexy Yesterday trope, it's soooooooo weird, I take a lot of film classes and it's so prominent. If you look at visual cultural research, it gets even grosser lol
Fr like I knew the Born Sexy Yesterday trope was a thing but didn't know the name. That trope makes me sick, the sexualisation of infantilised women gives p3do vibes and it's so common aswell
NOT a deaf person myself, but I recently worked with someone who read lips for their primary form of communication and she could hold a conversation almost normally unless you weren’t looking directly at her (which occurs much more often than movies like to admit) or if you suddenly changed the conversation topic and she didn’t realize it. Very interesting experience, and she is literally one of the coolest people I’ve ever met. Girl has had a hell of a life lmao
The idea of a Deaf person being able to have a quote-un-quote normal conversation is offensive btw. Normality is dependent on each person and being Deaf doesn’t make you abnormal
I'm soooooo glad you reviewed Life Size. Huge nostalgia bomb for me right there. As soon as I heard the line from the little girl about wanting a toy with microchips I burst out laughing.
Thank you so much for talking about the "born sexy yesterday" phenomenon. I heard about it for the first time a few years ago and it completely destroyed so many sci-fi and fantasy stories for me.
Not me stopping the video right after the reaction to the Bratz movie, watched the Barbie movie 2 months later and coming back to the video only to discover that he didn't talk about the Barbie movie...
I'm soooo happy to see a review for Life Size. It's been dismissed forever but especially since the craze of the new Barbie movie, like it simply never existed. Obviously Barbie is an iconic movie, but I was getting so disappointed to see Life Size not being mentioned. And there it was! This is why you are the Mayor. No cult classic is unnoticed.
Fun fact: I watched the live action bratz movie on Netflix for Wii U in 2022 upon realizing that at the time it was still online and I found that hilarious
38:46 It reminds me of that episode of Wizards of Waverly Place where a mannequin came to life and Alex called him Manny Kin, when Justin wondered who he was. Then Justin's action figure Galactic Girl came to life. But while Manny Kin who was "born sexy" and had that trope of immediately falling for Alex, Galactic Girl falls for Manny Kin, and not Justin. It's weird knowing this is a trope, and remembering different shows/movies that had that trope played in it.

I think he explained the importance really well. I definitely think it could have been a really good addition to the story if it was done well.
@ville__ if ur content is so worth stealing how come you don't have more money and views?
it's real weird how the movie just.. pretends??? the deaf character isnt deaf. like the dude can read lips while looking AWAY FROM SOMEONES FACE. doesnt lip reading include... intently staring at someones lips???
my man is so upset that hes deaf that hes not noticing the fucking superpowers he got going on
The fact that Yasmine obviously has a singing double is my favorite thing in the world. Like they couldn’t even get a voice to sound like her?
@ville__ bro shut up

@ville__ you don't have any videos?
Also did you notice how when the Bratz were wearing their trench coats they were clearly wearing jewel necklaces and high heeled boots, but when they perform on stage they're wearing sneakers and different jewellery? Always bothered me as a kid.
this is so strange, i literally just saw @ville__ commenting similar things throughout @funkyfrogbait 's comment section. what is the goal? 🙁
"you don't have a dad or a bank account" WAS WILD 💀
I don't think I'm ready for the Barbie vs. Bratz series to end.
Yeah! I’m going to miss this series
me too :( now we just gotta wait for a new bratz movie to go up against Barbie 2023
I think it’s time to do barbie vs monster high
I loved the Bratz movie when I was a kid because I loved Bratz dolls and the Games I didn't know it scored sp bad. Then again, who was asking their target audience, kids to review it?

using life sized as a replacement for Barbie is phenomenal 😭
I squealed 😂 I love him for this
Kurtis getting annoyed at a movie bringing emotions out of him is so relatable 😭
Typical man
When Kurtis talked about the "born sexy yesterday" thing, it reminded me of the movie Poor Things, and I would really like to see his take on it.
absolutely
@dennisehernandez626 YOU'RE SO RIGHT
tbf poor things actively criticises the trope the whole point is that its fucked up
God, I fucking hated Poor Things, I’d love to hear his take on it

Is 13 going on 30 the same trope you

Same I've never noticed how that's kinda just made to appeal to men, I always actually like characters that are innocent like that and watching their character progression idk it's just relatable to me ig but I never noticed how they always end up w sum guy like.. ew 😭
I love how Kurtis thinks there's a realistic way to turn into a plastic doll
Transformation fetish community would agree
Wait there’s a Life Size 2? Is it with the same cast?
6:03 actually I know what Dino students are! Dino students are basically super seniors as gen z says lol. Just like 18-19 year olds that haven’t graduated because they failed.
dang, Danny *and* Kurtis in one day? truly is the holiday season
Omg I know right 🎉

