Baritone Christopher Purves and AAM Principal Trumpet David Blackadder perform 'The Trumpet Shall Sound' from Handel's Messiah in this full-length film, accompanied by the Academy of Ancient Music, under Music Director Richard Egarr.
The libretto for Messiah was written by Charles Jennens, and this aria features words from 1 Corinthians (15.52-3). A glorious duet for baritone and trumpet, 'The Trumpet Shall Sound' comes at the beginning of Part III of Messiah.

The trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible,
and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on
incorruption, and this mortal must put
on immortality.

David Blackadder on the trumpet... magnificent!
Inspirational! I want this played at my funeral!
Write it in your Will, keep on reminding your family every time you hear it sung, also tell your local church to choir. This will be done at your wish
yeaaa
Don't hesitate to transfer me the money and I will organise the whole thing.
Absolutely divine. The fine voice just fits the masterpiece.
Wow! Powerful voice👍
so many missing out on this 😔
Magnificent Pure Handel
Wonderful!
Too often baritones and basses are muddy. I love the sound of his voice! It's actually bright!
This is true; it reminds me David Thomas
Magnificent
Handel's reaction when watching the word "Incorruptible" on the Libretto: "Damn you, Jennens!"
Fantastic Bravo
Gosh. Thank you. Perfectly done. This actually made me weep. A foretaste of Heaven and a promissory note. Rev Dev
I love this song!
I agree with david. But please can the funeral happen before I go so I can listen in!
This will be played at my wedding
The trumpet shall sound🎆🌺🕊
Wow!
Lovely chorus from one of my favourite pieces of music
And of course a great truth
Great version but shame about the cut. Would have liked to hear the 'For this corruptible' section too.
yes !
need this
Bravooo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Muita inspiração para compor Aleluia ! Divino
Dam that’s strong
That's great! Neskutecna nadhera
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
And of course a great truth
Excellent voice: less than appropriate upper-body attire. Has he just got out of bed? If so, all the more kudos for singing so well first thing in the morning.
The singer looks like a Roman soldier in one of Hadley oparas
Much easier in this key....but not as much fun to sing. In the original key it's like doing a high wire act as there is a BIG difference between an Eflat and an E in the baritone voice.
I think they must have just tuned to low pitch (A=415, not 440). So they didn't change the key.
Absolutely agree, and from experience. Much more fun in 440. 415 is boring and cheating imo
@@TenaciousP5k it’s the proper key in 415 so it’s not cheating. That’s where it would have been for Handel. You want to argue with him?
@@figaro410 hehe of course not. But i see no need to be sanctimonious either
En flot og kongelig koncert og så i arbejdstøj. Udmærket......
That t shirt should have a pack of chewing tobacco rolled up in one of the sleeves. Wish I could get by going to church in a getup like that!
is this the finished product? don't stop to work on the aria
OMG THANKS LORD FOR YOUR WONDERFUL WORKS THROUGH THIS MUSIC
I love his voice, but in this video, his voice sounds tight, not comfortable at all.
En T-shirt ????? Quelle honte. Et en plus collé à la partition
Magnificent