Exactly
omg fr
its giving season
the brats movie is just ICONIC but the barbie movie is actually good😭
This is just proof that iconic =/= good
I've watched the bratz movie 3 times 💀
@ville__ just yapping
what content is there to steal??? empty space? @ville__
I just hate how they bite their lip in almost EVERY instance in the Bratz movie 😭😭😭😭
Honestly so proud of Kurtis for getting sponsored by THE Pokémon company. He’s really made it
jarvis johnson also got sponsored by them iirc
16:13 "You don't have a dad or a bank account!" is a terribly good comeback
Tyra giving Lindsay the “be quiet, Tiffany” speech killed meeee 😂

Ong had me confumbluated
I know… why?? He spent like one minute on the new Barbie movie. Boo! (Love you, Kurtis.)
I get why he didn’t though, it wouldn’t be fair bc the Barbie movie was like a very well made and proper real movie lol
I agree with him though, Life-Size was better than Barbie 🤷🏻♀️
He even put it in the thumbnail😭😭
The sequel we’ve all been waiting for
@azrk_ no tf not
@azrk_ I mean, literally begging for subs is pretty bold...
You mean the trilogy
You mean...sinquel (throwback to an old kurtis vid)
The moment I watched the Barbie movie I thought of Kurtis' video and was like "ok yep I NEED to see him make the Barbie vs Bratz Live Action video"
Honestly everytime I have a bad day I just watch a Kurtis Conner video and I can guarantee you this guy has not even once failed to make me laugh and forget about my problems for at least a few minutes
When she said ‘you don’t sound deaf’ I cringed so hard I gained my hearing back. Thank you kurtis truly an inspiration
kurtis, you made me wait 27 minutes thinking "hey i cant wait to hear kurtis conner talk about the new barbie movie" just for that.
LITERALLY
fr, why even title the barbie movie or even mention it at the start mentioning why it took him so long to review barbie just to review A TOTAL DIFFERENT MOVIE
also a first time watcher and i dont trust his videos now just clickbait. just another influencer.
WWell, that would be kinda boring wouldn't it? We;ve all seen the new movie. and its good. Kurtis is know for doing bad movies. Honestly i was expecting him to watch the new movie and have very little commentary. I was presently surprised, because now I get more content :)
@@mystickiwi2329 good for you? I genuinely just wanted a good commentary on the Barbie movie. Why clickbait it’s stupid. Like don’t waste people time. Time is value.
I was so pumped when you said you were reviewing Life-Size. This movie was everything to me when I was 6
Ok Kurtis this video was a banger and I laughed so much. Thank you
Yeah, he didn't think it was fair to compare Bratz to Barbie but it also wasn't fair to compare Life Size to the Bratz movie. Life Size was sooooo good and Bratz was just.....😮💨
i love love love Life-Size
REAL REAL
Yeah, I remember and loved watching that movie, too.💅🏼
Gosh...I had the same reaction as you in that post football game scene with the dad. When my dad died last year, he'd left a letter for me wherein he spoke about having regrets about focusing on his career so much in the 90s and early 2000s and not being around as much as he thought he should have. The feels, man
Kurtis and Danny making videos about toys coming to life in the same day is iconic

Monster high vs ever after high is an ANCIENT rivalry worthy of a commentary.

MH for sure tho
hate to say it but as someone who grew up on both EVERAFTER CLEARS its just so much better

I know the bratz movie isn't meant to be realistic but an mtv crew asking a group of high schoolers to go perform at a red carpet is wild
this movie is really good at showing grief and loss and losing someone who was becoming a parental figure. my dad passed when I was like 8 so movies like this are really nice:)
I can't explain how much I enjoyed that you genuinely liked life-size. It was definitely one of my faves growing up.

Also, Sasha in the Bratz movie saying to Cloe, “you don’t have a dad! or a bank account” has stayed with me since the dayyy i first saw it💀😂 like that girl is not your friend, she had that too ready
Lindsey Lohan really is phenomenal would be a better way to put it, also I think the reason Sasha had that so ready would be because it was in the script that she had to read for the movie

Fr like I knew the Born Sexy Yesterday trope was a thing but didn't know the name. That trope makes me sick, the sexualisation of infantilised women gives p3do vibes and it's so common aswell
I never heard of it named, but it is unbelievably disturbing… I have noticed it over the years…💀

I am a deaf person and reading lips is really exhausting
The hearing world should be accommodating for us not us accommodating for them
The idea of a Deaf person being able to have a quote-un-quote normal conversation is offensive btw. Normality is dependent on each person and being Deaf doesn’t make you abnormal
